Question: Why does a full quest log cause lag?

Just a quick question: Why is it that clearing your quest log considerably reduces lag in certain scenarios? My best guess is that the pathfinding system is so costly that it either puts a strain on the server or simply has to make too many server calls so that it will clog up the TCP stack if too many people in the same zone have full quest logs.

Any better guesses?

    Good thing i am not hoarding quests then. Would like to see the source of that info though

    I've heard it often now and it made a noticeable difference in vcr portals yesterday after the whole team cleared their quest logs.

    Interesting. I never considered the correlation before but my character that has the longest “Requesting Character Load” message every day, the one who experiences the most lag and crashing, is the one with the perpetually full quest log. My main DK has just as much inventory, as much played time and as many achievements, but only a handful of active quests at any time, and doesn’t have near as many issues with load screens and crashing as my Templar.

    Easy. The game has to check on progress of the quests on each rezone so it knows where to put the quest markers, spawn the NPCs or Mobs, and run any necessary scripts.

    They did work on this so the game should ignore quests in the zones you are not in.

    It doesn’t anymore. Not for me at least. I find that guildies who are lagging are the ones with the most addons. They have trading addons, 5-10 map addons, and a whole bunch of random stuff. And usually not the best set up/knowledge of how to optimize their setup. It’s like they bring backpacking gear to a car ride to the grocery store.

    Free Port to guildies addon has to look up where every guildie is every time you change zones.
    Market addons are constantly refreshing
    Map addons, minimaps, harvest addons, etc etc all this requires communication.
    Then they usually also have chat addons, rp addons (emotes and Mount changers), and it goes on and on. All that on top of actually useful ones like raid notifier and buff trackers.

    If you’re on pc it’s either prime time or addons in my experience.

    Thats a good reason to play PVP - 5-6 Quests and your "Quest-Log" is full :) problem solved - oh wait PVP Lag... nvm rather go with full Quest-Log then ^^
