What does evening mean?

Evening has several different meanings depending upon which part of the country you are in and which class you are a member of. So this gives us a 10 hour window of when you expect to be back up. Im really confused. Why would you use such an ambiguous term? For future maintenance use the industry standard of x hours downtime expected.

If I don't hear back from you within 128 hours I will assume the issue is resolved or that the company has folded.

Thank you for supporting the Elder Scrolls Online. I hope to see you in Tamriel!

Because they have no idea if or when they might get the server working again.

Because it could take between x and x hours to come back up, so they are not going to give a specific time unless it is early, or later, than what they would have projected.

If they said "The server should be back up by 4pm" and it wasn't, 10 times more people would be here complaining that the servers are still down.

And "evening" for most people is between 5pm and 7pm"

That is not what evening means everywhere. If you take evening to mean the time just before sunset, then evening for me goes up to eight o clock tonight.

If you use evening like people in the midwest use it then evening includes the early nighttime hours after the sun goes down. Even 10 pm at night would be considered evening where I am from If you live in southern states, they use evening to where other people would use afternoon. I don't think they even use the word evening at all on the west coast.

The point is evening is not a term that has an actual set definition. Now im going to get a bunch of people telling me what they think the definition is. But just because you have one definition in your mind does not mean that the rest of the country shares that definition.

This is why companies use a range of hours. If jessica Folsom thinks evening means between 5-7pm then she should be using 5-7 pm. And dont get me started on what early means.

No, this gives them a 10 hour window to bring the servers back up whenever they want and be able to say "Well, it's still evening!" :)
