Well it's also difficult to blame someone who has communicated politely that they are indeed investigating problems *some* people are having logging in to PC-EU.

This one disagrees. Expectations were most understandably high due to ZOS's past black friday sales, coupled with an equally understandable sense of entitlement on the part of the player base due to the massive disappointment of the unfulfilled promises of last year regarding performance during events.
In other words, ZOS got egg on face, disappointed the player base severely with 2 cancelled events and repeatedly re-releasing the same buggy content after claiming it was fixed (which is still going on) - not to mention the fiasco that has been the EU server over the past few months (sorry this one forgot to mention this), and then completely dropped the ball with the worst black friday sale in the history of the game (at least that this one has witnessed).
The purpose of sales is to increase revenue at the expense of inventory. The inventory ZOS sells is infinite and with minimal overhead, so a sale that would have topped all previous sales would have cost ZOS little while gaining them much, both in terms of revenue, and in renewed goodwill from the players.
Instead, ZOS has earned the incredulous disregard of players who were looking forward to spending their money and instead are both disappointed and disgusted. Can't help but feel like this is something of an insult, to be honest.
Any other business who had dropped the ball as ZOS had would be offering whatever they could to rebuild goodwill with their customers. To not do so implies that the business does not care about its customers.

Imho they simple didn't want to give any top tier items cheaper, just simple greedy move.
They could make a s***load of money if they did discounts on houses or something like that, but they just said nope, ain't gonna happen, full price suckers.8 -

✭Not to mentioned that BT merchandise store in general is also not affected by BF although they are US company, so it was kinda expected that they could put something on discount to honor that consumerist madness lol.

Past Black Friday sale. If you go back to 2016 and 2017 you'll find that those sales very much mirrored this one more closely. In fact 2018 was by far the crazier of all four but it was clearly very welcome to the community.
I prefer 2018 over any of the other years though, this sale is relatively lackluster and I can safely say that provided nothing currently standing changes I won't be purchasing anything this year.3 -

2016 and 2015 had crown pack discounts - substantial ones. 2017 didn't but it did have a free mount.

Maybe ZOS didn’t have a big Black Friday sale because in the midst of the debacle the past few months have been they felt this might be seen as a further flippant promotion of crown store, which people are always complaining about when they promote while other issues are occurring.
Might be one of those damned if you do damned if you don’t situations. Food for thought.9 -

Yeah because having a crappy sale instead is a much better alternative. Any company that packages a mount with a bunch of trash you throw in your bank and calls it an "8,100 crown value" does not care about backlash.23 -

I naively accepted the "crown store" at inception.
I spent 200$ USD for our guild hall.
But if you look at the last, say, 3 years at BF sales, they keep getting smaller and less. Kinda like other aspects.
I still love ESO, and am SO glad it hasn't fallen into the Fallout76 trench!!
But still worried as I see so much of this in ZoS in the last few years....

I wouldn’t count on it. Seriously. That way you won’t be disappointed but only perhaps pleasantly surprised. Alas, I had gotten my hopes up for this one based on last year’s sale and maybe hints by others that this home or that might be available
I hadn’t bought Crowns in advance and from what I’ve read in many other posts I’m not the only one. I was anticipating purchasing Crowns at full price to buy any of several furnishing packs and costumes that I’ve been wanting, and Tel Galen, if it made a comeback. But there is nothing in this sale that I want and so no reason for me to buy more Crowns.

✭✭✭✭ZOS’s Black Friday policy is fully vindicated by the numbers of long term players who have specifically not spent money due to “waiting for great Black Friday” deals. That’s not a situation ZOS wants. They want you to spend money throughout the year, knowing you’re not going to feel kneecapped because your recent 10k purchase is suddenly sold for a pittance.
Given they have no inventory cost (they don’t have to spend anything storing unbought stock), there’s no pressure on them to sell or to reduce the arbitrary costs they have assigned to various digital products (eg houses at 14,000 crowns).
They’re having a ‘Bleak Fredas ‘ sale because players expect it, not because they are lovely and they like you, and they’re not looking to challenge any of their normal practices, cannibalise any future sales or *** off players who’ve paid “full price”. As someone else said, if you’ve bought crowns, they already have your money, they aren’t going to do another dance for it. Certainly not when they’re dishing out the sarcasm of “8,100 crowns value”.
That said, the banker and merchant are both the most insanely expensive and stupidly useful things in the game. 20% off them is still 20% off.7 -

✭I was briefly excited when I saw it was Black Friday. I missed last year's horse because I was 7 crowns short or something the like. Thought I'd spend some crowns for it but then, no black striped horse.
Also though about buying some discount crates but after whaling on this season and getting literally NO mount of any kind, not going to bother.
Then saw the assistants were on sale. But 4k for something I essentially already have is a nope.3
