Why no built-in group loot monitor?

It's my loot in my bag. You have no business looking inside my bag. That's it, period.

If you do, and you ask for my stuff you wouldn't even know I had to begin with, you're not going to get it.

I have an addon that adds the group loot thing (LUI Extended maybe?) and I had it turned off for a while, but honestly, it makes me so anxious knowing that many others have a loot addon too. Even if I say that I need something at the start of a run, I don't expect people to remember that til the end, and if they get something I'm looking for and someone else sees it and whispers them asking for it, they're likely gonna get it. So IDK what to do. I personally don't care if people ask me about stuff they see via the addon but I can also see why it's super intrusive. I wish that NO ONE had it; as long as SOME do it becomes a great source of anxiety for me.

I HATE Sunspire, especially on norm. It's the most tedious, pointless, tortuously procedural waste of time and is by far my least favorite content in the game. Give me the Psijic quest grinding over FOUR ROUNDS of Nav taking off and making us run around needlessly, for example. Of course, the meta sets that I need for my magden and stamblade are there, and I'm quite serious when I say that I'll go several runs at a time without seeing a single piece from Lokk or FG drop that's not a Lokk lightning staff or FG shoulders. I was not able to even get two pieces from the Lokk DW set (ANY DW piece, even) before the meta changed, for example--that's two months. Anyway, ranting--if I pug nSS I've become rather shameless as a result; at this point I'd rather beg than face ANOTHER SS run.

In literally any other case though, I'm turning off the addon.

Well, I use the addon but NEVER whisper or ask for the gear directly.

And I've been on the receiving end of the endless whispers/mailing/following you around asking for a piece of gear that I wanted to keep.

I'd actually be glad if ZOS disabled that API at all.

Just post what you are looking for and wait if people actually want to share it.

If I'm grinding a dungeon for a particular piece, I don't want complete strangers whispering me asking for it.

I'm already annoyed with people who use the Loot Log or other loot notifier mods asking me for a piece I got that I was actually trying to get.

If I get a set piece I don't want, I will link it in group chat, otherwise it's no one's business what I got from the bosses.

Sounds like you have some issues if you get annoyed by someone asking. Just tell them no.

If, and i stress if, that is all that happened, that would be one thing. But several times I have harassed and hassled long after the dungeon was over about some drop I got. Even after stating it was something I wanted. One player I told him to hold for sec, then deconstructed the Divines BSW chest piece, and sent the mats I got.

Luckily, most people do not use this addon.

Zos had a UI more inline with what most MMORPGs have but during testing due to TES hard core fans wanting the UI to look like the single player games. They decided with that to allow the community (PC only) to develop addons to fill out the rest of the UI.

Zos controls what data we have access to for addon purpose and with some handy addons they have added similar features to the game such as buff/debuff tracker and multicraft, but they will not add all because that requires more work than they are willing to do.

I'll gladly give away drops I don't need but someone else does but I'm kind of forgetful in checking my inventory and linking the stuff. I find the warehouse simulator part if this game excruciatingly boring and I try to keep my inventory as low as possible when visiting places where drops happen so I don't have to mind.

So let people know at start and have the addon too. (If you can take a no as answer.)

Edit: Maybe if you notice someone gets the thing-which-makes-your-life-complete just ask impersonally in chat like "Did the thing drop for anybody? I'm looking for one to make my life complete!" That should not offend anybody.

I`m pretty much the same, if someone asks at the start and is polite about it - i will give the loot at the end of the run.

But if someone just using the loot spy addon suddenly whispers me that they want the thing that dropped to me - then the answer is always a NO. I hate even more if they start trying to open up trade window even said no.

I dislike the loot spy addon with the same level i dislike people who harvest resource nodes or chests and take good stuff and leave things like Worms or lvl 9 sash of Health. Empty the node/chest completely. Please. :#

No because it's bad enough on PC with the add-on. I hate getting multiple whisper's for something that I don't even know I have yet. Stuff I don't want to keep I link.

