Error 301

Killswitche
Im getting an error 301 can't connect to server. Its either that or it just says time out over and over. Game patched and I did have to do a repair but now can't actually login. Quite frankly I feel like I bought a lemon. The thing doesn't even run properly half the time.

Same here... anyone got info? Don't find anything in the *** 'server status' forum crammed with foreign language drek.

Error 209 then 301 for me. Is this some kind of secret quest? Do i need to collect one more error to be able to log in and play the game? If so, does anyone know where error 502 is?

I'm getting 301 (3:1:1223:90098) and login time out error but my husband right next to me can log in fine. I've tried closing and reopening the launcher but it's still not working...

IF you game version is showing as 1.0.0.964485 (which is the old version) AND you are suffering from log in time outs/error 301 this following piece of advice is the only thing that has worked for me in 7 hours of attempts:

It appears some of zenimax's launcher.bethesda.net servers aren't working properly.

As per this reddit post http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/234c5r/login_time_out/cgtavta, I pointed launcher.bethesda.net to a known working server in my windows hosts file.

What you need to do is open notepad as administrator and open the hosts file location at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Add the following line to the end of the file:

    54.243.115.56 launcher.bethesda.net

Save the file and start the ESO launcher. It should start to patch.

Same thing. Alternating "Timeout" and Error 301. Closed, reopened, repaired, tried again, closed, reopened, tried again, x3. 301...

    Totally working! Thank you!

I tried pinging launcher.bethesda.net and got 54.243.115.56 however I still can't login due to 301 and login time out errors.
My husband is resolving the host name to 54.197.250.95 and is able to log in. However changing my host file to point to that IP didn't fix the issue either.

*Edit* So making the host file change to point to 54.197.250.95 then closing the launcher and reopening it finally got the game to patch properly and now I can log in.

NOTE: For those using this workaround, remember to comment out the host file entry tonight before you shut down your PC. It will likely cause other issues keeping it there long term. DNS is there for a reason. Just add a # before the line you want to comment out.

No, do his instructions - if hosts does not exist, left click create text file name it hosts (don't leave a .txt on the file) past line into it - save file. then start launcher. :D

FINALLLY! For goodness sake! A patch! *What a nightmare*
I'll post back when I know if I can *finally* log in.

I personally am also going to write a letter of complaint for this as this is a *simple* issue for them to fix and I cannot believe I had to get help in this way and was blocked out for a *whole day* again!

    Close Launcher.

Click START go to COMPUTER then open C then open WINDOWS then open SYSTEM32 then open DRIVERS then open HOSTS (right click open in notepad.exe or select notepad.exe from the 'open with' window that pops up.

Use your arrow keys to go to the bottom and on a new line paste this:
    54.243.115.56 launcher.bethesda.net

    Save.

    Start launcher.

    I hope that helps.

Actually I think its just the launcher icon that's stuffed, go to the launcher folder under your game install and click on the Bethesda launcher exe and it starts the update ok. My desktop icon still says beta in it and think that's the issue.

What worked for me. I was getting error 301 and not able to login. I went into launcher through c: programme files etc, created a new shortcut from that and launched, deleted old shortcut. It started updating the patch.

same problem here. I tried every server on the list, pinged each IP and get a non-response. Was working fine up till Monday, zero issues.
