Vykosa:Would be interested in Vykosa's helmet, I've PvE tanked a little in the past,
Picked up the shoulders once with an Undaunted key. Recently started up the tank again,
Curious how the 30% dmg reduction would work out.
On holiday, so no chance to buy anything from my AP. Better luck next time.

gatekeeper13 wrote: »Vykosa is supposed to be useful for lowering bosses strongest attacks and protect your group... May be good for some trials but personally never found any use for it in dungeons. As a Templar tank I have the Solar Disturbance which gives Major Maim for 14 seconds (if i remember correctly) and not just 3. Plus the 15 sec cooldown is too much.
It would be better if it had, let's say, 10 secs cooldown and 5 sec duration. Or ZOS better scrap the Major Maim and give some unnamed resistance debuff like Alkosh's. That would put the set back to the map.
Sure, it's a set for very specific uses: To mitigate a few very hard-hitting attacks. If you wanted to apply Minor Maim, you don't need a five-piece set like Knightmare for that. You just use Heroic Slash. Or Dark Talons. Or Thurvokun. Knightmare is a waste of a five-piece bonus, most of the time.
Vykosa provides Major Maim, i.e. it stacks with the Minor one. Taunt is a given anyway, and with just a bash, you can mitigate a lot of incoming damage from dragon breath or other special attacks.
You don't use that set throughout random dungeons.
@Kell:
If I'm not mistaken, a minor and a major of the same effect are stackable, I do use heroic slash, so for once every 15 seconds, if a taunt and heroic slash are kept up, for 3 seconds I can plan a 45% mitigation. Don't want to pretend I do know a thing about tanking, don't even know if it would work on every boss, but it is an entertaining thought.
Like Varana said, it would be for hard hitting attacks, It might end up as a swappable for specific bosses, or indeed as a curiosa in the collection.
EDIT: Varana already mentioned Major and Minor being stackable, proper respect where respect is due.
Glad to have confirmation!

Main point is there's better ways to apply maim, as you both agree. My example was just that. An example. If I had a choice between Knightmare or Vykosa, I'd choose Knightmare every time. The point stands...waste of 5 piece or not, I'd still choose the 5 piece.
Also to the point the set isn't comparable to the difficulty of the dungeon it's placed in wasn't addressed by either of you. Still great effort for a very situational monster set.
When you Bash an enemy you've taunted, you frighten them with a deafening howl, applying Major Maim to them for 3 seconds, lowering their damage done by 30%. This effect can occur once every 15 seconds.
Knightmare-
When you deal melee damage, you have a 20% chance to apply Minor Maim to all enemies within 8 meters of you for 5 seconds, reducing their damage done by 15%.

why is this so had for people to understand? When you Bash an enemy you've taunted, you frighten them with a deafening howl, applying Major Maim to them for 3 seconds, lowering their damage done by 30%. This effect can occur once every 15 seconds.

minor maim.
they stack, as has been mentioned, loads in this thread.
there are only 2 sources of Major maim,, this set and nova. and if you want minor maim, you have TWO other, besides the terrible knightmare set, options for aoe minor maim now, Deep Slash, which which is a 6 meter AOE and of course, Thurvokun, which will proc from damage taken, off cooldown. much better then damage done with knightmare.
As I said, it was an example.
You want to take it like I said it's the penultimate way to apply maim, that's on you and your lack of understanding what example means. Not to mention Knightmare applies to multiple targets, and not just single target with a long cooldown.
What's so hard to understand indeed...😖
We can argue semantics all day, still the worst monster set in game. I wouldn't call something with highly situational use at best "good".

what are you on about? they apply different effects. i am NOT saying "penultimate way to apply maim, it IS the "penultimate way to apply MAJOR maim" do you see the difference? you get MINOR maim from heroic slash most of the time. the set is the ONLY way to get MAJOR maim from an armor set. knightmare is a also MINOR maim. they are DIFFERENT. you can stack both of them if you want. so what you're saying makes NO sense, at all.

I'm saying it's a highly situational monster helm at best with a very low uptime and a long cooldown, in one of the most punishing dungeons in game.
I fully understand it's different effects. Fully aware they stack.
Changes nothing about what I'm saying above.
It's not a good set. It's something you might wear for a single mechanic in a single encounter.
As far as monster sets go, pretty lame and lackluster.
Having different effects doesn't matter.
Get it now? Clear? Or do you need to bold more words at me saying the same thing?

You have to taunt, then bash, all for 3 seconds of maim that you can apply every 15 seconds. (Single target)
A much better set to use for maim....

(All enemies in a 8 meter radius)
It's probably the worst monster set in the game. It's embarrassing how worthless it is compared to the difficulty of the dungeon it's acquired in.
