DOTS: You Reap What You Sow

Let’s consider some context and history.

The game morphs and changes for the sake of change. Sometimes fairly. Sometimes unfairly.

1. People complained about one type of dot, being bleeds. The damage itself if stacked, would require a player to go full melee and apply it right in your face. Just remember the player has to walk up to you and the counter is to kite, control them through crowd control, blow them up from range before they get to you, etc.

2. ZOS listens to player feedback and lowers bleed damage in one patch. The complaints still came in.

3. ZOS listens and gives everyone access to high dot damage. Bleeds mechanic which is initially designed as a tank killer is completely reworked to function just like another dot. All dots in the game now can tick for 3,000-5,000 damage per second. The dot damage for each skill is increased and now the ranged magicka dots do just as much damage as a melee stamina applied dot... and they all function the same, only difference is application from range or melee

4. Everyone gets access to the dots and they all function the same, but that’s still not enough. People are still complaining, even though the counter is to wear more resistances and slot a cleanse or run with a healer.

5. ZOS will capitulate and lower dot damage next patch. Healing hots will stay the same. Just remember, they were increased this patch.

So what is the net result?

Everyone in PvP is wearing more heavy armor and are building more tanky than ever before just to survive long enough to be able to click on the purge button and enough time to get in a few counter punches. Also, the one go to tank killer was how bleeds used to work, but now it’s just another dot.

These players will be even more tanky with higher healing tool tips, without the old bleed mechanic to worry about.

So you see what happens when people refuse to learn the counters to initial game design? Sometimes the complaints on the forums are valid. Sometimes they are not. It’s up to ZOS to make that judgement.

In the meantime... can we please get some consistency in terms how our characters function patch to patch?

Consistency? No. You already explained why not: change for the sake of change.

Its been that way since One Tamriel embraced Horizontal Progression.

This is what happens when there is no strong vision from the dev team on how they want the game to be, but rather react to a vocal minority that complains X = OP and needs to be nerfed. The game has a set release schedule, so it appears that there will continue to be large changes due to the release cadence. I would prefer more frequent smaller changes, but that is not the current direction of the dev team. I don't envy the volume of workload they have with having to release new content and put in large changes with every update.

Instead of looking forward to exciting new content every release, I dread how I am going to have to grind new gear and skills to maintain my current level of performance and standing in end game activities.

I still don't have a problem with DoTs, and still don't slot them. Am I reaping yet?

Bleeds had a problem. Instead of being tank killers, they killed everyone. If ZOS really wanted a tank kill mechanic they should have bleed dots tick in relation to resistance. More armor, more bleed. Instead, they turned the game upside down. Minor changes are not what ZOS does.

Imagine if ESO didn't have horizontal projection like other mmorps. Then you'd have to grind each update because all your current gear just became not end game. At least in ESO all your CP 160 gear is somehow relevant.
previously @HaruKamui but I outgrew my weeb phase (probably)

The forums did none of this . Decisions about combat are not decided by public opinion with ZoS .

More likely a combination of forum, class reps, and streamers.

You have to remember people complaining about bleed being too OP does not mean people advocated for an increase in DoT damage. A decrease in bleed damage would’ve served as a decrease in bleed’s power instead of an increase in all DoTs to reach bleed’s level of damage. Simply speaking, it is definitely the team’s fault for deciding to make DoT damage as unbearable as it is right now. The healing change resulted in their own DoT damage change and you’re also speculating that healing will not be affected next patch. So basically you’re assuming a lot of stuff that we can find out tomorrow after PTS notes are out anyways.

    2. ZOS listens to player feedback
I agree with all you have said, except for this part. ZOS does not listen to players. They either do things at random or they only listen to those 5 - 10 class reps - which brings us to another problem:
We as players have absolutely ZERO warranty that class reps will deliver our pain-points to ZOS in the same way we provided our feedback (because of various reasons, such as bias, "I know better" or "I am elite player" or "I dont like X class etc")

So if for example we say that some niche play style / gear / skill ulti needs a buff, class reps might simply "filter it out" as in their eyes it is ok and should be niche and not used. WW is a good example.
