Possible way to lessen Winged Twilight problems

So I often see people complain about the Winged Twilight's taking up space near the crafting table, it's large wings take up a sizable area. What if the Winged Twilight was replaced with a flame atronach? It just floats around instead of keeping large wings spread wide so takes up way less of the screen, it could easily serve as a ranged minion. Granted they wanted to have class keep a unique spell element with fire going to DK and sorcs using shock, but with necromancers using fire shock and frost seems like giving that up on sorcerer's too could help solve a problem without much fuss. What do people think? Good idea? Bad idea? I'm an idiot who shouldn't be allowed on the internet?

ZOS should code it around crafting areas that pets, even non-combats, don’t stand around crafting stations. Keep them a sizable distance away. There’s no reason as to why my non-combat pet ends up standing on top of the woodworking station, as funny as it is, or a Wardens combat bear’s head is poking out of a blacksmith station. If my pet has to run 1000 miles an hour to avoid a body of water or cliff, they should do the same at crafting areas.

Yes they can be annoying, but combat pets need to be both completely visible and ready for combat. I'd imagine ZOS is trying to avoid a situation where combat pets develop yet another invisibility exploit.

I've only had a pet obstruct my path a few times, which were all fixed by slightly repositioning my character. If that wouldn't have worked, I would have just politely asked the pet user if they could please move to one of the station's corners so their pet wasn't blocking access. And if that didn't work I would have bounced to either my own crafting corner or a guildmate's house.

I agree, but it's something I see people complain about way more than I'd expect but figured "Hey, simple thing ZoS can do about it, might as well shoot it out into the air, see what people think."

It's not just crafting areas; it's any interactable. Waiting for the prompt to appear in between flaps...
They should make it so they only appear when in combat.

It would still block access in occasions when access is blocked.

Regardless, in almost 6 years actively playing this game, spending more time here than at work in a given week, I have rarely been blocked by combat pets and when I have taking a step one direction or another has typically rectified the situation. While I understand that some may have come across a situation where they could not figure out which way to move I do not think reworking the pets for such a rare situation should be a priority for Zos.

It still wouldn't resolve what I consider a bigger problem with the pet, that is it follows too closely and frequently gets in the way of the player.

In towns if a pet, be it matriarch or bear, stops me from accessing a crafting table I just ask in chat if they would please move or put their pet away. While I try to remember to put my pet away when arriving in a town I know it wouldn't bother me for someone to do the same to me.

Why do people even like to complain so much about pets? That’s the real question self entitled players should ask themselves. You’re not playing a single player game. Are the crafting stations so *** crowded you can’t find a place to interact without the pet? Why the *** are people crafting in first person view if it’s blocking their screen? Why not find an area with less traffic? I never notice issues with matriarch, not to mention there are FAR more non-combat pets like those stupid dragons flapping around. I don’t even see people complaining in game about them. From what I can tell it isn’t even important enough for forum complainers to chat in game to say “desummon your damn matriarch”. Yeah, ESO forum whiners are on a whole new level.

Because you can't click through them. They can legit block things in the game. Like that warden who parked his bear on top of a lootable backpack and went AFK so nobody could loot from it.

      Honestly.

Bear pets block stuff more. You ever have the bear stand on the writ turn in? Literally stand ON it? They will also climb up on the banker desk. Flappy may be behind on a camera angle, but just turn your camera or zoom in to first person, and poof. Bear? Can't fix that.

The day ZOS give me a key command to dismiss my pets I’ll be happy to do this. I’d love the option to dismiss my pets.

Sadly ZOS haven’t been competent enough to do this. So dismissing pets is actually quite difficult and, amazingly enough, ZOS never explains to players how this might be done, so it’s unsurprising that no one does it.

One thing that would help a lot would be for ZOS to incorporate the add on PetDismiss into the base game for all platforms. Yes, you can dismiss your pet without it but that add on is so much less clunky that it is a no brainer to use. I can unsummon all pets with one mapped key - even while mounted or teleporting.

Another thing I'd love to see is dump the twilight in favor of an unobtrusive nyxad pixie healer. :)

I got so annoyed with a bear blocking the bank exit in Alinor on my first ever toon, and not being immediately able to figure out how to get past it, I paid to move to the Alinor Wayshrine (this was long before I had figured out about free inn rooms....) Then I realized when I made a warden that MY OWN bear was in my way while crafting. I couldn't figure out how to dismiss it. So I googled it. I did that for a while (several months) and then there was a thread which mentioned an addon: Pet Dismiss.

Thank the goddesses for it. For those on console, it seems like it's quite a bit more annoying for you than for those of us who can use addons.

No it is not. Zos removed dismiss pet hotkey when introduced secondary for pets so you now cannot dismiss with press of a button but instead you need to open char screen, scroll and right click or weapon swap and swap work only if pet skill is not assigned in secondary skill bar.
It is a hassle and no one wants to bother but it is not a players not being nice.

I would agree of there was a dismiss hotkey, but there is none.

They should work like a puffer fish. Be about the size of a mosquito when not in combat but once the owner goes to battle they swell up and do their thing.

I would like it if the flappy things would just land on the ground, fold their wings around them, and sit still when you're not moving or in combat. If I go in a bank and someone has one of those flapping about, I just leave. They give me such a headache when the wings are in my face.

Crafting tables and writ turn-in locations and quest-givers should have a "safe space" around them where pets are not allowed.

Dragging the skill off the bar and placing it back again in the same mouse movement. Yeah quite difficult. Rocket science level difficulty.

I agree that a dismiss button would be useful though.

Because it isn't the fault of the player.

Firstly, there isn't even a dismiss pet key anymore (without an addon) and secondly, why exactly were combat pets made to block everything, when non-combat pets and player chars weren't?

Players didn't design them that way.

I don't think pets should be automatically dismissed, anyway, but still.

Personally, I would much rather have a flame atronarch and similar as summonable than Daedra just because it seems you shouldn’t be able to so easily have them at your beck and call. It seems to me there would be a price to be paid or that you may not be the master whom they truly serve...

True and why (assuming you're not a brand new player, with no gold) not buy yourself a nice house, install some crafting stations and craft in, pet-free, comfort there, if it bothers you that much?

Pets don't even bother me, most of the time and yet, I have still put all basic crafting stations in 7 houses, so far.

Why? Because it's nice to craft in your own house!

But, no, instead of helping themselves, they hang around on here, whining incessantly about pets in public places and asking for "safe spaces". xD

"Safe spaces" from a pet that can't even attack your char, lol.

Combat pets should absolutely be clickable through, like everything else is (including player chars), but they're not asking for that, or a pet dismiss key; they're just having fun whining about other players, instead.

3 possible solutions, pick and implement one

1: Make it so you can click through the pets
2: Make the pets auto-dismissed near crafting stations
3: Make it so if your combat pets are out near a crafting station you take 1K oblivion damage per second, doubling every second until the problem is solved [this could also be used on people who don't fully loot overland chests]

Combat pets are solid to block things you are fighting with. That's probably why they didn't remove their collision when they removed it from non-combat pets.

They should probably make a Shift+Y command that dismisses all active pets and be done with it.
