Why is there a limit on how many transmute stones you can have a time?

If you could save them up, then you could avoid sitting on the game for 8 hours a day farming them next time they gork the meta. The limit exists to inconvenience adults with grown-up jobs.

But... I thought everybody hated the meta... so why are we worried about the chasing the meta? Or... are all those other threads wrong about the meta?

Or maybe... transmutation is just a secondary system to actually help people avoid grinding for gear as much (and yes, there will be changes to a game that's how they keep you playing) which is actually a good thing for your "adults with grown-up jobs" It was never meant for you to store 18 billion geodes among your mule characters, it was to be a method so that when you've ground for your gear you only have to transmute the last two pieces (not all of them).

Also, when has the meta ever changed in terms of traits on body pieces.

It's been Impen in PVP for ever. It's been Divines in PVE for ever... so are we really whining and crying over having to trait change our weapons (and maybe jewelry?)

(BTW... real adult, with a real job, that I regularly spend between 8-12 hours a day at 5 days a week)

I think, and others can correct me if I'm wrong, that its more a matter of the time difference between farming for correct trait gear and farming for the gear+transmute when the meta for gear changes.

Purely anecdotally, I need a lot less dungeon runs to get my gear when I don't have to worry about the trait because I can transmute it. While RNG is certainly going to vary, the last time I paid attention while getting gear for PVP, my luck was something like 5 runs to get 5 pieces (4 transmuted) vs 30 runs to get 5 pieces (1 transmuted).

Looking at that, I get why ZOS isn't super into transmute stone hoarding - using 200 stones let me cut my grinding drastically (in a DLC dungeon, to boot!) It was great QOL for me...but not so much for ZOS who would rather I played that DLC dungeon more than five times never to look back.

YMMV based on your RNG, of course. Like I said, that's pure anecdote that in my case, using lots of transmute stones cut my grinding by a ton when I wanted a new set.

You are still missing the point mate. Anyone who played a bit will have hundreds if not thousands transmutation crystals stashed in form of geodes. We can transmute whatever we want, some for next 5 years worth of content. Thats not whats this topic about. Issue is that we waste inventory space for currency. Clog all the chars with easy to aquire geodes, unable to convert them because of artificial crystal limit. It doesnt serve any in game purpose, it wont slow me down transmuting whatever i want, anytime i want. It just creates annoyance when half or more of invetory space is taken by geodes.

Make it work as every other currency - aquiring geode auto convert it to transmutation crystals, adds them up to unlimited currency tab, solved. Save time, save inventory space.

I was speaking specifically to tmbrinks' question about gear changes, i.e. that I suspect its not about changing the Divines/impen meta traits but rather changing the new meta gear to Divines/impen. Transmutation made that process of grinding for new meta gear quicker for me.

So if I seemed to miss your point, that's because I wasn't addressing your point at all with the quoted comment.

The purpose of ZOS creating inventory issues has already been discussed several times already: "make a problem, sell the solution". It sucks for players - I think we agree there - but its profitable for ZOS.

I being a bit sarcastic about the whole thing to be honest, since I believe they've found the happy medium with helping out with the transmute crystals.

As you said, IF YOU WANT, you can run the content 3-5 times, get all the pieces you want and transmute (even if all are bad trait, and hope 1 or 2 are the proper trait)

OR... you can run the content 30 times, get 4 or 5 of the pieces is the appropriate trait and maybe transmute the 1

OR... (in the old days) you run the content 100 times to then get that last piece in the appropriate trait. (Or, the 300+ runs of vMA I did to get a sharpened lightning staff back in the day)

ZoS introduced transmutation to make it so you don't have to run things 100 times, but you can choose to stop at the 30 times, or, if you want to deal with the inventory issues, you can do the PVP and store the geodes. (And yes, I have a character that has about 50 of the 50 geodes sitting in their inventory to transmute gear if I need to)

    It. Is. A. Choice.

Not a nefarious decision on ZoS to make you buy ESO+, it is a choice.

I'm glad they've introduced it, it helps with the grind, without completely eliminating it, because a game like this has a need for people to "re-run" some content so it stays fresh.

The suggestions that many have made, under the guise of QoL, are going to simply reduce the number of people playing the game for content, creating dead content. The QoL was the transmutation. But because some people hoard, they now have "inventory issues" and expect ZoS to accommodate them.
