is Automaton Set dead?

I am looking to clean out my inventory... an boy automaton compared to these new sets just looks like a useless set...
I havent really invested much into them so wiping them won't hurt me too bad...

Now before I do that why would I keep Automaton instead of something like Truth??

I need to clean out inventory because the next chapter will obviously bring even MORE items :- }...

Me playing eso...

20% standing around in a pvp keep, 20% standing around in a queue, 10% doing something in pvp or pve. 50% inventory management....

You play the meta, I organize space for it...

A catch 22 if you will...

I wanted to just junk most of my sets and get the materials..

Then the game told me needed space for the materials from the sets!

They may improve it, there is purportedly a wide ranging set audit underway. A number of older sets have been rendered mostly obsolete by newer sets, but retain some usefulness depending on your build's requirements.

As for Truth vs Automaton, if you need medium body pieces, you must pick Automaton, other than that, assuming you are using Dizzying Swing, not much use for Automaton.

As for New Moon vs Automaton, the only reason to still use Automaton is if you find the cost increase unbearable. This also goes for Sword Singer, Sword Dancer, Ysgramor's, etc.

For PVE it's better than hundings and briarheart for a stam sorc or stamplar.

It does go up, it's just invisible on the character sheet.

Does it allow me to use the buffed damage to heal myself like automaton and hundings rage through vigor?

Also, if you use Onslaught or Corrosive, you may get slightly more damage out of Automaton / Sword Singer / Sword Dancer during the Ultimate's uptime, since the Penetration of New Moon is useless during that time, depending on whether your skills' co-efficients are such that the 1 line of Stam from the older sets provides greater damage than the additional 81 Weapon Damage from New Moon.

Overall however, unless you are playing in such a way that you do little attacking outside of Onslaught / Corrosive uptime, I would take the 1 line of Penetration and 81 additional Weapon Damage over the 1 line of Stam.

No because it specifically states "Increases the Weapon Damage of your Physical Attacks by [X]"

Essentially it's a front-bar set, allowing you to run something like Caustic Arrow or Spectral Blades on your back bar.

Automaton’s weapon damage does not affect Vigor, since it only applies to Physical damage skills. At least that’s what I found in previous testing, some time ago.

It needs a buff, that's all there is to it. Almost all of the "specific damage type" sets need a buff.

If it's golded, definitely hang on to it. All in your desired trait, maybe hang on to it. If it's neither of those things, trash it.

I've always thrown around the idea that sets like Auto/Spider Cultist/Sword-Swinger would work a lot better if they offered a cost reduction bonus alongside the Weapon/Spell Damage buff.

So basically something like Sword-Swinger would be
Increases the Weapon Damage of your Two-Handed abilities by [x] and reduces the cost of Two-Handed abilities by [y]
(and yes, this would also apply to Ultimate cost)

It’s great on StamSorc with VO for trash. I would at least keep the weapons. The armor is easy enough to get.

Have found the rule of thumb of keeping and storing only well-traited weapons and purple jewelry of "probably won't use" dungeon sets, deconning everything else, works well for saving space. Especially sets like automaton and others from the easy soloable low dungeons.

To the topic, since overland sets like spriggans and briarheart can replace automaton in many basic builds, wouldn't be too worried about keeping it awaiting buffs. If they do buff lots of sets, those buffs will be relatively small, and I really doubt the sets available from the lowbie dungeons will get much buffing at all, harder to get sets will likely be first in line for buffs.

If you gold it... It will be nerfed.
If you deconstruct it... It will be buffed.
If you don't have it... It will become Meta.
If you do have it... It will be nerfed Twice.

I would keep weapons and trash the rest.**

Jewelry, body pieces are easy to get, but if you ever specifically need a sword or battleaxe or bow, it's much more likely to never drop. Point in case: Burning Spellweave Inferno Staff....

Edit: **If you don't want the set, I mean. I still use it on my Stamden for ganking

Higher damage than Hunding's, but only on a single damage type (physical).

Slightly lower damage than Briar, but it's always active, instead of on a proc.

That would make sense for the skill line sets (Spider Cultist/Sword-Singer/Light Speaker), in fact one of the skill line sets, Vampire Lord, does include a 6% cost discount, but would be significantly more potent on the damage type sets (Automaton/War Maiden/Silks of the Sun/Netch's Touch/Ysgramor's Birthright... okay, maybe not that one...) as it would boost a wide array of skills.

For example, Silks of the Sun would apply its discount to the destro staff, but would also discount a lot of DK abilities.

This is made more confusing because Stam bundles two of their +400s into a single set with Swamp Raider.

So, on the specific skill line sets, it could work, but for the +400 to Damage Type sets, not so much.

Automaton is still a viable set IMO. It may not be absolute BiS, depending, but it's right up there. As others have said, if you not sure, hang on to the weapons, the armor is always easier to get. (this is a good rule of thumb when not sure in all cases actually)

Only real downside with Automaton farming is that daggers and axes are a pain in the *** to obtain.

    Good point.

Of course, all of these types of sets are still presently a decent complement to New Moon if you have good cause to use 2 Weapon Sets and find any of the backbar-able alternatives (7th, BSW, etc) bothersome to use, and if you have a healer in your group.

Downside there is just the cost increase for NMA. It's a good set, but you need solid sustain before you want to chase it.

Generally speaking, stacking NMA and another damage set is overkill. At that point, you're probably going to want sustain, or crit on the other set.

Amusingly, if you're running it, Automaton is a good candidate to break for a vMA bow, because the abilities on that bar are unlikely to benefit from Automaton.
