I would buy an Unarmed skill line if I get to hear quick and meaty punches.

Monk should have been the class released with Elsweyr...but they missed that opportunity.

Dragons + Cats + Necromancy was such a mess.

My initial reaction to that picture was, why is he dressed like Superman, and where is his cape? But then I realized that the "red boots" were actually his furry feet.

that would've made more sense, but people were begging for a necro class for far longer.
Although, it didn't turn out anything like they envisioned though... careful what you wish for.

    monk class?
...is not a thing, nor can it be - because the things that -would- make this what most people consider it to be are not class skills, but weapon and armor skills - namely, a "unarmed" and an "unarmored" skill line!
    Which they could totally make!
Now, realistically mere "martial arts" should not realyl be competetive against armored enemies and proper weapons... but magically enhanced martial arts (aka, a melee magica skill line) could be!
    Like: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/371862/additional-weapon-skill-ideas-mk-ii/p1 ;)

And a "unarmored" skill line that favors evasion... might also be a possibility!

It would be too soon for that... ever!
Because "new classes" are evil! EVIL I say!
Sure, they might seem a good idea to new players who just started their first alt, but they would be a great vexation to all old hands who have been playing since launch, both for the aggrivation of "What, now I have to make yet -another- alt to enjoy the new classyness" and the deep feeling of betrayal and dissapointment due to "Why the [censored] is that [censored] class only [censored] available now, it [censored] would have made so [censored] much more [censored] sense for tha [censored] main of mine. [censored]! [censored]! [censored]!" when seeing a class that would have made so much more sense for a character that has been played, riding training and researched for years...
    No. New. Classes.

Instead... I would really prefer to see them "refit" new classyness in a way that -everyone- can take, be it a newly created character or one played since launch... maybe like some sort of specialization system:

naaa a new class with every chapter seems in the realm of possibility... and i dont really see a monk class due to weapons...but a monk skill line seems possible...

i'd rather want my bard class :-)

wow... the history of Martial Arts frowns upon your comment. Gun powder is what Ended such. Not Heavy armor. In martial arts there is always a point of attack. Especially with farmers who used farm equipment to defend themselves. Most of such became weapons or evolved into such. Then you add the open hand techniques that came into being. (history & not fantasy)

So much of the art is knowing the point/or focus of attack on who you face. I'm preaching history with China against Japan centuries past. I'm glad the arts have not been lost. So much precision in a precise placed attack is lost in today's society. I took Karate & jujitsu for 9 yrs. I hate as Ive grown older.. i didn't continue my training. Work, women or training as i aged. Work for spending time with the woman won out. a 12hr a day job didn't help currently (manage a restaurant at a very popular beach area)

I can see a Melee attacks like ..

Kiai: melee & slight disorientation & Physical debuff
    http://the-martial-way.com/what-is-kiai/

We already have mobs that jump over you as a Technique to get behind you. If a mob can do it?

All the skills below can be adjusted(its workings & ability) to flare for a new Melee class such as a Monk.

    Jab

    Puncturing Strike

    eclipse

    healing ritual (

    Rune Focus

    Empowering Chains

    Spiked armor

    Reflective scales

    Blur

    Mark Target..

    etc..

even the mob jumping over you to get behind you is already coded.. why couldn't a char have this class skill?

Idk if ZOS should introduce another class for quite some time but they probably will. If they do, given the history of Necro and Warden, it'd be smart to just roll Stamina dps.

One of the things I had to get use to with this game is that, it is built for ranged combat. Even take a look at melee with weapons in its current state. You can stand at your maximum range of 9m ( I think) and still be able to slash and hack your way around a boss. Now I love the Idea of a monk character I really do, but I can just picture it now, your character would look like its just doing ZEN poses and Tai-chi based attacks which visually would lack the *Punch needed to look the part. Maybe there could be something implemented in the future. Playing with the idea of a (phase/blurring) like movement. Kind of like Neo from the Matrix when he is rapidly moving/ dodging bullets. Maybe then it might visually pair up with hitting a boss.
The character could stand at max distance and the abilities look as if copies of the *monk are rapidly punching closer.

Makes me think of this. hahaha

But unless then introduce new weapons? Like fighting gauntlets..... I just don't see any of the crafting tables currently being useful for a Monk.

    Great idea though.

wow... the history of Martial Arts frowns upon your comment. Gun powder is what Ended such. Not Heavy armor. In martial arts there is always a point of attack. Especially with farmers who used farm equipment to defend themselves...
...you mean, picked up a (somewehat improvised) -weapon- when fighting was imminent??? ;)

Because basically, that is what I am saying, that while martial arts can do a lot of things, when it comes to sheer -damage-, well... a martial artists fist may be much more of a lethal weapon then the average couch potatos flabby jab, but it certainly isn't up to the same trained warriors strength driving home their point with a nice piece of metal to tear and cut into their opponents to let out the red stuff, right? Especially if your martial arts fist is up against metal armor, don't you think?
...and that is why in the ideas mentioned in that link, I had all the "brawling" stuff do lower damage then the actual weapons, yet have more CC fun added to their skills.
Mostly because that IS how historic martial arts dealt with armored opponents - not try and punch through plate mail (or other armor that usually included a well padded gambeson underneath to cushion blows), that is the way of the broken fist... but to simply push, kick or -wrestle- the armored enemies to the ground and then hold a blade to their eyeslits and politely ask them if they prefer to surrender and maaaaybe be ransomed, or if they would rather like to be just a piece of canned meat... naturally it depends on circumstances, where the battle happened, who the sides were, and how hated an enemy we are talking about - while in the european middle ages a captured noble could get a neat ransom and thus bring great fortune to a commoner or mercenary capturing them, in many other corners of the world no such tradition existed and it was kill or be killed... and even the ransomable noble might often end up killed if they have been jerks in their conquesting ways before their capture...

Reminds me of an martial arts movie I once saw, ages ago... classic "rival schools conflict" setting, where a twist was that after good school students beat up evil school students, the evil students came back with swords... and the fight ended quite differently (to set up the final showdown between the hero and the villain of course).
And traditionally... all those empty handed martial arts were the -backup- for warriors, NOT the first choice! Simply because weapons were so much -better- when you wanted to actually kill people!

BtW, gun powder ended nothing. We have had it in wars for centuries, and any soldiers -still- train in hand-to-hand, and use it too on some occasions! Yeah, martial arts isn't so great against ranged weapons, be they guns or bows... and guns have beaten bows for centuries thanks to technical advancement... but there are always situations where range is not a consideration, wnd armies like to have their damage-dealers trained up for that eventuality too. Not to mention a great many others who keep martial arts alive and use it from cops to club bouncers to criminals... all despite living in a world of gunpowder, yes? ;)

BtW, I totally would love to have "weapon inactive" areas (barroom bawls?) in ESO, where those who DO spend some skill points on a hypothetical brawling skill line might have the advantage... just sayin... ;)
