Why should they need to, it should just work seamlessly when the next console is out surely? Unless of course it won’t work for the ps5 /Xbox two

No one should have to lose progress or feel pigeon held to one brand because of ZOS and ESO.
While it is understandably complicated and I get why it was a one time thing when it dropped on console originally they have a year to work their stuff out and with more and more games adding the feature (destiny 2 for example, which is FREE to play) there is really no excuse why it can't be done.

Ypu should probably settle down. This is entirely a non issue.
The console architecture starting from this current gen is more akin to a pc box than any sort of unique proprietary internally manufactured hardware. Why is this relavant? Because the fact of the matter is you are basically using a prebuilt compact pc running a custom operating system + ui & storefront designed by sony/ms and specifically engineered to function and communicate directly to their facilitated network services. Why does THIS matter? Because unlike previous generations of console launches, we have officially entered a space where it is simply a matter of having games run at higher fidelity while still being made to run on various consoles of varying hardware power. The unique notion of "backwards compatibility" is not going to be a thing anymore outside of the instances where certain games just cant run at the minimum standards of performance on older consoles.
There will be no unique leap or transfer happening to eso with the introduction of the new consoles. It is quite literally no different than when the mid refreshes were released ie ps4 pro & x1x. The ps5 is going to be a beefier pre built pc box with a new revision of sonys user interface and new software features. The generational leaps of yesterday are no longer a wholly unique transition that developers need to learn how to code for and develope online systems for their games with completley new server infrastructures.
If zos decides to release eso on the ps5 or next xbox, it will be an absolute non event that will result in consoles players simply being able to enjoy the game at a closer high fidelity that their PC player peers have been able to enjoy for the last few years nothing more.
You're leasing everything from ZOS, including your account and all assets within. It's all a sunk cost with zero real monetary valuation. $0.
Not really the point, is it?
The OP just wants to be able to transfer the stuff, he has paid to access, over to another platform, if necessary.
He's not asking for a refund, or anything.

I feel I've conveyed my point poorly, they need to add account transfer between consoles, as in PS and XBOX. I'm not screeching about whether it will be backwards compatible or not.
