and switching to first person view doesn't solve the problem.

That is like telling someone who doesn't like when others duel in a bank just don't go into banks.

Well we might be playing different games because it fixes it for me. It's also not like that, it's like telling someone that doesn't like dueling in banks to go to another bank. But god forbid something inconveniences you and you fix it yourself.

If there are any quests that take place in banks, etc., those could be moved easily.

It is unlikely that combat-related quests would be right there. Very, very, few in-town combat scripts happen and when they do usually the story moved you to an isolated spot where at most there's a mudcrab or 1-hp critter, nothing that'll get you a bounty accidentally. Devs aren't dumb all the time. Probably no adjustment needs to be made for quests.

As for duels in cities... yeah it happens but it shouldn't. Only lazy people don't take it outside.

I would like a momento that makes your character wave their hands exasperatedly above their head yellling 'shoo!' & all flying pets in a 5m radius fly away so they are positioned directly in front of the face of their owners.

SWL introduced a "pet" during one of their events. It was a non-combat pet that, when released, would look for someone else's non-combat pet and kill it, causing it to de-summon.
There was actually not a lot of crying over it. People didn't use it much but when they did, no one freaked out.

A memento that "shoo"-ed pets rather than dismissed them would probably be fine, except that the people who were forced to use it would still be upset that someone else's pet became their responsibility.
Like someone else's dog pooped on your lawn and you have to clean it up. It's really still the dog owner's responsibility and they are still getting a free pass.

Constant toxic comments like this are the reason I stopped dismissing my pets. The hate for pet sorcs is so ridiculous at this point that there's nothing to do but embrace it...

... and here I thought I was the only one! I find my flappy bird pet totally annoying and used to always dismiss it for my own sanity and the relief of others. The constant hate towards the class, and this build in particular, has influenced me to leave it up whenever I'm running a pet sorc toon. While I don't think I have one on this account, starting maybe a month ago, I now defiantly fly mine everywhere on my main and other alt account.

    It's a public service, really.

See, I told you all it was trolling. Nothing more than trolling. It's always a good thing when a troll finally admits to being a troll.

Any discussion about this topic that goes beyond the fact that the pet is a troll is pointless, useless and worthless and should be avoided entirely.

The only discussion is the "it's trolling and I don't like it" crowd versus the "it's trolling and it's a hoot!" crowd.

Making them smaller... hell yes, I'm games any time.
Introducing a system that unsummons them in cities... fine by me, but only if the system also resummons them when leaving.
Expecting me to manually unsummon them via the non-existing pet control system because someone somewhere might feel inconvenienced for a second? No, sorry.

I think adding a better way to desummon them is a good idea (I have an add-on that makes it a keybind).

I wonder if there'll ever be an option to change the matriarch to something less irritating, dizzying and in the way?

Just have them disappear when their owner goes inside a building, then reappear when they go outside again. I tend to deactivate mine when inside buildings because they even annoy me.

ZoS can we possibly reduce the size of the matriarch? I feel like they're bigger than they need to be in the first place.

How about giving us the option to reskin our combat pets?

I noticed when I deposit things in crafting drop-off boxes or initiate conversations with the npc vendors at crafting locations, my pets are unsummoned. So the players that hang out at the crafting locations with their pets blocking drop-off boxes obviously aren't there to drop off anything or talk to the merchant. My guess is they are either trolls trying to be silly, or bots waiting to reset. Lol! Just an observation. You should experiment yourself and verify that what I am saying is true. Though, it is possible one of my add ons causes the pets to be unsommed when I am dropping stuff off. I have not tested that yet.

How about just making pets dismiss automatically after interacting with writ board, crafting station, banker, merchant and writ chest? That way it would remove clutter pets from those areas and wouldn't disable them from being used in cities.

They are? I didn't know that. I don't have a pet sorc and I always despawn the bear on my warden so I didn't really notice. Well then, if that doesn't work then banhammer it is.

    1. PLEASE fix the interactibility issues somehow - but that doesn't address the visual issue (the flapping is SO annoying, and sometimes you can't see the thing you want to activate)
    2. PLEASE make unsummoning EASY, going into the character page is not. It needs to be a one key thing you can just hit when you enter the bank or whatever. It used to be just hitting the same thing you did to summon them, but when they added the pets' special attacks the unsummon solution was NOT done well. There is an addon that gives you a keybind for this, but it really ought to be part of the game itself.

And let's not leave out the Warden Ultimate Bears that like to stand right in/on/around NPCs in towns.

Lorewise I think it makes perfect sense for the summoned daedra to be outlawed, but I do agree that would pose issues for people who chose a sorcerer pet build before such a change was implemented, I get that it doesn't seem fair, but Something needs to be done regarding the problems those pets impose on other players.

Are you on PC using Dolgubon's Lazy Writ? As far as I know, the pet/assistant dismissal code is still active. It's definitely not the default game behavior.

Switch to first person view. Problem solved.

How is that solved, please? I always play in first person and am constantly amazed by the number of players who either don't seem to know how to unsummon their pets or suffer from that attitude of entitlement for self regardless of the inconvenience to others/aka ignorant arrogance. I always hope that it is the former. I didn't always know.

