The funny thing, I am the guy who is less motivated to complain, because if you look at my numerous videos across the years, I always, always and only used an heavy attack pet + lightning spec and I am the one in game who has been hit less of all (regarding magicka specs). Moreover I mostly do trials so I get from healers the sustain help I need.
I just got annoyed reading a ton of other people complaining all day long both on zone chat and guilds. I am especially afraid about my guilds, because (and you can find references on this forum) I an others have voiced their concerns about our trial guilds not being able to get fresh people any more. There's always a turnover, but this time for two guys who (for any reason) have to leave the game, only 1 joins in.
One of my trial guilds stands since beta and spans across most MMOs, they are not "noobs" and are really social and not "elite standards". But even them have issues recruiting people now.
Look unless you actually have proof of any kind then I'm going to have to call you out on this.
The problems aren't that bad, your guilds aren't quitting in a 2:1 exodus. Stop lying. If you're losing 8k dps out of 20k total then you need to learn to rotate and not rely on DoTs as your sole source of dps.
Don't call someone out when the proof is in the pudding.
ESO has now experienced six straight months of decline (https://steamcharts.com/app/306130). Going back to it's launch, it has NEVER had six months of decline. Even more, when a new DLC hits, ESO would have a spike in players. We just had Dragonhold drop and all it got to is 14k concurrents which is less than it had last month at 19k concurrents. So this is the first time we have seen a DECLINE in players even with the new content.
No, my friend, the exodus right now is very real and very noticeable and the majority of it falls on the current combat team having just plain worn people out with their wild swings in meta from patch to patch.ESO peaked in May of this year and the decline since then has been very rapid. There has been a 54% decline in the player base since the peak. The last time ESO had this low of concurrents was in early 2017.

I've played the game and read my 5 guilds chats. 3 of them are for trading, 1 is a social PvE guild, one is "dedicated" PvE.
Well, for the first time I have seen "randoms" (those that the balance devs consider spending their happy time randomly killing dragons and stuff) complaining so much.
Usually, you see "activist" forum posters, PvPers, Youtubers and similar to complain about nerfs and similar.
Average Random Joes do not read the forums, do not read the ESO blog, do not watch videos. They just login, queue for some normal and vet keys and so on.
Well, for the first time even Random Joes are frustrated. Especially magicka players.
Now their class is just non functional any more. It's not enough to flip a couple of skills, re - re - re - re - re "adapt" the 1000th gear set and rotation.
This time basic gameplay blocks have just ceased to function. In my personal case I have used liquid lightning (or splash) since beta. It's even a more foundation class identiy skill than crystal fragments. And... voilà... it's gone. Fi-ni-shed. If you are so stupid to still use it, you are just a waste, you really want to place <generic faceless skill xyz> in its place.
But it's not just that. For the first time in 5 years I had to trash everything (including Maelstrom weapon) and grind a fire set. Because either you go all out NO AoE NO Dot fire spec, or you are just a piece of unmitigated garbage to your team. It's a 180° gameplay change enforced on you.
Sustain? Even worse. I completely hate fire specs, I adapted to heavy attack builds long ago. But now, even an heavy attack at every rotation is not enough any more!
This is not just "felt" by me. I actually run trials 80% of the time, so I am going to use potions, foods and have full healers support on that.
But this weighs heavily on those who do not run trials like me. The Random Jones. Until yesterday they could solo some stuff, now they ceased to.
2 rotations and they are out of magicka and die. Are people meant to buy tripots, golden food and maybe have an healbot follow them to just do random stuff outside of a trial?
The sustain nerf has been way too harsh.
"But you can slot regen enchants blah blah blah". Hell yeah! If only everybody had to. But no, classes that were already prevalent at top DPS, mainly stamina based, don't need any sacrifice. They parsed 100k 2 days ago and they'll parse top DPS tomorrow.
The others, who were behind to begin with (despite having to use melee Zaan set and sit at melee range to get healers buffs), now will be even more behind.
But this matters little to Random Joe.
What matters Random Joe is that now he gets kicked out of veteran dungeons (especially DLC) because now he just passed the thresold between "he's average but OK enough" and "no way, his DPS is way too low".
Actually, this whole post has been created because I precisely read on guild chat of a couple of guys experiencing exactly this.
Random Joe does not have the time or money to always get "no compromise" gold food, so he goes purple and his health (regen food) is too low now.
Meanwhile, the rich raider, goes all out golded, has full healers support everywhere and his DPS is still vastly enough to finish any kind of content (bar vSS timed run).
ZOS has landed low blows to a lot of people in the last 2 years, but this time they are hard hitting the majority, not just the "min-maxers-who-cry-at-losing-100-DPS".
It's like they have two teams:
- content production developers, constantly working hard to deliver better and more gorgeous looking new regions, quests etc.
- game balance developers, paid to discourage everyone, to remove fun (who finds fun to double heavy attack at each rotation?), remove class identity, remove flavour.
It's absurd.

