5 Stages of Patch Note Grief

From one that was there, it was a three stages.

Anger - unannounced changes sprung on players spurred this stage.
Resignation - players unsubbed and left in droves.
Denial - those that did stay never saw it recover to it's former glory.

Those that do not remember history are doomed to repeat it.

Every time ZOS releases the Patch Notes for a new update, I'm very amused by the predictable cycle the Forum posts follow like clockwork. So rather than a Bingo post like I did for #Nerfmire, please enjoy the "5 (Forum) Stages of Patch Note Grief" for Scalebreaker!

Please note: this is not intended to encourage, endorse, dismiss or insult any of the following behavior, only to register my amusement at the predictability of our ESO forums.

You don't reach acceptance in general as you normally leave the game at stage 4

I laughed at your choice for transgression, but sadly, I was expecting something like "Repeated trips through this cycle often lead to creating one final insult-filled dumpster fire of a Quit thread on the forum, resulting in moderator action and numerous requests of "Can we have your stuff?"

Because that's also something that happens a lot around here. :frowning:

This post is a text based downvote in response to yours.

    Sorry?

The 5 stages are my interpretation of the predictable cycle of forum posts that happens for every PTS patch note series. Unfortunately, one of the inevitable endings of that cycle is that some posters do transgress against the forum rules in their mounting frustration. Some players leave with a whimper, others leave with a bang.

That's not pleasant - and indeed this whole cycle when seen on the forums in action isn't very pleasant as it involves a lot of genuinely upset and frustrated players some of who do leave the game for good - but it is something I've seen in action over two years worth of PTS patch notes.

I'll admit the humor here becomes a rather dark comedy once I think about the actual players.

What a bunch of idiots. Do you ever know how many players left the game forever when shields change came? Once full pop AD & EP side now 90 percent empty most of the time. At least EP is night capping, but the population is a drastic decrease.
Wait until the next game. This is the last game semi-successful game for ZOs mark my words. Many are playing only because they spent money on solid PVE content. Otherwise no one will give a ***. Some playing for streaming money.

What is the total population of PVP content? Barely 1000 on average? I see most are empty except CP monthly. The imperial city is totally empty. Has it ever got increased?
That is the level of standard of this game PVP. Most max CP players in AD will leave forever for sure. Please ask ZOs for payment for this post. It's interesting, but the real fact is different.
You cannot defeat the law of meritocracy and balance. ESO cannot stand like Wow or Final fantasy as an MMO which lasts more than a decade and still have some healthy population. In the long run, people lose out once reached max CP and enjoyed most PVE content. You cannot put a race and class behind a paywall. Its garbage BS. The game has to properly balance.

In ESO PVP is only AP farming. Everyone knows who will win the campaign even before it starts.

Coming to the PVP population I see a drastic fat decrease in the PVP population. Many PVP players switched to other games altogether, when shield changes came out. Just remember the player's names who played with you one year back. If you didn't see it then you are a liar. I do see it and felt it. Once I complete all PVE I will quit too. New expansions are not worth the money.

Also, ask ZOs for more money. Sometimes selling with lies is too difficult. You should be paid more. :D Already ZOs should have learned the lesson from fall out that no one is eagerly waiting for their games anymore. If not it's sad for them. It's sad how they went from nowhere to the top in last decade, now slowly becoming a laughing stock.

And yet the game have more players than ever. These patch notes are not the end of ESO. Most players will stay and adapt. Everyone got nerfed (yet it's pretty funny to see sorc recieving some nice buffs and nerfs while magblade gets only nerfs), not a big deal.
    Say no to Toxic Casuals!
I am doing my best, but I am not a native speaker, sorry.

"Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game." - @AlexanderDeLarge

Forum is all about the venting and without anyone trying to bring atleast a bit of dark humor on all of it.. it would be so much more worse.

We shall all survive it together once more. And all in all it is a great patch, huge changes so huge emotions.

This is exactly like the patch i`ve been saying will happen based on what everyone was asking here at the forums. Told many times THIS will happen and here it is.

Good thing for me is, that all of these happened at once, making many things i hate on it actually like exactly because they happen all at once and make everything different and not just individually problematic. It has good stuff that needed all the changes in it.

9/10 patch notes. One of the best ZOS ever done. Few adjustments and best patch to this game ever. I know it is hard to see it if looking it and wanting to play after it as always before, but.. it makes things fresh. Time for things like Springs spam is over. Praise the Divines! :)

I'm actually walking these days. I don't think my car is worth a horse :3
I'll see the changes to the classes HoT and the new circle of protection.

Even inside my trial guild, people have different opinions about that. I personally hardly see how healers will be able to solo heal half a group during the Lokke HM DoT following the beam, for example. I think we may see a change in the set used, cp distribution (on DD), and a shift of synergy sources from healer to DDs, more self-healing too.

Is the new design worse than what we already have? I have no idea. We could debate about the legitimacy of changing core gameplay elements after such a long time, but the new state itself isn't bad, it's just too suddenly different from how we play the game right now.

The changes to restoration abilities, I like, especially to Regeneration! I've also been looking for an excuse to use rapid regeneration *and* illustrious healing.

What got me the most was Momentum and Power Surge, and how very short of universal *non*-PvP-gated stamina self-healing we are.

I can't help but think that it might have something to do with the PvP funnel, since Vigour was improved, especially the Resolving Vigour morph. I may even yet farm it, that'd be 140 BG matches of pain (across ten chars) to get the 98K AP each. 280 matches, if I wanted my stamblades to have it, but leeching strikes is still pretty good.
