Or maybe I've just had incredibly bad luck, but it didn't use to be as hard to find it before as it is now. ✭Yes they drop anywhere in Craglon now.Yup, I got a Potent Nirncrux and a Fortified Nirncrux from the same node on the hill of the observatory at Belkarth just the other day. The node before it was a double Kuta, too. It was the best crafting-node RNG I have had in years. Lol.

To be fair, I haven't been to Crag for too long except to just run around looking for mats, and the nodes are pretty few and far between, but I've only gotten one each Nirncrux, both from clothing nodes, and both in the south.1 -

They actually doubled the drop rate when making the change, @vestahls ... so it appears you’re just having bad luck.
But, when you double a minuscule drop rate, it only makes it double small.

That’s always been the case, @CaffeinatedMayhem.
Since Craglorn debuted, you could get either potent or fortified from all equipment crafting nodes (ore, cloth, wood) and Craglorn equipment crafting survey nodes.
There are (were) many other urban myths out there about nirncrux ... such as finding them on alchemy nodes (which is not true).

Both types of Nirncrux seem to be attracted to a certain type of Char, with relevant skills, CPs and passives, all in the right places. It is as if, the more one studies to obtains knowledge in every Trade, the higher the rewards when harvesting.
My Master Crafter seems to just just look at a node and all kinds of goodies leap into her Craft Bag (including Nirncrux) when passing through Craglorn on other business.
We never go to Craglorn - or any other location for that matter - to purposefully farm nodes but at any one time, she has around 100 of each type of Nirn in her bag for personal use and for gifting to friends or deserving others. We like to be self-sufficient.
I am almost 100% sure, that we have obtained Nirncrux from a water node. Does anyone know for sure whether that can happen?

I have found it is a horrible place to look for mats. I get nirn stuff, but VERY RARELY, probably less than 12 of each over my year of playing fairly intensely.
I hate a few survey locations there too.PC
