If you've been living under a rock, Lucas is the guy who has been making all the large key art paintings for ESO content from Thieves Guild and moving forward. He just released the latest in the series, as well as mentioning this will be the final key art piece he is going to make in "the forseeable future", though he will still remain employed by ZOS doing other things forward.
Coincidentally, I started in ESO just about the same time as Lucas, 4 years ago, and I've loved all the amazing art pieces he has made since then. The visual style of the game itself, the concept art we have seen, and they key art pieces is for me a very large motivation to playing this game, as the ingame and outgame visual art style appeals very much to me.
So thanks for your work so far, and looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!

This is also a large proposal for ZeniMax to release this man's art as a collected art folio, or a poster compendium, or anything really that would allow fans to have it hanging on their walls or collected in their libraries. Make it happen!

I'm sad we won't be seeing more Elder Scrolls universe art from him. He brought the mundus into such vivid reality. But happy he is finding new things to do. Not quite sure what he is doing though

This one thinks it is probably super secret or he would have told us yes.

Well farewell to the Leo-nardo Do-Vinchy of Khajiit. We may never look so good again - unless your super secret new role involves a whole new world just full of Khajiit perhaps?

May bright moons light your canvas.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that the new IP that ZOS is developing is quietly sucking talent from ESO, and that is where he is going.

I've been a fan ever since I saw his presentation on how he produces his key art for ESO. (I mean I guess technically I liked his art before then, but I couldn't have told you who painted it.) Not only is his art gorgeous and compelling, but he gave a really insightful lecture on his creative process and how his pieces go from concept to finished work.

It is sad that he won't be doing more of these awesome paintings, but I hope that we'll be seeing his artistic touch in other ways if he's staying with ZOS.

If he is going to off to work on their new game, then yes, his work will likely be seen. In an entirely new way, with a new subject.

I wouldn't be surprised if by now, the bulk of the office is delegated to that project.

Then it's a loss for ESO, but good for him I suppose. I hope he sticks to/returns to fantasy illustrations, whether it's for TES or another universe.

I hope he finds a way to insert his gorgeous Ragdoll cat into more images! ;)

From one artist to another - long may you continue to paint. :)
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

I'm not going to say that this amazing artwork is the reason I play ESO, but I'm not going to say it isn't either.

Edit: This may not be the same Intellectual Property (IP) that the person referred to, but it is one game in development in the ESO universe that he may be partaking in.

Bethesda should definitely add at least some of his work to the Cook & Becker library. ESO in general, really.

Though I have to admit, two of my favorites in his portfolio are for Detective Comics. E-Sports Krypto and 'Infinite Metal' Atomic Wonder Woman

I have a hunch, if speculation is true, that the hiatus is due to Bethesda requesting a specific, returning art team for next year. Sometimes the marketing machine has the last say on things...
