Hello guys,

i just want to warn you to get in the same situation as i did.
Yesterday i've decided to change my Dunmer magnb to Breton, using one of the 3 race-change token we got with those big race-changes some updates ago.

The race-change worked, but:
My skill-points, spent on the dunmer race-passives, simply disappeared.
Right after that happened, i opened a support ticket.
After some correspondence (with Carl, Daniel and finally Brian) iam just.. annoyed.

Carl wasn't able to even understand the issue.
Daniel told me to send a screenshot of my spent skillpoints, before i used the race-change-token... Yeah, but i have no screenshot, because i didn't expect something like this!!
Finally he told me, that they can't restore those skill-points without the screenshot.

After answering, that this is unacceptable in my opinion, and asking why Zenimax, one of the biggest player in this sector, is not able to comprehend what happend, Brian finally answered me:
For technical reasons it's not even possible to refund lost skill points.

The end of the story: i lost 9 skill points, because of using an item that's officially sold in crown store.

So, if you guys want to change your race, make sure to get a screenshot of your skills/skill points, in case something goes wrong.

Iam sorry, but i have no comprehension for this and iam just really, really disappointed.

Why not try to reset your skill points and reallocate them? That's what folks usually do.

Can support verify on their end how many skill points you had active beforehand and how many you have now?

Alternatively, can they roll back your character to before the bugged race change?

Surely there's a character-based tally that records your quests (that reward SP) done and shards collected? Otherwise you'd be able to repeat said quests and gain a never-ending supply of skill points.

Not surprised one bit that support were zero help, that's my 100% experience with them in the past year.

ZOS could send you a race change token, then you can change your race back to the original and reset your skill points.

Good idea, i'll suggest this to the support-team.. But i don't expect they'll agree.

Doesn't seems like. Or at least they didn't attempt to detect.

Wow, I am really sorry to hear this. I just went through an awful time too "WARNING: You May Lose Rank Levels". I lost my Alliance Skill Line Ranks for Assault and Support after a crash. Unsettling knowing we have BIG bugs in the game and there is no way to fix them when they do happen.

You have to "prove" it before they believe you or even need proof to take action? Just creepy! My situation I could prove with screenshots because it was AFTER the fact. What do people do when they're not clairvoyant and do not foresee an issue?

I would like to think that they could roll back your account to a backup on file prior to this happening to you. I will watch this thread because I am curious to see what your final outcome was and if others start posting the same issue has happened to them.
PC NA DC 4eva! I try my very best. If it is not good enough for you too bad! Playing off and on since April 2014 CP2009.

How strange...I've used all 3 of mine and have on occasion changed a couple others and never had the bad luck to lose any skill points. Must be very annoying since it sounds like they don't plan to rectifying it for you.

This is a good option if you're on PC. Use the addon to map out exactly how many skill points you are supposed to have then compare it to how many you actually have. If there is a difference, then support can more easily assist. If there is no difference, then the points disappeared but the method to acquire them also opened up again, allowing you to just go get them once more.

If your points are still locked into the old racial passives then there should be an exact difference of 9 skill points between Skill Point Finder and what you can currently allocate assuming you spent all your racial passive points prior to the change.

CS are so *** in this game. They could have easily just given you 2 race respec stones and enough crown points to cover twice your lost skill points to buy them from the store. Literally costs them nothing to do this and does not affect the economy at all.

This is the kind of thing that loses players and has negative PR.

They need proof that there was a loss in skill points. While the fix can be easy, if it can't be proven, you'll have people lining up stating that they lost this or that just to get free crowns, gold, etc. That being said, ZOS should have the means to check on their end if the points are "stuck" on the old racial passives which is what appears to be the case here. Them asking for a screenshot from the past is not a helpful solution though it would have been amazing if the OP had such a screenshot.

