Slaughterfish need a visual warning

Been working on my Cyrodil fishing achievement recently and it's underscored just how annoying (and deadly) slaughterfish really are. I can understand they are meant to keep players from crossing certain areas and what not but they are strewn seemingly at random through-out rivers and oceans with no warning what-so-ever. It's incredibly annoying when I'm swimming around trying to discover fishing spots only to suddenly die out of the blue due to these ______ and then have to ride all the way out there again.

A developer somewhere may have thought this was funny or something. But it isn't. It's just dumb and irritating. If there is a good reason why there isn't a visual cue or something indicating where these little ____ are hanging out I can't think of one. So please, add a visual graphic or something to waters infested by these aquatic killing machines so players know which parts of the river and oceans to avoid before it's too late.

They do show up when you're in infested waters. But it's not easy to see, and it doesn't help when you look at a body of water trying to figure out if it's safe to go in for even a second or not.

I’m pretty sure there actually is a slaughter fish warning at the river by ad gate... also, it’s a safe assumption that all oceans in the game have slaughter fish if you swim far enough out. The river around imperial city has slaughter fish so people have to use the bridges. Pretty much everywhere in Cyrodiil should pretty much be assumed to have slaughterfish tbh lol

That's not sufficient. They did over 64k damage to me before I could even turn my character around. It's absurd.

The problem is you don't have to swim far out though. You can be swimming up a seemingly innocent river then suddenly there they are out of no where. Plus all the foul fishing spots in Cyrodil seem to be along that river you mention.

I haven't been able to see it, so you aren't kidding when you say it's not easy to see if there actually is one. Considering how deadly it is - they should make it easier to see I think.... the equivalent of saying don't go there in bright neon lights.

Yeah nah it's just some fishy shadows.

As some have said, it's really fine if it's in a place where you can take 2-3 ticks and so can turn around after the first and be safe. It's when there's no room for reaction time that it's a shame. There's spots I'm Cyro where you make one misstep and you seemingly drop dead the moment you hit the water. That said, I can understand if we're expected to learn from those missteps and just know better next time.

Edit: Ive thought about it and gotta admit it would actually be pretty cool to have a river where the calm flow is replaced with splashing and hungry fish just bouncing around ready to devour you.

I'm of the mind that Cyrodil is treacherous enough without expecting us to memorize which parts of the river are safe to swim in and which one's aren't.

Frankly I just don't see why they can't warn players where they are with an easy to observe visual cue. That would seem the decent thing to do in my opinion.

Yeah it would add a nice touch to the environment on top of warning players so they don't just die instantly out of the blue simply because they swam in the wrong part of a river.

    Don´t swim around.

No, I mean, seriously - why are you doing that at all in Cyrodiil? You can usually tell when there is a significant risk of slaughterfish - if the river separates two parts and there is a crossing elsewhere, that river is meant to be a wall. It´s not put there just for its prettiness.

This is part of the map design - they want people to use the crossings, the alternative would have been to put up invisible walls or more impassable stone cliffs. Slaughterfish are a way of telling you the game doesn´t want you doing that, and kills you for going there, and personally I find it funny and kind of inventive (I did NOT the first time it happened since I was RPing more back then and I hate getting killed when RPing. :(

Still, get a build with more hp and be careful + jump out of the water (I am not sure that actually helps but it seems like it) and you can turn around, usually.

In Morrowind you catch fish. In Imperial Cyrodiil fish catches you!
I think Imperials should make those caution signs at every local beach and fishing places: "Whoever drowns will never swim here again!".

It's not just Cyrodill. If you're wandering around a coastline anywhere at all and come across a bit of rock sticking out in your way, you never know until it's too late whether it's safe to swim around it. There are places where there are small, inviting islands that look like they should be explorable, but oh no, and with no time to swim back either.

I agree, some kind of sign. I like the thrashing waters idea above.

Well, there's an easy way to determine when it's safe to swim in Cyrodiil: Never.

There are a few isolated lakes that are safe, but those are the extreme exception. If you can get to your destination without getting your feet wet (no matter how inconvenient that route may be) expect to die horrifically when you step into the water.

I just fished in Cyro and I can 100% agree that there is a Warning at the AD River. It's a note on a Tree near one of the Saltwater Holes.

Generally, it's known that the Water around Imperial City is full of Slaughterfish, honestly died a few times there myself while fishing because I got stuck.😂

Else, you will just have to try out if the water is Slaughterfish Territory or not. Easiest way is to stay at a low water spot, walking a step in it (and then out) to see.

Technically we do get a visual warning being it is not instant death. Just turn around as soon as you start taking the damage.

For Cyrodiil I think it is the wider rivers. Either way this has not seemed to have been a big issue. I am sure you will figure it out.

Depend a bit, if you swim to far out you can usually turn around

Think damage is higher in Cyrodil however. Assuming this is to not let some builds being able to cross.
And you do not need to swim in cyrodil to be attacked. Getting your feet wet can be enough.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

This^. Avoid swimming in wide rivers (under the main bridges, around Imperial City, and near the ocean outlet) and ocean water and you should be fine.

ZOS actually moved some of the ocean holes, so it's far easier than it used to be. Back in the day my friends and I would have to heal each other across slaughterfish infested water to get to a couple of the ocean water holes.