Same. I had a person keep whispering begging for the gear, offering money. When I said no, they started sending mail and, since we were in a trading guild together, kept going to the zone I was in and "bashing" my character for almost 2 hours until the trading window closed.

I just ignored him but I can see how that would bother other people a lot more.

    No.

Just because on pc we have to deal with jerks spying on us then demanding loot we haven't offered, doesn't mean we should make it standard and inflict it on console too.

It's a great addon. I can't track who wants what in a pug group. I like that people can see my drops and whisper me if they need them. Otherwise it's a mess in group chat. If I don't want to share something, I simply say that I need that item and there is no harassment at all.

Same for the items I need. I whisper to the person who dropped what I need and if they say that they're gonna keep it, it's ok. Some people don't even pay attention to group chat and might not share what they drop at all despite not needing it, which is a huge waste. So asking that person is a great thing, yes it should be a thing. There is no harassment at all, that's just people spitting nonsense, just like they do about the dps meters.

Once I dropped a Blooddrinker dagger and I didn't even know that it's a useful set. I was gonna decon it. Dude in my group seen my drop and told me that he needed it. He was never gonna get it if that addon didn't exist. He told me he did dozens of runs and still no dagger. He literally gave me 500k, despite me not asking for anything. So he's happy he got his dagger, I'm happy that I got 500k for free, why is that addon a bad thing again?

It's a bad thing because your experiences, while positive, are not the only experiences people have. I play on console but a friend of mine plays on both console and PC. Someone in a mutual guild on their PC account used that loot addon and asked for some drop she got - I don't remember what it was. But she needed the drop and declined to give or sell it. Said asker went on to chastise her in group chat and then went so far as to bad-mouth her in their guild for being a "greedy c**t." The person was kicked out of the guild but the example shows you that not everyone takes "no" gracefully. Many people, as we've seen here, don't want others snooping through their loot drops for various reasons. That's perfectly acceptable. If they were to ever add such a thing to the game, it would only be fair to be able to toggle it off if you didn't want others seeing what dropped for you. There are people in this game who act irrationally after running content dozens of times or more without getting their desired drop, and I wouldn't want one of them harassing me for my drops that I had not chosen to share.

    No, please.

I've actually had to submit a support ticket because people in group were using this add on and would whisper me while in d a dungeon/trial asking for the pieces I just looted. After I would tell them to wait until the end so everyone could have a fair turn, they turned into harassment and even got kicked from a few instances because I refused to hand over my loot before the final boss.

Sorry people, I don't play into toxic/bullying culture and I never will. If you're a respectful and considerate player then I'll consider it.

It is not built in because it has to be completely removed from the game, not even available through an addon.

I hate that feature and it's obviously abused by trial plunderers that want an unfair advantage over people who don't have it.

ZOS has to stop this unhealthy practice. At least have an option in settings that allow people to have full privacy on their loot.

As long as people is polite...

I used a wish list addon that told me if the piece of gear dropped, and who dropped it. I whispered him after trial/dungeon ended, "excuse me. I need XXX. Is it of use of you? If you got it, may i get it, please?". I never got any rude answer. Actually, many didnt notice they looted the item i wanted. It wasnt a soiled loot, it was used.

Never had an issue and i consider it an useful addon.

There's nothing more fun than when the addon users spam me for my drops before I even know what I've got. Then guilt me for getting the thing we were all farming for. Whilst a few guildees use it and I don't hold that against them (because they leave me alone and ask at the end if they know I'm not farming for it), if someone in a PUG or farm group bugs me and I don't know them I will not give it to them. I have 2 spitefully-retained Ice Staves of Alkosh which I would have offered at the end but kept because people were blowing up my chat window with tells.

If people want to give it up, they can offer it up. Frankly, I think it's time they removed the API for that addon. The most vitriol I've received in game is from users of that addon who can't accept that maybe I need the gold Alkosh ring I got or the dagger of AY. There's no need for it, people post things they don't want in chat and give it up on first come first serve or highest bidder basis. Then all 3/11 other players get the same chance to nab the gear, regardless of addon.