In the OP they do not explain how they determined they actually have 9 less SPs. They merely state that they SPs spent on the race passives disappeared indicating to me that the SPs were not spent on the new Bretton passives but that is by design. We have always had to reallocate those SPs after race change.

My guess is this is just a misunderstanding of how the system works vs OP actually losing some SPs. I suppose that is why CS has asked for SS since they would not be able to find any missing SPs as it is.

I do hope OP figures this out.

I can 100% ensure, that i've skilled the Dunmer passives - because this is my main raid-character since 3 years (every raid clear on vet/+1/+2 at least). After changing the race, i had the same amount of SP left as before (exact 4 skill points), but those race-passives from Breton were unskilled. So there was no refund of the skill points invested in the old race-passives, and no "auto-skilling" of the new race passives - maybe this would be in option in the future, because everyone will 100% reskill those race-passives.

    The end of the story:
Customer Supports refuses to refund those skill-points, and also rejected the idea to give me 2 race-change-tokens to change back to Dunmer, reset those passives and then switch back to Breton again and reinvest - even this wouldn't have ANY impact on the game. And it seems like they aren't even able to track, if somebody has done a race-change at all!!
I ended up resetting some ununsed skills. Much better than wasting the time to farm 27 more sky-shards...

What typically happens is those points remain spent in that tree after you've cured yourself. To get them back you have to go reset your skill points, but a while back they changed the way the reset option works. It used to just take your gold and refund everything. Now you have to hit that clear all button because you can't get to that skill tree to tell if to just give you those points back. Bit of a pain because you have to reallocate all your points, but it's unlikely that you're going to be running into this particular issue very often, so it's not a big deal.

Unless there is something else going on, I suspect that this is also what the OP needs to do.

If I were you, I would take a screenshot of all the skill points you have spent in every single other skill line, and then a screenshot from Urich's Skill Point Finder showing how many skill points you have in total. Let them see the math. And make them look at umpty dozen skill line screenshots since they refuse to look at your toon themselves.

Support is so bad sometimes. They refuse to help people with things that are clearly their fault at the risk of what? im not sure. Maybe they think they have to do this so people dont think they just give stuff away and then they get tons of people asking for stuff, but thats just stupid.

I've had issues like this with support. Like when I didnt get my eso plus crowns and they wanted a screenshot. Well xbox bugged out and It had no record of the purchase. But I didnt have eso plus one day, had $20.00 on my xbox, and then was left with roughly $4.00 after I bought the subscription.. Then I had eso plus but no crowns. So clearly I made the purchase, and clearly their system messed up by not giving me my crowns, but they dont care.

Zos support can be good but it can also be terrible. And thats sad considering people spend a lot of time and money on this ***. I can understand if its the customers fault. Like " I accidentally deconed this item". But when its their fault it should be a no brainier, or they should at LEAST have a department that can escalate the issue to search someones account to verify there was a bug or glitch.. The fact that they cant do that just seems like a lack of effort on the companies part.

All they need to do is to is to revert race change or just give you 2 tokens.
Rever to original race, remove skills, change to race you want.
My sugestion is to go to PTS. Make a character, put points in racials, get race change token-is 1 crown, race change- prove that points are lost. Have this recorded, sent video to clueles zos "support"
But they probably do nothing even then.
I have ZERO belive in them ,,,,
    Wish you good luck

Imo so sorry, I don't mean offense, but customer services around the globe are always populated by these fools that know nothing of the subject they are supposed to help with, but even worse seem devoid of any form of common sense. Unfortunately ZOS CS seems no exception, at least from what you tell me. Classic non-knowledge nonsensical customer support.

LOL "give me a picture of your past, specifically of something that is no longer there." Yeah, if I could time travel.

Do they seriously not have a system that totals up skyshards, quests, pvp rank, level and all else to backtrack what isn't allocated? Then you can just compare that number to see if it's higher than what the player actually has to prove some are missing.

More proof that they can't program ***.
At least they inadvertently admitted it this time.
