They're nerfing aoe DOTs less overall than they're nerfing single target DOTs (reduced by 50% and 63%), so after all the latest nerfs are counted, they can say that aoe DOTs will end up "mirroring the damage of their single target counterparts." At this point in the crazy, things that are mostly nerfed by 33% are considered to have gotten off easy.

That crappy explanation doesn't excuse them 100% contradicting themselves.
