There is a reciprocal relationship between player skill and approval of cast times. Typically bad players hate mechanics that raise the skill ceiling because it allows talented to have that much more of an advantage over them.

    Uhhhhhhhhhh

"Talented players love ulti cast times!" is certainly a take.

So I guess all these "skilled" players that hate cast times would be happy if Meteor and Soul Strike were made into instant burst damage like Incap, Leap, Onslaught and Dawnbreaker?

I would be happy a lot, always hated those ultimates. Now I hate even more ultimates. We should make more ultimates fun to use not the other way.
I'm done with this game because of ZOS pushing us into Vengeance, because they don't know how to fix Cyrodiil.

Bad change stubbornly pushed out despite the community saying it didn’t improve combat.

    well said.
that comment is coming from the best sorcerer on PC, so it carries alot of weight.
people keep saying the whole community hates cast times but thats a lie, its 50 / 50 but they want the developers to believe different.
some love cast times, it and some hate cast times.

Meteor does not have a cast time and soul strike is a channel, which is also different to some extent. Those ultimates have different mechanics than "instant" burst ultimates, and those mechanics come with their own advantages and disadvantages. But neither is relevant for this discussion.

Incap, Onslaught, and Dawnbreaker are not instant. They have cast times.

One of the morphs of Soul Strike should behave like Ballista so I can continue my attack throughout the duration.

Meteor is already BiS for many because of the improved accessibility to unblockable CC. It's stupidly easy (especially for Sorcerer) to setup a burst combo that the enemy can't do anything about.
Make it instant; don't make it instant - either way it's better than the ultimates my class has now.

Hahahahahahahahaha hoo boy I needed this laugh after a long day at work. Imagine thinking Emma even comes close to being on any "top player" lists on a dead game.

Hi there. According to comments and polls on this forum, it seems that vast majority of players doesn't like cast times on ultimates. After some time being on live, I'd like you to answer few questions:

    1. What are your thoughts on such solution? Do you use one or more of those ultimates?
    2. Is this "soultion" does its job? Is it easier for you to counter those ultimates?
    3. Do you have any ideas on how this could be done in alternative way?

    Let me start:
    1. It feels realy bad and very often leads to situations where I try to cast ultimate 3 or 4 times in high latency situations missing my windows to finish of my opponent.
    2. Actually when everything runs as it should It doesn't work for me, I get hit by those ults as often as I was. When the performance goes bad, I get hit less often but its not because of my reaction, but just because launching such ultimate having high ping is extremly difficult.
    3. Yes. Instead of cast time, make them instant but with according delay. I wouldn't slow us down, and still would allow for some reaction on the defenders side.

I like the cast times. They have helped cut down on those lame instant death burst combos which had turned PvP into a monotonous and incredibly stupid rat race to see who could stun/burst/kill first.

If this game has done anything in regards to PvP - it has made me appreciate just how vital cast times are to an interesting and enjoyable PvP experience. I always took the cast times on WoW as an example for granted. But then I played this game, and I found out just how bad PvP can be when those aren't around and damage is allowed to balloon to ridiculous proportions.

I'll never understand what people see in PvP systems that revolve around quickly killing someone with high burst damage before they can react or fight back. It's just so lame and un-fun - yet so many people seem to love it. Like I said, I'll never understand it.

Then play WoW? Cast time in ESO means one. You are at disadvantage. I'd prefer to have delayed damage like meteor to chain it into burst combo than being forced to cast ultimate that can be nullified in most cases by badluck. I still can land Soul Harvest on top players, not to mention some scrubs, but it's so annoying when skill doesn't fire off at all because of lag, because I have block weaved, because I had to roll dodge etc. etc. Game teach us to play dynamically all the time, bit then boom, you have skill that forces you to stand still, do nothing except of waiting for it to fire. It's counterintuitive. Make all ultimates cast time or none.
