MMO's survive through new content, content being repeated and players participating in different content. RNG is what keeps players repeating content. Skills that are locked behind PvP are useful in PvE and sets that are good for PvP comes from PvE content. This gives players incentive to try different parts of the game. Sure getting the gear you want can be a grind if you let it but RNG is good for the long term health of the game.

There's nothing wrong with RNGs; they take something that would otherwise be static and completely predictable, and allow it to be random and unpredictable.

It's the formulas which are fed into the RNGs that can be problematic.

The good news is, problematic formulas can be adjusted.

The bad news is, you have to try to convince the developers that the formulas are problematic and need to be adjusted.

" I farmed *insert some place* 200 times" Seems to be the go to number these days

It's coded into the game. The game looks at what gear you got, determines which set you're probably after, and doesn't let it drop until the 200th run.

Honestly, you guys deserve to be behaved like this. I am just a casual, i am gonna quit, not going to give my precious time for this stupidity. You just sit there, run the same dungeons 1000 times, then defend people make you do this. You deserve what you get, 100%.

Quests are extraordinary, there is super fun Cyrodiil PvP, there is amazing trials, yet we are running dungeons all day long just to get stuff we want to play the actual game. Is this what you call MMO rpg? Is this the definition? You want to try the Rattlecage with an ice staff on the backbar in Cyrodiil. Guess what, you have to run Vault of Madness 12 hours for the amazing Rattlecage ice staff. You want to try Amberplasm fire staff on the front bar, guess what, you have to run Ruins of Mazzatun 20 hours for it. MMO Rpg...

i feel you. as PVPer i have to deal with this gungeon crap too. thats why i still wear overland sets or crafted sets, rather than dungeon farmed ones

    rgn can be quite b***h

its even worse for monster helmets. golden vendor usually sells crap and as, even in pvp, solo player i have zero chance to get helmets from new veteran dungeons

This is called playing an MMO rpg. It's not supposed to be something you clear in 20 hours. If you can't put in the time then find a game that you enjoy playing more.

    No it is not!!!

Yes it is. Sorry you are an uninformed consumer but that is a main staple of RPGs especially MMOrpgs.

yes OP i know what r u talking about and i agree 100%. I learned a lesson to never build something that involves jewels or weapon slots from dungeons, especially from dlc ones.

The only time I was lucky with the rng loot in dungeons was with Thurvokun's heavy infused helmet that dropped in my first vet Fang Lair run and the inferno BSW staff. Got it in my 40+ run in a chest when I ve heard from a lot of people, both here and in guilds that they ve done 200+ runs and never seen it drop.

But when I tried to get a Brands of Imperium 1h weapon, it dropped at around 80+ runs. 60+ runs in Frostvault and no Tzogvin's bow. Lost count of Deshaan dolmens and no purple Sorrow jwlry. 100+ runs in Darkshade Caverns and not one lightning Netche's Touch staff.

Same happens to material extraction. A few days ago, I refined 800 platinum ounces and got zero chromium grains. That's insane.

Not saying that everything should dropped at a 50% rate but the current drop rate is just nightmarish.

Well I will call *** on your numbers

I haven’t run any dungeon near 200 times. I don’t think I’ve run any one even 100 times and I have all the gear I need from them. BSW inferno staff, multiple UI lightning staffs (hello Arx and Easy Sorcs everywhere) etc. And it’s not RNG that prevents me from having perfected gear.

Could RNG be used less in the game - definitely. I get the frustration. I ran Arx Corinium a lot to get my UI lightning staffs (and eventually got them on a solo farm of the normal dungeon) and every failed run was an annoyance, but when I got them it felt rather fabulous to be honest and they are now fully golded and locked. On the other hand I don’t feel anything makes you more confident of ‘knowing’ a particular dungeon than doing a few regular runs on it, either farming or questing for tickets. I know people who were very apprehensive of WGT, but who did it every day during the IC event and now really enjoy it.

Rattlecage is one of those annoying sets (like UI) that is the wrong weight, so you do need the weapons and jewels. But it’s a fun dungeon with a good helmet, so you should always be able to find people to do a quick couple of runs.

Good luck. Hopefully you get it soon and feel that sense of inexplicable triumph and elation.

Just ask the 3 other people in your group, or those that are CP160, that you are looking for a specific set piece and will tip, about 1K a piece or 10K if its the exact trait you were after at most.

Ideally find some friends or guild mates that are willing to do some runs with you to farm for the gear your after.

Don't waste a large sum of gold on a farming group, you should only pay a large amount of gold if you were doing a VET DLC dungeon for a monster helm you desperately want and can't find a group.

Other than that Rattle cage is not a good set, save yourself some time and find another set for your build, its disappointing to use, farming the armor pieces for my Necromancer was a pain, barely ended up using it.

If you ever plan to use a dungeon set, farm the body pieces, buy or craft weapons and jewelry, it will save you a lot of time in the long run.

    Steps to reduce grind:

    1.) Find a guild
    2.) Make friends
3.) Ask them to help you grind for a particular set piece

If you had multiple people helping you, the chances for YOU to get the drop you NEED increases with each willing person to help you.

If you just want to get the pieces yourself then you're only making the grind worse on yourself.

It's always been this way in MMOs because it promotes longevity of the game's survival. If you got everything you wanted in one day, you would get bored really quick and most likely move on.

It's not about what's at the end of the road but the journey it takes to get there.

Wow - forum groupthink off the deep end here. Saying it’s an MMO is no defence for this hateful, asinine loot system. Token or currency accumulation exists in many other titles in order to acquire items you need eventually. So yes you will grind for a while but acquisition will occur. Not so here - you just suffer.

Don’t say the grind is supposed to be there - ESOs weapon/jewelry farming is beyond ridiculous. People can play and grind for literal years before they see BSW Infernos or a Hircines shield. And yes - re: the useless advice above - that was with friends in group.

There is no need for this - there is no defence for it at all. The content is good - I want to play it - what I don’t want is to be forced into Selenes Web or Scalecaller every night of the week for months/years because ZoS has less faith in the replayability of their own content than I do.

Undaunted vendors were a step in the right direction - now add another dungeon currency or let us buy weapon/jewelry coffers from the pledge givers ... its long overdue.
This is called playing an MMO rpg. It's not supposed to be something you clear in 20 hours. If you can't put in the time then find a game that you enjoy playing more.

No one who has actually put in the sort of time I refer to would defend this inherently anti-player loot system. “Clearing in 20hrs” has nothing to do with it. The loot system itself actively prevents players from going out and enjoying the game the way they want to. How dumb is that?

Issue is, the number isn't tracked by the game, so we're left to guess how many times we've run a given dungeon. At that point it's easy to throw around numbers like, "I've run this hundreds of times," when it is, in fact, under 50.

I'd love to know how many COA runs I've done, to get three BSW BBQ sticks. I get the feeling I've run it more than normal helping other people farm, but, I don't know.
