My Mount Upgrade Ritual

Hello Forum folks!

I just finished another character last night...well at least grinded her to 50 and now the real fun begins (and no I refuse to pay for undaunted, mages etc...just my choice).

When I first started playing ESO I stuck with one character for a while before I bucked up and started making others (now I have 16 as of today between 2 different servers :)). Each one is special and has their own story.

Most everyone knows the feeling of the new character grind and how slow it initially may feel. Over time we all get a routine down grabbing mages, fighters, crafting a few training gear sets for multiple levels, etc... and then you're off to your favorite grind locations.

Shortly after my second character (which was a beautiful high elf sorcerer; I still adore her) I knew I had an annoying feeling that put me off to making a third. Then it occurred to me. Out of all the new what pis**d me off more than anything was my slow AF mount.

Now I know most mitigate that feeling with rapids but once you get half way or so through your grind you need that room for important skills/atls that must be leveled. From then on I started making characters months ahead of time solely to upgrade my mounts. Now I don't wait until fully maxed but a good even distribution between speed & stamina. This routine has put me at ease and if anything subconsciously I feel like I'm leveling faster (even though I'm not, lol).

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who may do this so if you do this too rock on! Nothings better than the day you finally reach your 60/60/60 B)

I tend to grind with new character a bit each day, then park them at a stable, while using any riding lessons from daily login rewards. I have 18 characters with 2 still leveling riding.

I normally get each new character to 10, unlock writs and then I wait until their horse is completely maxed to do much with them. 15/18 are maxed, the 3 slots I got with elsywhere are in progress and getting closer!

If you're on pc, there's an addon (I think it's called Assist Rapid Riding) that will swap out rapid riding on your skill bar when you mount/the duration runs out, and then swap right back to your normal skill when you use it. Super helpful!

Edit: found this forum post about it https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/397485/public-service-announcement-assist-rapid-riding Apparently Fast Ride works even better

    Yup

    Make new character
Park said character at a stable
Feed horse speed food every day
Rinse / repeat for 20 days
    Level to 10
Go to Cyrodill for Rapids skill
Character is now barely tolerable for leveling

Can’t make characters ahead of time on an unreleased class though.

True but I make the character on the day of release and don't play that character for at least 20 days because a slow horse is that painful.

Don't mind a slow horse really while leveing since I mostly solo PvE. The exception is when a stam char wants some alliance skills and needs to go to Cyrodiil. Did that on a slow horse once and, even with Rapids, could not keep up with the group I found running keeps/resources. Never again. Will not go to Cyrodiil without 60 speed. Only consolation is that the alliance skills are no longer as attractive to me for PvE after recent nerfs.

Oh, and just realized that lots of people really want speed for chasing dragons. After killing a dozen dragons and giving them a fair shot though, I concluded I don't enjoy them and ignore them now. Sympathize with those trying to race to dragon fights though.

It’s funny how we get into a set way with handling new characters. The only thing that varies for me is whether they are Stamina or Magicka based, which outlines some skill lines I try to get early. I always park all of them at a stable though.
