This Is Another Reason Why ESO Needs To Do Better...

It's crazy to see how many people can talk with each other and still miss the point completely... We don't care if this is a good comparison or not or your opinion on WoW and what not...

The OP is basically saying that ESO has a lot of things to improve to get to the point that it deserves, because yes The Elder Scrolls Online could be the current king of the MMO genre and not just for the pride but because The Elder Scrolls is the most amazing fantasy world ever created.

The most important thing to look at for us that love this universe is to seek what are the main pain points of the game and what can be done about it. To look at what could be some good ideas to make the whole experience even better?
We have to help the developers of our favorite game proposing our ideas instead of fighting each other to know who's right about WoW or some other meaningless debate...

The dev team is human they can't have the right ideas all the time or even know what would be better 100%, but if we help with feedback on the right topic instead of reacting defensively every time someone says that there's something that can be done better we can start to get somewhere ...

    Here are some questions:
-Why it seems that ESO has a hard time to maintain an engaged and motivated community? (They said it themselves: we have noticed that most people drop the game frequently)

-Why so many people are buying new expansion without doing the content or not for long?

    - Why it's so easy to drop a character that you have played for so long just because another is doing a little bit better even if you are not in a leaderboard guild? (let's face it, your attachment to your character plays a big role in your overall relationship with a game)

    - Why people that are not playing ESO have said what was their biggest turn off about the game? (everybody agrees with the fact that the content is amazing but....) What follow this "but" and how to address it?

Too many topics are about how to balance this and that or performance issues...and not enough about what are the things that would make the game so great that we don't care that much about those small issues that every MMO is bound to have...

Eso is infected with raidculture. As an elder scrolls game trials were likely the worst thing eso could of done. way worse than pvp. Not because of the content but because of the extreme mindset that comes with it. It starts to infect everything and you can see it plain as day in eso.

    That is pathetic

    Which bit is pathetic?

Also I'm watching these classic WoW streams and amazed at how buttery smooth the performance is. It's a very old game and ESO is prettier but it doesn't crash to login screen or send people into infinite loading screens or have obvious bugs as people are leveling to 60. I'm tempted to try WoW since a good number of my ESO friends jumped on the WoW hype train today.

Even the retail (current) version with updated graphics and animations runs 10x better than ESO. I didn't know what to do with myself with 200+ fps and 35ms ping

Even the updated version is still running on the same ancient engine as the original. That's like saying CS 1.6 runs great on your system. Well of course it does, it was designed to run on computers from 1999.

Server load is also much easier to manage on an older game when you're running it on modern servers.

ESO's performance needs to be compared against more demanding games, i.e. GW2, FFXIV, BDO, etc.

Like I said, WoW is a very old game. I played it a while back but have been watching streams instead of instantly jumping on the classic WoW train. When I played during BFA, the game had other issues.

Funny you mentioned FF and GW2. I tried GW2 last year, the game ran fine and didn't stutter even in PvP or meta events. And I've been subbed to FF14 since January and have found the game performance much much much better compared to ESO. Even though some servers have been DDoSed since expansion launch, the devs prepared well for everything. They created a third NA megaserver / datacenter with 8 servers in it before the expansions and instances in the new expansion zones were available and capped the number of players each to keep everything running smoothly. ESO has 1 NA megaserver and 1 EU megaserver. FF has multiple NA megaservers, 2 EU megaservers, and more JP megaservers. They also have separate Chinese and Korean versions of the game.

I would have not put FF in the same boat as GW2 and probably not included BDO.

FF, I have played, is more akin to WoW but made more recently. Each zone and server is significantly smaller than anything ESO has plus the graphics are childlike. BTW, the smaller servers is why FF can have so many servers. iirc, you can only have one character per server. That alone says much about the limitations of the design.

BDO has much less assets in their zones since it lacks much of the PvE aspect of ESO, FF, WoW or pretty much anything I have played outside of games actual PvP players would entertain.

I am glad you like FF. I really do. But it performs better because their design sets the bar low is so many areas.

You said compare ESO to GW2, FF and BDO. And so I did compare it. How long ago did you try FF? Because much of what you said is simply not true, you can have up to 8 characters per server if you have a standard subscription. They also changed it so you can visit the other servers and you can play with everyone from the same megaserver / datacenter. I hop on to other worlds to go buy from their server wide auction house and to participate in megaserver-wide hunts. 300 people killing overland S and A rank bosses then flying on to the next one is a form of overland content people do. It's all fine and it has never crashed on me once whereas on ESO if the other faction is near you in PvP it kicks you out.

The zones are absolutely not smaller than ESO. And we have flying as well as diving underwater. You're wrong and I know for a fact ESO has a much much smaller map than FF, and we even traveled to another world for the latest Shadowbringers expansion (which has really high reviews everywhere btw, and didn't go on sale quickly like Elsweyr did). Each expansion we get at least 6 new zones, at least 4 new 8 man raids with scaled difficulty from normal to savage to ultimate, we get 24 man alliance raids, at least 6 dungeons, and trials on top of that with hard and extreme difficulty, as well as dungeon type content for treasure hunting and PvP updates like new maps. We earn most mounts and minions in the game and don't have to deal with an in game store when we log on. The store can only be accessed from web browser under 'optional item' unlike ESO'S constant advertising as you log in to buy the new crown crates. FF also has working party finder and duty finder (game connects to other players like in ESO to form groups). Whenever there's server problems like DDoS issues, the close the server down for a few hours to do "emergency maintenance" and fix it immediately. Unlike ESO, where you have to wait until the next scheduled maintenance. They couldn't even get the ESO version of guild traders to work properly and see how many people asked for rollback on EU and we were met with silence. No GMs at all to contact and they stopped responses to forums unlike in FF where you can PM a GM or get a response from other support in forums.

That's fine you don't like FF, but you're flat out wrong about your information used. FF started out really bad but the devs took the feedback and they scrapped it all and it relaunched and it's a success now. People like me and a bunch of ESO guildies are coming in from retail WoW and ESO and GW to FF. I come back to ESO specifically in between FF patches to PvP when I'm done raiding and want a break from FF, but looks like there's not been any changes at all to ESO having loadscreens and disconnects. It's a shame because ESO's concept of overland PvP is probably the best one but it's ruined by game performance. ESO also has a good housing system, but again if I stay in the instance too long it starts getting laggy and I need to leave and reenter my own ESO house. TLDR - I've been coming right back to FF when trying ESO because ESO's performance has been straight up garbage. Especially in BGs and Cyrodiil. Don't have these issues in other games.

This one thinks you have made better points about this then OP.

FFXIV also has cross-save AND cross-play between PC and PS4. How awesome would it be if the game was available on Xbox.