An alternative to ban would be to provide players with a proper pet interface. You know, something to display pets HP (there is an addon for that), button shortcuts to give pets commands such as "attack this target" (which may not be the target your character is attacking), "follow passively", and well, obviously, an ability to unsommon pets without having to remove them from your skill bar.

That sort of things has existed in MMOs for as far as I have been playing them, one way or another, so it's been at least 18 years. It's not like the tech is so damn hard to implement.

The real problem seems to be the Twilight. What if when not moving, she landed and crouched down, kind of sniffing the air and cooing? She'd still be there, and would take flight again once the player starts moving again, and it would be a bit more realistic than having her flapping in midair all the time.

The world doesn't revolve around you and your convenience buddy. Expecting other players to go through the entire unsummon (C, scroll-scroll, right click, right click (oops... accidentally killed my mundus buff), ESC) routine each time they visit a city is just impertinent. Give me a viable non-pet build and I'll gladly dump the critters for good. Until then, enjoy the looks.

Personally I'd prefer they made it easier for pet classes to unsummon their pets and made it so they're automatically unsummoned in areas around the bank, crafting stations and other areas where they're likely to be both unnecessary (because you're not going to be in combat) and annoying.

I play all classes, including warden and sorcerer and whilst I find other people's pets annoying in those areas I've also caught myself dragging mine into town because after doing a whole delve or whatever I almost forget that I can dismiss them and should when I don't need them, I'm just used to them being there by that point. Or I think I'm just stopping at a merchant for 30 seconds or so to clear my inventory and it's not worth the hassle of unsummoning and resummoning them all, but then something distracts me and I end up being there much longer.

I'd also like to see them follow up on the grey bear for wardens with more optional skins for all summoned pets, which I think might help. For example I'd love to have a non-flappy skin for the twilight because the constant flapping puts me off using it. If I could change it into another kind of daedrea (same skills, just a different appearence) I'd do it in a heart beat and never look back. Similarly I'd love to have a wolf or a senche for my warden, which as well as being a better fit for her would also be smaller and less likely to get in the way.

I always unsummon my sorc pets in city zones, ever since I learned how to do it, BUT! I really wouldn't like them to disappear automatically, it would make me feel terribly insecure. Other people's Twilights sometimes bother me, but only a little. As for the bears, please, PLEASE don't make them disappear automatically! It's logical that a daedra can be unsummoned, but a living, breathing bear? My trusted combat companion, who has taken great damage for me so many times?! No!
Also, u need to have ult to summon him again. Also, the bear is quite easy to sidestep.

Actually, it's only exactly ONE TIME that I've had my way really blocked for more that a couple of seconds, and it was by someone's banker standing in the doorway of the bank in Rimmen. Even then it was just a minor vexation, I managed to move past him after some fiddling with the keyboard. Please, don't make the problem look bigger than it is.

You know you can't dismiss pet without downloading an addon, right?

Maybe ask ZoS for that ability, first, before ignorantly calling people rude, or lazy.

Otherwise, you have to physically remove the pet skill from your bars (if you have it on both bars), every time.

I play a Warden and I dislike the fact that, even as the pet's owner, you can't click on things through the (large) pet.

But, again, that is ZoS's fault for making them obstruct things (and for making bear the only option); not the player's.

Have them land like the non combat flying pets would solve this.
it would also look cool and realistic, might give them a couple of seconds hover before landing.
Yes this would require some more work but would be optimal.

In the time that we are at , we are being attacked by Daedra and yet it is okay within city limits for players to have Daedric pets summoned but yet a necromancer cannot summon any of their pets are abilities in the public eye as it is a crime and I would highly doubt the necromancers anything would block access to Banks, doors, Quest givers, drop off boxes, crafting locations so I would find it that it'd be a more convenient to the community for the pets to unsummon while in town or make it a crime to have them summoned in town because the whole you could walk around it by going into first person, moving to one side or the other or just wait is just the same as saying you could go into your pull down unsummon your pet and show the rest of the community some respect but that's just too hard
Or make pets targetable and if killed have a 15-minute spawn time put on them as I know during the time of war against the Daedra if I seen a Daedric pet in my city limits I would kill it and at any given time if I seen a bear wandering the streets I would kill it too

From a lore/immersion/roleplay point of view, conjuration isn't actually that far above necromancy in practical terms. Also, in the same way that a mad mage throwing fireballs in the streets would be generally "frowned upon" because of the death and destructions they could cause, using the soul of a lesser creature to bind a daedric entity that the mage can lose control of would also not be so easily accepted by the general population in towns and cities. Have you ever seen that summoner out in the wild who loses control of his summons and gets killed? Why do you think he's doing this in the wilds in the first place if summoning daedra is perfectly fine to do in towns?

Also, in what universe do bears wander around in towns and not raise so much as an eyebrow, let alone screams from panicked citizens?

Furthermore, I've been against persistent sorc pets from the very start of the game, because in previous TES games daedric summons only last a short time, rather like how the necro pets behave. That's how the sorc pets should behave as well. (I say this as a sorc main from launch).

Ban all combat "pets" from towns and cities. It makes no sense that they are there, and it ruins immersion for those of us who care a damn about common sense and the lore.
