Its really funny how there were so many complaints in the past, and then it turns out that the grass is always greener on the other side.

You've seen Wrobel man... He was hated. He nerfed everyone. He caused Morrowind. He... was a hero. He was the one stopping Wheeler from getting his hands on combat lead spot.

We should have listened. But really, who could have imagined that Wrobel was the good guy?!

And yet nobody comes to the obvious conclusion: give us a year with the new guys after Wheeler and Co. eventually leave, and we'll be eulogizing the golden days with them too.

    Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

None of them. They've given up on the PvP MMO they originally set out to make and want to cash in on people who like to dress up their characters.

I don't think anyone from the original "PvP MMO"-team is even with ZOS at this point.

The old team made mistakes, then the new team came in and are also making mistakes. It's subjective of course, but in an ideal world a very large percentage of your playerbase looks forward to updates. If players are dreading updates due to the impact on their characters, that is a BAD thing. It should be avoided at all costs, but I don't think any team has really had that as a concern. Balance is good. Balance at the cost of the good will of your players is bad. Finding balance without annoying your players is a skill that is rare indeed and none of the teams have been able to do that for an extended period of time.

I don’t like any of them. When they created the game they seem to have no direction or frame work for expanding the combat systems both in the horizontal and vertical realms for years to come. They maintain a trinity combat system but violate all of the input/output principles of that type of system, which leads to imbalances and only far end spectrum builds to be viable in the game. For example, stacking as much damage or damage reduction as possible in a single build.

They have spent years on reiterations of the system wasting both time and money that could have gone to actual expansion of the combat system; if they had created a solid foundation in the first place. In five years, all we have got is champ points and two classes. Five years for just that, and even then, those have problems.

Then there are other things I don’t like, like how dps is the only “fun” role. Tanks and healers are basically only there serve dps’ needs. With tanks your job is to basically hold crap in place, or pick up the crap that sucks to hold, or stand in the stinky gas, or stand in front of the projectiles, it’s always some unfun job. One that the only reason dps cant do it is because it involves taking massive damage. Which is why there is a shortage of tanks despite only needing one or two in most cases.

And pvp all the detrimental “aura” like tank sets have been reduced down to a point where as tank the only jobs you have is stand on the flag, stand near the ram, burn the hostile siege weapons, and work the friendly siege weapons. And even then dps can do those roles, so you have really no unique role or feature as tank other than herding potatoes for dps to explosively mash.

I don't think all of this is entirely new combat team doing.

Just look how they behaved at ESO live about U24. They didn't sound like somebody who are proudly presenting their new vision. They looked like they were sent to present somebody's else half-baked clueless ideas. My tinfoil hat theory, ZOS/Beth leadership plans for ESO is to turn game into plain and casual PVP game, where classes or even skill lines will be mostly decorative and players will just swarm in numbers and pew-pew at each other with small personal responsibility for overall result.

Veterans will hate it, newbies will probably like it for a while, but too bad another part of "somebody's else" plans is minimal investment in hardware, so they need to "optimize", i.e. squeeze all they can from current equipment, coming to even gutting abilities which put high load on server.

I work in IT/telecom for 10+ years in "combat" team. This ESO live looked exactly like situation where we are sent to customer to present/sell some sh**ty solution which will be pain in the backside for customer and for us, but seems profitable to new top manager.

    New.

Old combat team was massively reactive to player complaints and performance. You could literally tell what was going to get curbstomped and what was going to get buffed by virtue of forum posts with absolutely zero respect to the system they had originally designed. If you failed to notice this, then you actually just suck at basic unbiased attribution. This is not to speak bad on Wrobel and Co, it was blatantly evident he had neither the tools nor people to handle the herculean task that we were demanding of him - he did his best and should be vindicated from the hate and vitriol thrown his way over many years.

New team is infinitely more proactive and have a clear and distinct vision in front of them that they are working towards. Which is exactly what the vast majority of self-affirmed forum juggernauts have been outright crying for. Now that it's happening and those same individuals are imploding, you can get first hand experience at seeing why self-affirmation isn't confirmation.

The new team doesn’t listen at all
    Eg. Ult cast times
    Dots on scale pts
    Incap silence

Old team made me quit. Came back 2 years later and they had done some QoL improvements but that's about it. At least the new team is trying things out, making changes and collecting data it seems. Just to bad it's like playing a beta again.

Put Mike Finn in Wheeler's spot.It is quite obvious Wheeler has absolutely no clue about pve. Before anybody says it would not give a rat's ass if Fin n never touched pvp.Would be leagues better than what we have now.

Since august old players quit ESO massively. Next patch me and all my friends will do the same. Enought is enought. This is the worst patch i have ever seen. But maybe it's the solution ZOS found to fix EU server : "let the players stop playing our game". Genius !!!
This nerf of DOTs etc is epic crap. Instead of trying to fix your game with all those bugs & crashs you waiste your time to kill your game.

    No contest.

I think they care about the game and want it to be fun and run smoothly, and that's what they're trying for within the constraints of budget and staffing they don't get to choose. I have some philosophical differences with their vision, but at least trust they have one.

And I don't know if it's Wheeler's orientation or Rob Garrett, but for several months now there's been a noticeable uptick in trying to give players more of what we ask for. I greatly approve of this (even though one of those things was the 30 day campaign faction lock).

So far I hate this patch. Don't @ me and spare me your salt cos I'm not happy rn either. But yeah, I like this team.
