Inventory hell - not coming back, ever (?)

TL/DR: inventory hell kills the fun (at least for me)! :s

This week I decided to give ESO another try after several months...
But a maxed inventory (bank + storage furniture, backpack + riding lessons on 10/10 chars) that's almost full, or even above max (my bank, I had eso+ in the past), made ESO straight out unplayable for me!

I checked AlcastHQ for the "flavor of the month" Sets, and spent some hours deconstructing/selling a lot of things. But it's still a total mess, and I finally lost hope and gave up.

ESO has too many things to collect (gear, consumables, crafting materials/ingredients, ...), but offers no help to effectively manage all that stuff.
AddOns might help, but I'm on PS4.
ESO+ might help, but I didn't want to spend money right away.

Maybe they'll come around one day and offer tools, bigger space, a free crafting bag, or some other means to make it less of a nightmare, or even enjoyable to collect (and keep!) all these things.
Or maybe I'll come around one day and just scrap everything, and deconstruct, sell or destroy all my shiny things and start over. :'(

This is clearly the part where I say, “Bye and can I have all your stuff?”

Although it’s not like my inventory management is any better.

oh, wait, I'd have to log in and interact with my inventory to do that? HELL, NO! :p

You can buy storage chests now. Those can be a big help when storing extra gear sets you may want to try later.

But I can't disagree with you. This game does not give you enough inventory space to store all the gear, consumables, materials/ingredients you'll likely want to hold onto. You either need to subscribe, make some alternate characters to be your "mules" or hope you end up in a dead guild where you have bank access. Otherwise you're going to have to throw away a lot of stuff you probably don't want to.

Inventory slots were "OK"ish back then, but ZOS added more and more stuff over the years, while not really increasing inventory slots - driving the game into an "unplayable" state when not subscribed to ESO+. But then they need a constant flow of money, so in a way I can understand the brutal limitation of non-ESO+. For an occasional player, non-Plus should still be fine, for hoarders, it's obviously unplayable.

already did.. bought all storage chests, and made 10/10 chars (won't buy any more slots) and maxed all backpacks and riding lessons..

    didn't check, but I don't think so..

that obviously kills a lot of fun... no one wants to throw away things that were earned and/or could still be of use.

The storage chests ought to give you enough space to store a fair amount of gear.

I'm able to store 4 different builds in mine (2 healing sets, 2 dps sets, 2 tank sets, 2 pvp sets) and all my monster helmets in mine and still have two large chest left over to keep and store experimental extra gear in.

When it comes to storing your consumables and materials - my advice would be to get rid all your lower level materials. Keep only the stuff that's on par with your crafting levels. This isn't a perfect solution (and you're going to still have issues) but it does help (or at least it did me).

I made the mistake to subscribe one day, and it was good while it lasted. But my inventory grew and grew, and I didn't have to worry about crafting materials.. now I can't even give ESO another try without going through hours upon hours of inventory management hell. Or at least I don't want to, because I'd have to leave all the shiny things behind....

But it's a hell to get things sorted out when you can only swap few items at a time, because all your inventories are almost full. It's a struggle to even deconstruct things ("you don't have enough space in your inventory" - great!). And you don't want to log in and out back and forth through all your characters all the time *sigh*.

9 psn accounts? tbh I really thought about doing just that, but I would have to make as many extra e-mail adresses first.. and now it's starting to be too much trouble. Still, I keep it in mind..

with all that new "chapters" we get and more inventory hassle, was it suppose we get 10-12 new slots per chapters? we get new crafting materials/traits, and those currencies taken slots away.

i created new alt, but he get fill up too fast and researching take longer.
then decided to dump pre-patch jewelries that doesnt allow to get decon, and dump all the green and blue since it is too slow with grains and build up stacks of plates. i wont upgrading any jewelries, going thru painfully to collect purple items.

no wonder why players are dumping jewel writs since we cant process without plates/ingots we need. too slow and see why players are so fed up.
we are here for fun, not frustrations handling too fast inventory refills. there is need for better way to process.

The game makes a big and obvious point of inconveniencing "freeloaders" who try to stay away from ESO+. Personally, I don't mind, because I play more than enough to motivate a subscription.

A few friends who play a lot less often than I do, and who don't have ESO+ most of the time, are using a shared guild bank to drop off anything that fits in my craft bag. That makes inventory management a lot less inconvenient for them, at the small expense of me having to withdraw materials from the guild bank now and then to keep it from bursting. The guild consists of five active players and a dozen others who have not logged in for over a year. None of the offliners have bank withdrawal access any more, to prevent random returning players from raiding the bank.

Yes, it's a workaround, not a solution. Not having ESO+ is awfully inconvenient, but that is the whole point.

If you already have a gmail account, you can use that to create aliases. There is no extra set-up involved; just start using it.

A gmail alias looks like: 'gmailusername'+'word'@gmail.com
    (without quote marks)

E.g.: 'bobby' is the gmail username. bobby+eso2@gmail.com

Use the + sign between your base gmail username and whatever word you choose to differentiate that alias.

    Gear, mostly...
CLASS x ROLE makes a lot of sets. Of course some are no longer BIS, but upgraded to gold. And a lot of jewellery from trials, that I wouldn't be able to retrieve, once destroyed/sold, unless I had enough fun and time to participate in trial groups again.

Make a spreadsheet, work out what you have where, and then honestly look through it and get rid of any duplicates or anything that you could easily get again.

Have ESO+,17 characters, all chests and way too much stuff. Actually going through what i have, and seeing what I actually NEED was helpful & cleared a lot of space. (4 sunderflame arms? Why?)

But you need to be ruthless.

(And also admit you might have a hoarding problem 😆)

@psxfloh Main problem here, regardless if you sub or not, is that you want to store a lot of stuff or even everything you come across. And that is the real nightmare management: and the more chars you have, the bigger the problem becomes.

Be pragmatic: deconstruct/sell/trade the stuff you will never use - I bet you collect and hold a lot of stuff thinking "This looks interesting, let me hold it and try it on in one of these days" - and yet that never happens.

    PS - I'm a hoarder :D

Would this really work? I was thinking about something similar once i remember but gave up on the idea because of the many restriction around what you actually can store in the guildbank. Have you done something like this?

Inventory space is fine in this game (*) . Problem is the itemization which is not disciplined enough for a MMO.
Every dlc / "chapter" will continue to make it worse and worse. There is no hope it will ever will be fixed.

(* I'd expect having a free or cheap permanent craft bag for 1 stack of every mat as standard QOL. But can't have that with monetization wrapping its suckers around everything that would make game better.)

    I know.

I hate logging alts, so admittedly I haven't maxed out storage on all of them, but I do furnishing as well, so find managing inventory a total pain.

My inv is permanently at least 3/4 full, so I have to keep porting home, all the time, to decon and sell>open reward packages>decon and sell again.

I need more bag room on one character, rather than having it split between multiple chars I don't use.

Plus, I need more bank space.

    L2P = Learn to Purge
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.