There ARE screenshots in this thread showing complaining, and in zone chats when you play the game, and in guild chats when guilds hold off on content they’d been farming like grass because the changes threw everything on its head. My endgame guild still hasn’t resumed the vSS farm runs, and they’re the “elitists” people keep claiming are happy to do this ever few months. Plot twist, they hate it too.

Ok so the claim is "This directly hits medium and low "status" players the most."
1. Medium and low "Status players aren't signing up for vSS hard mode farms. This isn't affecting them as much as it is the high tier players who are all whining about it in the forums. I also wanna point out that the 2 screenshots showing low turn out aren't separate days apart or different guilds, they are from the same guild 6 minutes apart.
2. "My character feels rolled back" is as vague as possible and not damning.
3. Going to take a guess and say this isn't mid or low lvl randoms and is a high lvl trial group trying to min max their damage. This has happened every patch and "X stat is *** for Z class" post always happens. If it doesn't happen you get WoW and everyone in the same exact gear because at that lvl there's only 1 set for each class to have.
4. It doesn't occur every 5 weeks. Hyperbole isn't going to help you.
5. "They never fix anything" and "Just patch every half year" in the same sentence. So we can have the same low IQ people posting the same friends but with new titles, "ZOS WHY YOU PATCH EVERY 6MONTHS? I HAVE TO WAIT 6MONTHS FOR ALL THESE BROKEN THINGS TO BE FIXED? RAGE RAGE RAGE RAGE RAGE." Look when you can screenshot of an opinon that doesn't immediately contradict itself I'll be impressed.
6. Cyro, the lag. Sorry but this is more sad to see then helping your opinion.
I use sustain enchants on my Stam Warden (and always have, as I hate running out of resources), so I don't really see why you can't at least try them?
If other classes/builds don't need them (and still do very high DPS), clearly those classes/builds are OP.
The aim, surely, should be to make all (predominently) DPS builds do roughly the same damage, with roughly the same amount of sustain.

No, of course people are P!SSED.

I've spent more recently min maxing pvp sets then I have changing metas but I'm also adaptable and I've played this game for more then 5min.

Yes, they cover a segment but they usually are pretty spot on with trends as well. Let's say only 20% of the player base is on Steam. Do you really believe it is only Steam users trending off by that much?
As for other data points. Here are four I have seen:
1.) Usually noticeably busy areas of the game, like the Vivec City crafting area have been noticeably lighter in population since the U24 PTS Patch Notes were released.
2.) While there are many guild in the game and some other in this thread seem to magically be in ones that haven't suffered loss, all of the guilds I am in (including one very well known one personally featured by ZoS) have had a very marked decline in the number of active logins.
3.) When CWC and Murkmire released, those zones were absolutely packed with players on launch. Dragonhold's Southern Elsweyr isn't even busy, never mind packed.
4.) I have played quite a few MMOs in the past over many years. A good indicator of trouble is when developers start writing articles defending decisions which are having a largely negative effect on the playerbase. ESO did it's first one defending the frequent combat changes. Unless ESO is the one exception, this is always a sign that even the company is seeing the numbers drop off and trying to stave it off. I saw it in GW2, SWTOR and LOTRO and the after effect was ALWAYS the same - the player base experienced a large drop off.
There are several data points and referenced trends to be able to see well beyond just the Steam Charts. You can defend it all you want, but someone just pointing to a few guilds they are in (without screenshots of what their actives were before this patch and what they are after), is just noise.
There are too many trends aligning at this point to think things are okay in ESO land. This combat team has done a lot of damage up to this point and I don't think ZoS is going to do anything to reign it in. They are going to ride with it and internalize some other reason, outside reality, why they are experiencing the decline in the player base they are.
PrayingSeraph wrote: »So has anyone provided proof from previous years of Steam being indicative of overall player base trends? Otherwise we cant say how reliable steam charts are. Regardless of that, people here are talking like their claims of ESO dying are fact, without proving it. The ONLY proof that has been presented is that ESO is dying on Steam. That's it. Steam charts do not prove that the game is dying outside of steam. Perhaps the game is dying outside steam, but steam charts are not proof of that
Also in regards to the rest of your comment, none of it was data. It was entirely anecdotal. I'm on Xbox NA and have not noticed any drop over the year. But this too is anecdotal, not data.

Everything has been nerfed except most overpowered DLC sets...
Because everyone knows that liqud lightning was so much gamebreaking!
What a coincidence! Next in the order to nerf - healing, CPs - remember my words!
You’re a white knight who’ll find any tiny ridiculous reason to shoot down anyone who’s reasonable ticked off by these constant meta tornados.
Another one for the Ignore list
zos needs to raise the dps floor, not lower the dps ceiling. lowering the dps ceiling historically has done nothing to the top tier players [still fluctuating around 90k no matter what since elsweyr] and only hurt newer or lower level players.
the only way I could think of them increasing the damage floor would be to nerf light attack weaving or entirely remove it, which would probably *** off a lot of people and frankly not even be possible with how skills work now designed around it. Maybe if LA's didn't do 9k+ dps. I'm not really sure how else they could make new players feel welcome and not like they deserve to constantly get spit and stepped on by the devs, but not boost the end gamers dps even more.
