With all the lore the Elder Scrolls series has, from Arena to ESO, and considering we've only had about three legit good video game movies, a movie is NOT a good idea.

A TV series, on the other hand...I think could work. If done right. As long as the right care was to put into it. And people like Uwe Boll or Benioff & Weiss stayed away from it.

No. The trend these days with new TV series is they lock it behind a subscription of whoever's hosting it. I dont want to pay extra on top of a cable plan just to watch 30min of Elder Scrolls once a week.

From Hollywood? No. Hollywood sucks at adapting video games into movies. Japan has a better track record with anime.

I hope there's never a movie, because it would inevitably suck. Video game movies always suck because the mediums are too different--and it's impossible make them into a movie that a broader audience would like without triggering ESO fans' nerd rage. When the Angry Birds movie is a high-point in video game cinema, I don't much faith in the genre.

If we ever get a movie, we'll have several minute loading screens at random, sometimes in the middle of a scene, and we'll need to buy new tickets in the middle of the projection to access DLC content - only second and third acts. Also, deoending on how you purchased your tickets, you might get random days during which you, and you only, are denied access to the projection room. But I hear tjey're working on the issue.

The Elder Scrolls series is ripe for cinematic adaptation. They can milk so easily movies and series based upon it. I cannot fathom why it hasn't been done yet. Today with things like Netflix, producers have way more freedom to release their products. I'm sure they could pump good quality content without going through the vileness of politically correct and Chinese censorship stuff in Hollywood. The best thing would if they would have full control over their IP instead of sell the rights to a third party. Any idiot can produce a movie today and Bethesda has the caliber to start this business.

I propose, honoring the tradition of the Elder Scrolls games, that they should just release the raw shots of the film, so that the modding community can edit and cut them to a final product. After that they can just split the film in parts and sell it seperately and after a few years they can just put an instagram filter on and re-release it for double the price!
I also propose that they should direct all the actors to speak in Oblivion voice over style to make it more lore friendly. Oh, and don't forget those fancy horse armors!

Imagine a TV serie about the birth of the Empire of Cyrodiil

    Alessian slave rebellion
    Pelinal Whitestrake
    War against the ayleids
Siege of the white gold tower

With a good director, actors and detailed scenario so that even someone who does not know the Elder Scrolls can find their way around.

If a group of producers/writers/directors and cast did it right, they could pull it off. The problem is, mainstream media productions are (understandably) geared towards profit making. For an extremely limited audience (the fantasy fiction crowd), it's tough for a production to generate enough revenue (let alone break even) to make the venture worthwhile.

It might be better for a writer to do a series of novels based on ESO lore and adventures, and if the series sells well, then consider making the books into a film - but be willing to put some serious cash into the production. Otherwise, it will most likely flop at the box office. The problem is, it's extremely difficult to translate a book into a film, and still capture at least some of the book's flavor. I have a few friends who work in the entertainment industry (one is a very successful script writer), so I know a little about the production process from conversations with them.

I think I'd prefer if they turned the film's plot into a game, invested the money elsewhere (like a new game) or just released books, which would be much cheaper.

Books I'd rather see. Game movies suck.

Funnily enough, books based on games do not. In fact they are often downright brilliant.

Books already exist and are canon, and somewhat referenced in Skyrim. The Infernal City and the Lord of Souls

Personally, given what we can see is achievable animation wise, in game trailers and cut scenes, and indeed with movies like Final Fantasy etc, I do not understand why there are not more high quality animations made. Sure we have tons of kids movies, but why so few 18+ actual fully developed movies (not just shorts).

There are numerous games and books that could spawn very good movies. ESO is one.

While epic battles that kind of follow the MQ are the norm for these movies, I think a more mundane story would be better received. Not toiling at a forge mundane, but say a group of adventurers that have to do some dungeons in a quest for multiple items. Seeing a few Boss Battles would be more fun for me than those large scale Trilogy of the Rings CGI battles we usually get.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    Uh, yeah....I think not.

The animations wouldn't sync with the sound effects, there would be load screens after every scene, and the super villain would die to something stupidly overpowered like a bee sting ROFL...
