More solo dungeons

While I agree this is an MMO, I don't understand the stand against solo gameplay. Vma has been insanely popular and is a classic in my opinion. But why only one?

Was really hoping for a solo arena with Dragonhold. Was a bit disappointed. It’s been several years since Maelstrom drooped, it’s time for another one.

An interesting suggestion I saw a while ago was to improve the rewards for normal dungeons if completed solo. Some dungeons might need to be tweaked in order to make this possible, either in mechanics or difficulty, but could be interesting.

This game is already too "solo". We need more content, that forces players to play together, not hide in private bunkers and caves.

The actual dungeons are very duo-friendly.

My wife and I have duoed over half of them in normal mode and a handful in vet, because that matches our skill level. Other folks might seek out harder ones. But there should be a lot accessible to almost any team.

Somes we use two magicka characters with healing. Sometimes we swap in one true tank. Either way works fine. Occasionally one of us brings stamina DPS instead. Other configurations would surely work as well.

I know, I duo both normal and vet base game dungeons as well as the DLC dungeons up to scalebreaker with my wife - we make all of our characters balanced to cover each others weaknesses. :)

That's not what I'm talking about here.

I want content that is balanced for two people, purposefully with mechanics that favor two people without luck or cheesing required.

I really like the concept of vMA and enjoy the boss fights, but if we ever get another solo arena I hope it has fewer trash rounds and/or fewer rounds in general. Adds nothing to the actual difficulty, just makes it harder to fit into my evening.

Well if you feel that way then maybe the developers should stop putting stories in dungeons that don’t get seen by people that actually want to see them because of being forcibly rushed. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Just my 2 cents.

What’s wrong with solo play? MMO’s these days cater to both.

Most NonDLC dungeons can be solo'd on normal.....

What we need is proper progression with iterative end game gear that supports a appropriately challenging content scale. More focus on progression of power and player skill rather than rng insta death mechanics.

We actually don’t need any content that forces players to do anything. We need content that is attractive enough that players will want to play it. You encourage players to play together by creating content that fosters enjoyable communal play - anything from trials to rp to collective home decoration - not by force.

There is a lot of solo content and a limited amount of group oriented content.

And a certain amount of the group content can be done solo. Doing the group dungeons solo is very satisfying on a build and skills challenge level.

Having another vMA arena would be interesting, but it would risk either cannibalising the (limited number of) players doing vMA if it was harder or fail to satisfy those (even smaller number of) players who already find vMA too easy if it didn’t match up.

Personally, I would love a new modular solo arena, where each instance had, say, 5 levels randomly drawn from a pool of 10+ levels and a final boss level. This could mean it was more varied, took less time and could be relatively easily added to over time to keep it fresh. It might also allow for more of a genuine player progression than the current normal -> vet leap there is at present, which might encourage more players to do it.

And I agree that while I want each dungeon to have a story, solo questing in group dungeons doesn’t work. It is deeply unsatisfying for everyone, both the player who wants to do the quest and those in the group that aren’t doing it and comes with the added bonus of a “quest shafting” if all the other group members decide to leave before the quest is done.. Even if you have dedicated questruns it’s easy to have continual logjams or for players to miss vital cutscenes and dialogue, the most recent dungeons being some of the worst offenders as far as that goes. Either find some way of making them work for everyone, or simplify them/drop them entirely.

Every MMORPG that has taken the "we'll add content to FORCE players to group-up" approach has seen only one effect from doing so - declining player numbers.

Not sure what you've been playing, what with all the "addons that do all the combat for you" and the other super cheating that goes on where ever you are, but there are a lot of dungeons that can be soloed already. More would be fine, but it works with what is there now.

That would be great. My ideal arena would ask you at the door how many in the party (1-4) - which you could bump up if you wanted more difficulty - and a general difficulty level, and then put together an arena for you that would never be exactly the same as any other run.

No idea how hard it would be to implement, or how they'd iron out how the loot would scale, but imagine varied combat scenarios instead of memorizing spawn points and mechanics. It would stay interesting a lot longer than maelstrom did, regardless of the drops.

Yes definitely - more solo end game content would be great. vMA is great content despite the bugs and lag. It's legit endgame that you can run anytime you like. That's one of it's biggest strengths imo.

I enjoy some of the vet DLC dungeons and trials in this game very much - there is plenty of challenging and interesting content, but it can be hard to get a group together to run it.

I don't understand the distinction you're drawing. A considerable fraction of the dungeons we now have are balanced for:
    • A tank
    • Plus damage dealing
    • Plus emergency healing (which is a very part-time job)

A group of two fits into that structure very well. Vs. a group of 4 you give up a lot of damage dealing plus some damage buffing, but if you can do enough damage to finish fast enough to suit yourself, where's the problem?

There are a few fights where that's not really true. I'd say Captain Blackheart is one, but in fact I've duoed it anyway, and it seems you have too. Malubeth is probably the next one up the difficulty ladder; I imagine it's doable if the DD has good snare removal, but I haven't actually duoed it yet. I don't know how to duo the FG2 pinion fight if one character does pathetic damage so yes, that one's probably better done with a pair of self-sufficient characters. But basically there are about two dozen dungeons in the game that are well-suited for duoing, with difficulty levels ranging from nBC1 to vWGT, which is a pretty broad range.

I always love it when the word "forces" is used on the forums. I've had this happen to me, woken in the middle of the night by ZoS employees who strong armed me into getting out of bed and playing content or something or other. It's very disconcerting.
