The repair only works 1 time. As soon as I logged out, and reopened the launcher to check, error 209 again.

You don't have to do any of this garbage. The error is intermittent. Just retry repair and/or closing/opening the launcher until it works.

Ok here is my Update if you have followed my reply's in this thread you know its been a long day.

I just got done installing a clean download of the Game from my account download link.
it was a 22GB download followed by 65mb, 65mb, 5gb, 35mb and 47mb patch of the game files...

The game is looking as it is working without error 209 problems.
Now on a side note before all of this I was using the "BETA ver of the game patched to the LIVE ver of the game." Not sure if that is what the problem is or not. But I wanted to throw it out their... If any Dev's or GM's are still looking into this..

When I launch the game it now states Ver 1.0.0.968197
Again I do not know if that is todays patch or what not but the game is working for me it at least now started to the log in screen and the game let me play.

I have tested this 4 times now with no more error's or any problem at all

I know this is not what a lot of you want to hear But I can say 100% unlike others who have stated these so called delete and replace files etc. This method does work

When deleting do not hold Shift+Delete. Just hit the delete key and say yes to move it to the recycle bin.

I did not delete any folders. When I paused the install, the install process apparently had started to replace the files in the game folder already. I have like 300mb of installed game now.

Please name a few.
I've been involved with MMO development since 1997, and never seen this "common" error, nor any error that required this particular workaround.

I recall the need to delete files from the Ultima Online installation to allow a patch, one time, and it didn not require any further actions to accomplish.

And I recall an issue which required creating a text file containing nothing but a specific numeric value, and nothing more.

I recall no game that ever had a version error that required this kind of walk-through to repair, nor were those others necessary for more than One Hour before the respective companies applied a patch to repair the issue.

Have had this with WoW several times, and they are considered the leader...

I tried that as well as repairs for quite some time. None of it worked. Since mods supposedly said this fix worked, I thought I'd give it a try.

But killing my game folder and requiring a redownload might be the thing that causes me to not be able to play anymore. I switched internet plans after buying this game, and the new one has a cap on usage. 15 dollars per gb over, so after adding it up again it would cost me more to redownload than to buy the game all over again.

O.o are you using a mobile internet source or something?
I have never heard of an at home high speed plan that has a usage that low.

I live out in the middle of nowhere in the US, getting a hotspot from Verizon was our only option to have internet over 1mb/s. The previous internet we had averaged around 300k/s. On the bright side, that internet had no capacity - so downloading the game the first time took me 8 days, but I was able to eventually do it.

Edit: But of course, Verizon locked me in for two years.

Thanks. This worked out oddly enough. I haven't tested if fixes it permanently, though. Least I can play.

I don't know why it works, but it keeps me playing without all these crazy people telling me to re-install 22 gigs and doing all sorts of crazy things.

Update: I used the fix in the OP, got to play, client crashed. When I restarted the launcher, I was getting the error again. This is simply poor programming, Zenimax. Poor poor poor programming.

God I wish i'd tried this before re-installing, luckily I have the disks but still it's going to take a while. Also stupidly I decided to re-install the game in the same location my original was, so the game decided to delete itself completely, before starting the new install, so I can't even go try this now while it's installing

Oh god, this bug and fix is hilarious. Did they even test the new update before rolling it out?

I went through all of these fixes, and the issue is still happening for me. At one point, the launcher 'magically' fixed itself.. But that was for one login.. Next time I logged out, closed, and tried to re-login, the problem started once again. I followed both ZOS's instructions as well as various player fixes to no success. I absolutely refuse to re-install, as I can see it has only helped some people and not others.

Also, I am able to bypass the launcher and play by clicking the .exe file instead. They need to get a fix up for this as soon as possible.. I'm generally very patient and understanding, but with the sheer amount of people this has happened to, it's almost like they didn't test the patch at all before rolling it out.

Ahh, I remember this type of solution in EQ, having to delete files then put them back. NO THANK YOU, last time I ran a repair I downloaded 22gigs, sorry but this needs to be fixed on their end, I paid good money for a working game. in my mind ESO = Great Game but EPIC FAIL, released 1 - 2 months early in my opinion. Reminds me of Hellgate London fantastic game but they rushed it out the door to meet the publishers deadline.
