What would you like to see as a major new system for ESO?

If we look at the past 5 years of ESO, many new systems were released that pushed ESO to be better than it was before, a more complete package. The past year has clearly been a year of change and reinforcing the base game for ZOS, but because of this, we have seen very little in terms of mixing up how the game is played. While I mostly agree with the direction ZOS is taking this year because these changes needed to be done for the future health of the game..

The future doesn’t look entirely interesting without any new system on the horizon and the DLCs lacking more than they have in the past. Dragonhold, the most recent zone DLC has no Arena or mini-trial, typically the time we would see Ability-Altering Weapons.

Notable Improvements in order of release (IMO):
  • Craglorn: End game overland zone (dead)
  • Imperial City DLC 1: Only DLC focused on pvp (now free for all)
  • Orsinium DLC 2: Maelstrom Arena (only solo End Game content to date)
  • Justice System + Champion Points introduced with Vet Ranks (Update 6)
  • Thieves Guild DLC 3: New zone, new skill line w/ special Thieving quests, Trial MOL
  • Dark Brotherhood DLC 4: New zone, new skill line w/ special Dark Brotherhood quests, Champion Points replace Vet Ranks
  • One Tamriel: Dueling introduced, Weapon Ultimates, level scaling and alliance overworld open for all. (Update 12)
  • Homestead: Housing (Update 13)
  • Morrowind Chapter: New class + Battlegrounds (now free for all)
  • Outfit System: Can use any styles learned account wide as a costume with dyable parts (Update 17)
  • Summerset Chapter: New active ability skill line + jewelry crafting.
  • Elsweyr Chapter: New class + Dragons.
  • Dragonhold: Nothing. More zone overland content.

I highlighted DLC 1-4 because they brought in many major improvements, we don’t currently expect from our DLC. Following the introduction of Chapter releases, we started to expect a mini trial OR an arena from Zone DLC. This year, Dragonhold didn’t bring any of these new features that we’ve come to expect making it the most disappointing DLC for many of the player base.

So I made a poll for some of the most notable improvements I've seen people request. Since "Other" would be too broad and get mostly selected as everyone has a unique opinion, choose 1 of the broader selection options and feel free to explain what you would want to see within that system. Please think about what would sell you on playing ESO beyond 2020 or what would make you purchase the newest chapter. What would get you excited for ESO's future? How can ZOS inovate and make ESO bigger and better than it was before. I understand people get excited for more Trials, Zone exploration, Dungeons, Story quests, stability and bug fixes, etc. Those are not new systems, there things we have come to expect.

    Honestly, for me, it's hard to pick. A new weapon skill line is probably my 2nd pick along side improvements to our existing combat. I'd love to see more weapon types added, but realistically speaking, eso is 5 years old with 100's of different motif styles, they would have to play catch up and create unique motifs. I do not see it happening unless it's simple as in it uses 1h weapons + a coloured element in the other hand, then ZOS doesn't need to make any new styles.

    That being said, spell crafting looks the most interesting. Dating back to their initial vision, they wanted players to explore the world and seek dungeons where you can find and unlock parts to the spells, most likely combining them to make new ones.

    After the recent audits and standardizations, this seems like the most likely next step for eso. As long as they introduce it with a strict ruleset alongside some class indenity reinforcements, eg Sorcerers do more damage with shock, Warden's Frost, only 1 single target dot craftable, 1 aoe dot, 1 defensive buff, 1 support aoe ability, etc. It could definitely be possible and I would happily explore the existing world of ESO to find these "Words of Power" to test and make new abilities.

    Spellsword weapons would be very welcome, but most requested and needed improvement is stability and bug fixes. Cant enjoy any new content if game constantly works at unenjoyable level of performance.

    An engineering line could provide some interesting alternatives both in and out of combat, while omitting some of the features that would make spellcrafting really hard to balance.

    ESO uses the Skyrim skill system which was a boring and unimaginative system. Actually i think skyrim may have been the most boring and bland of all the TES games. Its probably why it was the one that i played the least. I beat it and never spent another hour in it.

    This entire skill system is crap and needs to be thrown in the trash. i like 1T in general but it has major drawbacks where it doesnt really feel like you get any more powerful. Honestly a good tree system with good branches has always been the best system. Devs got lazy and started giving us these dumbed down preschool systems because they are easier to balance and maintain i guess.Or maybe the attract more players who dont have two brain cells to rub together to make a multiple choice decision. Who knows.

    Everything in ESO feels samey samey when it comes to combat skills, gear skills, guild skills, and class skills. To do end game content, they have made it so basically only 1 or two builds per class are considered viable and thats in quarters they didnt screw up a class with a rebalance.

    As i said i like the 1T for zone use and doing stuff with others, but the solution to everyone being the same level also means we are all identical twins in different clothes and it makes "leveling" and combat pretty boring. There is a better solution. the TES style of gameplay is fine for solo games, but in MMOs, its like running on a treadmill.

    I would love an engineering spec. Sacrifice mobility for power. Sure you have to keep in range of the automatons but they pack a punch! I’m thinking of skills like standards and totems, ground based aoes. Would be nice to put down a off brand Dk standard or something, or if the ballista morph was more like a portable turret.... yes I’m getting nostalgic for TF2.

