Friends list chat option needed (like guild chat, but to those on friends list)

Could we please get a friends list zone chat option? Kinda like guild chat, but the messages would show for those on our friends list. That way we could spam all our friends at once when trying to find people to help with a dungeon or getting a small PvP group going.

How about a friends list chat option please ZOS?

The only problem I see with this idea is people will have different friends to you, so not sure how that would work as a group chat.

Yep. People have different guilds too when in the same group together, so having different friends lists for each person should cause any kind of issue. I think coding for a friends group chat option would be equally straight forward and function the same as guild chat, just with different recipients.

I don't think your understanding what I mean, let's say me and you are friends, and we are using friends chat, you message me in friends chat and say hey is anyone up for a vet dlc run?

Sure I could reply in friends chat and say sure sounds good, count me in.

But now one of my friends who is not on your friends list would reply to the message with, what sounds good?

I would than have to explain to them what I was asked.

It would get very confusing very fast for friends that are not mutually connected.

...and then you could reply to that friend "we are about to run "X", want to join?"

This is actually the situation I think would benefit everyone by helping friends find other friends that are helpful.

But it wouldn't be that straight forward as there would be lots of topic's happening at the same time.

There would be so many missing replies, things would get incredibly confusing very fast.

The idea is nice and all but sadly it's flawed.

Joe: Hey Jim want to go kill some yellow?
Jim (Joe's friend): Yeah I hate yellow!
    Freddie (Jim's friend): Why?
    Jason (Freddie's friend): Why what?
Gordon (Jason's friend): Why what what?
Blake (Gordon's friend): Why what what what?
    Walter (Blake's friend): Turtles.

It would be a disaster. This is worse than your ideas to nerf Nightblades.

Ya, it's always easy to spot the people who can't play without cloak.

The single biggest, best improvement ZOS could make to chat would be to make chat customisation (colours, tabs etc) account wide by default.

It’s an utter pain to have to reformat my ‘social’ chat for each character, just to ensure that guild 1 is one colour and guild 2 is another.

It makes zero sense and a lot of work for chat customisation to be character specific (although if you want to have it as an option be my guest). Having it as the default is just f-muppetry at its finest.

If you're on PC there are various addons which will copy your chat settings to all characters (including newly created ones). I'm still using pchat, which some people say isn't working properly any more but all the functions I use are fine. There are others too, plus ones which will copy keybindings and other options.

This is a very good point. While I agree with OP it would be great the database side for powering the chat would be a headache and probably a load on the servers.

What would be easier to program and less of a load on the servers is player created chat groups where someone could type /cjoin chatroomname and be able to participate in it at will. No one would control the rooms. However, it still may be more load on the servers than we want at this time since that is already an issue.

I think a better solution would be a way to broadcast 1 message to all your friends, then they reply via whisper. That serves the same purpose of letting players tell all their friends the same thing at the same time but without the problem of how to handle replies when everyone has a different friends list.

An replie box could help here to so friends message chat and friends replie chat sounds good

Yes. This. I want this SO BAD.
Being able to post a message/status that gets broadcasted through chat to all your friends would be excellent. And then also being able to see the messages on the friends list UI.

Just like that other very popular MMO that does this already...

Yep, that works better than my idea, and gets the same thing accomplished. Thank you.
