its just a way to sell the expansion which is now at a reasonable price (50% off). It cant fail.

Not doomed to fail. Its more a self fulfilling prophesy, designed explicitly to succeed.

This and it would seem to be logically this as Zos is promoting sales of the expansion. Good idea they have.

A bit out of topic here but those numbers are good because you can try to infer some other relevant numbers.
It is a 3 months event (90 days means 129,000 minutes) targeting US$ 200,000.00 (a million dragons) and adds to it a few more thousand dollars in physical gifts.

It means Zenimax is aiming to get a few dozen thousand players to buy the DLC and a few thousand more to the base game.
It also means there are enough players to kill 7.71 dragons per minute.
Mind you that means NA, EU, and Japan servers in all platforms.

It sends a message to the market: We are healthy and wealthy. I hope the message to be true.

This is the second chapter they've done this with-- every chapter other than Morrowind, which was released before they started doing these events. Maybe it's something they're thinking of doing every year after they release a new chapter?

P.S. Despite how my message may sound, I think this a good event and I like that they have also added a good cause to it.

I agree with this. This is, probably, one of the best promo events to date.

How did you "work hard," to do nothing?

People said this during the summer set event, when you understand that the event is less about completion and more about showing how well off the game is doing you will know how it will end.

Bethesda and ZOS can have their fun, players can have their fun, and a charity gets the proceeds. Sounds like a win all around.

Exactly. Everything works as intended, and players will get their rewards anyway, there is no 'chance' of failing.
Same was with Summerset and Psijic Villa - just a fancy page with updating numbers.

Yep. As with the Summerset event, I assume that a marketing/psychology team pre-calculated the levels to hit each day, in order to spur hype the best, and have it finish. That's part of why it's just a vaguely-defined "percentage" meter - there's no actual numbers for anyone to see, so they can fudge it however they want.

Hopefully there are more players around now to participate. I say that because the Steam figures are up, and so the players who said the game was dying when the Steam figures were down will now presumably be celebrating the game's revival  !

So visiting the dragon rise web site, I saw what initially looked like amazing progress towards the community goals.
    7yice1k9vtbh.png
49% in two days meant we had till the end of the weekend before goal complete.

    Then I read this...
    squgpk3uyo8s.png
Seemingly innocent the highlighted phrase shows us that every pathfinder achievement since June has only added up to 49%. Meaning we have 9 days from this post to accumulate more then double the amount of pathfinders since June in order to get the sweet pile of loot.

Meaning we should tell everyone to hurry and get pathfinder or no one if it hardly counts towards the progression.

Correct me if anyone knows how it works and can give a better estimate of the completion. Because right now it appears as if were not going flinch the objectives.

The progress upgrades periodically on a daily basis or something. That gives the impression the advance has stalled when it really hasn't. It was at 69% I believe when I last checked and there is still 9 days left in the event. So we should be fine. Not to mention the whole thing is probably engineered by ZoS so don't be surprised if we're at 99% or something and then magically hit the 100% number on the last day of the event. :)

The community goals for the event really aren't what I would be worried about. The Charity Event on the other hand doesn't seem to be doin so well. Its possible they aren't updating it as frequently as the community event. But so far we have only earned 4564 dollars for the charity. Thats only something like 22,820 dragons in 3 days. Granted this charity goes til Dec 9 but thats still 3,803 dragons per server with an average of something like 760 players per server taking part in fulfilling the requirement of 5 dragons for every dollar. Hopefully come monday they update it and its a more impressive number.

If we earn the Pathfinder achievement on additional characters, does it count? Because I have 4 alts on NA and 6(?) alts on EU who don't have that achievement yet.

No, once per account per server

That would make sense! GW2 has had WB-kill events with community rewards and with the first iteration at least, the goal was met well before the weekend and there were people on the forums clamoring for more tiers and more rewards. Yet if they had added more tiers or otherwise designed it to be longer there would no doubt have been complaints from people claiming they “felt forced” to endlessly grind or whatever.