    They need to fix the current game before they remotely add anything new. You can add everything on the list, and I still can't be bothered to play it, because the basic structure is broken. There's bugs everywhere. Trials are borderline unplayable. I've heard PVP is a joke entirely now. Blue screens from literally just standing there. Someone just blue screened by the time you read this. It's pretty bad.

    I think we need more morphs and more abilities in general.

    Between stam/mag/healer/tank/PvP/PvE builds, I don't see why we can't have three morphs for certain abilities, more freedom to developers, more freedom to players, just everybody wins.

    Edit: Oh hey and while at it I think its really time for more weapons already. There needs to be a melee magicka weapon, and Also another ranged stam weapon, like maybe crossbows. As of right now ranged stam and melee magicka doesn't have enough weapons, but they should.

    There is a lot of stuff I would like to see, but none of this is relevant until we have stable servers that can handle events. Not to mention lag that makes the game almost unplayable & unenjoyable. Previously it was only the case of some long largescale battles in Cyro PvP. Now, it slowly enters to pve dungeons and even overland...

    For free content and overhauls.
    1. Homestead 2.0 Guild Hall's, an increase in decoration amount for free people and subscribers, and of course new homes that are bought in game with money. Guild Hall should have some neat stuff like a mini real life market area for auction stuff.
    2. A few mini games or sports added to base game. Possibly added with guild halls and mini leagues. I guess GWENT is a good idea but simple black jack or other stuff would suffice and add life to the game though I hope they would go deeper.
    3. Stealth 2.0 overhaul to add more options to distract enemies.
    4. Argonian Rework. Even with their current roles as tanks and healers they are really weak. I want to see them get some sort of dps option as well. If they are going to be jack of all trade race like now then they should get a small dps bonus. Hopefully to spears when they come out.
    5. An increase to the character limit in the future. Its okay right now but if they keep adding classes eventually I am going to run out of room to play and make unique characters.

    Paid Content in order.
    1. New weapons. Melee magic first then spears are priority.
    2. New Guilds added to old zones. So Morag Tong added to Morrowind in some way. These guilds should be a mix of pve/pvp stuff and overland bonuses and neat things like how Thief/Assassin work.
    3. New classes.

    I'd love an MMR system built into the vet/dlc dungeon finder so dpses doing 2k, dpses who won't spend 4 gold to eat food, tanks who won't/cannot block, use shields, or get out of the red ever, don't keep stopping ppl who have extensive clears and titles from completing lol. I can honestly carry one or two in a dungeon, I can't carry 3, not on a healer.

    Maybe a better system to train and grow a player. I spend a LOT of game hours trying to help, trying to teach, and generally carrying lol. I'm cool with helping, but eso is failing the tests here with a gigantic F. The middle of vet DoM is not the time and place for a tank to learn how to block and dodgeroll or for a dps to learn they should have food on and working armor.
    Longtimer since beta, the usual. 26 CP toons. ~1700cp on main account, 1000cp on 2nd account. Endgame-ish lol. Most Vets / some HM's cleared.

    I’d like to see a system that allowed me to easily change all of a character’s skills, gear, CP and attributes. That way I could have a viable PvP build for my main character, or a functioning solo quest build for my tanks and healers.

    I’d like gear collections, so that instead of being hampered by bag space, you were actively encouraged to collect every piece of every gear set, which could then be stored and displayed in your house.

    Those seem to me to be actual improvements to the game, not fantastical additions to a system that its owners don’t understand and can’t even begin to manage.

    ZOS will big up ‘open hand’ combat as it will allow them to make the ‘weapon dragging’ bug into a feature.

    Update to IC to bring more people in (really would not be hard at all)

    General common sense upgrades to PVP:
    1. Base leaderboards on skill and performance / time, rather than skill and performance * time - single-handedly the dumbest system in game.
    2. Reduce catering to weaker players - they have enough now.
    3. etc;


    On top of that, QOL fixes and upgrades:
    1. Quick loadout tab
    2. Preset options for CP etc
    3. Basically, find the most used addons on PC and recreate them in game.

    Dragonhold is merely a companion DLC to Elsweyr, so there should be no surprise it doesn't come with any goodies. Much like Murkmire didn't come with special goodies.

    Also, you -could- count a entire new outfit you can gain through questing as goodie... an mechanic I like very much, and would love to se refitted to a lot of the old areas as well someday! Give the people more reasons to play through older questings, give them more stuff to chase... etc.

    ESO is already very combat oriented. It would be better to add other activities instead of just heaping more combat related stuff into the mix.

    I think a Poke Mon style pet battling system or a Magic the Gathering style card game within ESO would be a nice way to expand on the game.

    I mean, yeah, it was something besides the overland content... but so are the dragons in southern elsweyr. And just like we have had stuff like Blackrose before, we had dragons before in northern elsweyr... so...

    Although, there WAS one new goodie with Murkmire.

    Well, and the vine-grappling, which we have again with grappling bow in dragonhold, but that's nowhere new a concept I'd say...
