I like to play as the developers intended their art to be played, in its purity. Good along with the bad, its a journey we share together, a beacon of hope in an otherwise cold and indifferent world.

    Also, PS4 ftw!

Part of the reason why ESO absolutely SUCKED for me in the beginning was a lack of QoL the addons provide. Sure, if the devs can actually provide they qol then why not, but they rather spend time for new dlcs of course. Why bother when addons are working just fine? There is only going to be outrage if they stopped supporting a perfectly fine, perfectly helpful, and perfectly freaking needed system to help them do their job.

This game is designed to support addons for PC. Without them, the developers would have to compensate. Not happening.

No. My add-ons are QoL for me and without them I don't think I'd enjoy it.

    No Mini-map= me lost 24/7.

    No markers, etc ..urgh.

For me, they make the game enjoyable by removing annoyances.

Addons are a terrible burden in this game because they affect gameplay and performance so much. Yet, the default UI is insufficient.

I wish ZOS would analyze the most popular addons and incorporate those features into the client -- Advanced filters, MM, Srendarr, etc...

I avoid addons wherever I can. Making yourself dependant on 3rd party software and changing the game from the way it was intended/designed just doesn't sit right with me.

Of course there are exceptions. Homestead OCD and furniture catalogue are just too good to pass up if you like housing. And if you want to do some serious endgame, just hearing the audio is often not enough to do all the mechanics correctly the way you are expected to.

Sure- I played for months without them and only realized how much different/better things could be with addons.

My one question for people who play without: HOW DO YOU FIND THE CHESTS IN MALABAL TOR?!?!?! Before I got the HarvestMap addon I was using the maps online for console players and I was convinced that they just... didn't exist. Couldn't find a damn one since they tend to be extremely difficult to see and get to...

Yes. I can do without. I didn’t have addons for a while. I could do without the ones I have. I still think Raid Notifier is... Suspect. Do they design dungeons with the knowledge that we’ll have a raid notification telling us what’s happening? I mean the information and text is right there. It’s not like it’s a hack, it’s just revealing information that is already available. It just doesn’t feel “pure” lol
Especially the “dodge now” add-ons and other private addons in pvp. Those are unsportsmanlike, imho.

God no, I run 3 guilds and they give us no tools to work with. Now if they built these addons into the game, Shissu, Master Merchant, AGS, ATT, etc etc etc then maybe i would. I feel sorry for console players that have to play without.

I wouldn't quit playing all together, but I know I would play a lot less or have long absences. All the great addons make the game so much more interesting because the normal UI is so basic and a lot of helpful data would no longer be easily accessible. I would just do the new quests and story lines, then move on to another game. I would probably drop ESO plus because I wouldn't play enough to justify it.

No, certainly not. The add-on boogyman being the root of all evil while ZOS rolls out new features not many ask for and ignores serious problems with the game is infuriating. It's like the corporate manglement policy is do as little as possible to keep customers happy and *** em if they voice that they are unhappy, we just need more subscribers.

    No.

The basegame user interface design is atrocious in terms of a complete lack of usability.

I suppose it's fine on a purely casual, "playing a few hours a week" level. Or for RPing, or something else like that.
Although even for a casual player, the interface lacks some crucial usability features, such as sorting by item quality or quantity.

But for someone who has multiple characters and plays regularly, the game is virtually unplayable without at least a dozen addons to cover up the enormous gaping holes in the extremely minimalistic basegame "usability".

Never mind that the guild trader system is ABSOLUTE 100% TRASH (from a buyer's perspective at least) and TTC is the only thing holding this piece of crap together to a sufficient degree to make buying things less of a huge pain in the rear.

My sympathy goes out to console players, since they have to put up with ESO's poor user interface design on a daily basis. :/

Edit: the recent multicrafting changes were a step in the right direction... but that was merely one step on a journey of a thousand miles. :|

Minimap, Inventory Insight, advanced character stats, a much better, more useful UI, and a built in guild sales tracker should be in the base game too.

But ZOS wouldn’t ever give QoL options like that because it doesn’t make them money

Yes, because I play on Xbox and I don't have pop-ups all over my screen telling me when to block/dodge/purge/etc...

Seems like it would take the fun out of the game for me and I'd be as entertained as George Jetson at work pressing the button when it tells me to over and over again. Another reason why I'm not impressed by any YouTube ESO "celebs" videos.

This. I play on PS4 and I didn't even know that a lot of PC users used those types of add-ons until I came to this forum. It makes the battles require so much less skill on PC when you use those add-ons. I can't believe people actually use them. Having something tell you all that makes battles way too easy and boring.

I've actually seen some PC users scoff at us console players, and they said we had less skill than them. I'm flabbergasted at that attitude since so many of those people use add-ons that tell them everything in a battle. It's truly unbelievable. It actually requires far more skill to do the battles and other things in ESO without add-ons, whether you be a PC user or a console user.

It's also ludicrous to see so many people say they wouldn't play the game at all without add-ons. Seems like you don't like the game at all if that's the case. And that really saddens me. I understand QoL add-ons, I'm all for that. But there are many add-ons that are just plain exploiting and cheating too. What a mess.

Since you obviously have not tried such addons, don't make assumptions about how easy it makes the game. There's indicators when to dodge or purge or whatever in the game regardless of addons. So unless you play without UI, effects and animations, you don't know what you're talking about.
