I am a level 26 sorcerer high elf. I want to focus on pvp.

I am having serious issues doing dps on pvp.
It seems I have so many choices with weapons, skills, armor and more that I am unsure what to choose.

What is a good pvp build to run in small groups of 3 to 4?
Should I go with heavy armor instead of light ?

Any help would be great.

First choose what kind of roll you want to play. Do you want to do damage with spells? Do you want to tank? Do you want to be support?

Next choose what weapons you want to use. Ranged with bow? Ranged with Staff? Ranged with class / guild abilities? 2h melee? 1h / shield? Dual Weild?

Now choose what armor and class abilities will help you do what you chose in 1 and 2 the best.

For tanking, heavy armor is good for health regen and armor. For melee dps/bow, leather armor is good for stamina regen and crit %. For spell dps, cloth armor is good for mana regen / spell crit %.

    Good luck!

There is no "cookie cutter" builds in this game. As they have stated in the promotions "play it your way". It is essentially whatever works best for your play style, and you are the only one that can truly figure that out as everyone is different. If you make a build off someone's opinion in this game then you are seriously missing the point on what freedom this game offers to make a completely unique character, designed around your own personal strengths and weaknesses.

I understand, just sucks that if I totally screw up my build, I have to pay out my rear to fix.

Want to make sure I get it right.

By the time you get to 50 you will have plenty of skill points to distribute if you believe you have made a poor decision. I myself would be more upset if I tried to copy another players build or opinion of a build and found out that it really wasn't suited to the way I play at all and I totally wasted those points.

It is up to you, there will be plenty of elitist *** bags that will claim they have the perfect build that will definitely try to push their "cookie cutter" mold onto you. In the end, would you rather the build you use be derived from decisions you have made based on your research into your skill trees or some arrogant teenage know it all that claims he is the ultimate player in TESO?

Yes, I agree and maybe I am worried about nothing.
The reason I switched for lotro to eso was for the freedom of building the way I want to. Thanks for for keeping my eye on the prize. Lol

lol overwhelmed by so many choices? What? This is the reason games have started limiting you to 5 or so skills on a hotbars and pretending it's some how related to strategy.

I think 300 points is the max you can, but there is more then 500 actually available in game to be gotten. Probably their way of making sure you can skip and miss entire massive areas and quests and still not have any worry of not maxing out.

I am 40 and have skill points just sitting there unspent...and that is with several wpn and skill lines abandoned, but you can always get more points.
I have around 95 pts total at 40.

A dev confirmed that there is not enough skill points in the game to get everything. Given enough time you can get pretty close.

People say that but there are always cookie cutter builds. I heard the Devs didn't want us to be able to respec at first. Do they even play this game on Twitch regularly or is this all theory crafting.

    How to create a character:
Ask yourself how do you want to play. Tank, heal, dps, a mix, up close and in your face, far away, a mix of close and far, stealth, stick and move, CC, support, etc...

Then look at the main class lines. Pick a class that has stuff you want. Then pick a race that compliments what you are trying to do, more magicka, health etc...

The rest (armor, weapons, guild) are available for all. Concentrate on one main focus. Mostly magic, wear 5 light pieces. More melee, maybe medium or heavy depending on how you play.

Throw all other games and concepts out the window and have fun making your custom class.

And don't forget you can always make a new character if you want to start over.

tamriel foundary has some theory crafting some and some hardcore min - maxing. BTW< you should NOT be PvPing at your level because higher levels have: more skill points, which equates to better passives and unlocked spells you don't have access to including of which mage guild ultimate and other unlocks. Better gear that have better enchants and glyphs - even though you are "buffed" to 50 - you really aren't. You lack the health because remember, every level you get to put a point into health (15) or 1 point into magic/stamina (10) - go with health btw if you are PvPing, etc.

So again. do yourself a favor - if you want to PvP - make sure to be at least at level 35ish - at least until you unlock all your skills you need - and you will see you have plenty of skills points (if you get all the skyshards in every zone too) that your build may not be much different from lvl 35 to lvl 50 - but again, you are missing out on 15+ health points for each lvl, additional passives, equipment set gear that give bonus, etc.

Bow is a fantastic weapon for sorcs both pve and pvp. The bow knockback shot that also cc's is already op vs melee mobs and even more so when combined with deadric curse and instant crystal shard procs and critical surge.

My bow setup, Deadric curse, Draining Shot, Crystal Shards, Bound Armaments, Critical Surge, Ultimate is Absorption Field.

The amount of cc you have is stupid. Heavy attack, knock back, deadric curse, repeat will keep any mob that can be stunned locked down except for that one split second where heavy attack, draining shot, and curse all hit at once before you hit them with another round. Doesn't matter how tough or how hard the thing hits if it can be cc'd you win.

For small groups you can rotate your cc and nuke them down while recovering health from crits and buffing your attacks and an armor buff that overcharges your armor value and also provides extra damage on heavy attacks, you also have an ult that stuns for 9 seconds lol.

Heavy armor is bad for sorcs, the armor buffs we have are all you need. Either use medium for weapon crit and stamina regen or light for magika regen and cost reduction.

As others have said, no matter what you use you will be squishy and hit weak in pvp, you can contribute cc though on equal terms.

I hate to say you are right...but I have learned the hard way that you are right. I have been getting my arse handed to me in pvp. I am 30 now and might just wait another 20 levels to go back out. I am not sure though. It is so much fun.

Except for morphing an ability nothing in your build is unrepairable with just levels and shards etc. IMO start with what feels right, get killed a lot... experiment with the new shiny thing that opens up, get killed some more... around 20-30 you should really get a better focus on what you are really liking and aiming towards.

I played beta and pre-launch and have changed my mind so many times, and run new experimental builds... it just keeps evolving but If I hadn't done all the playing around I would just be someone else's cookie cutter build IMO, so all the deaths learning the right build direction for me was worth it.

    My advice:
    • read zone chat, pick one of the groups going for an objective you believe in, get invited to it and stick to them like glue.
    • Follow party chat and directions
    • Travel in groups, expect to die whenever solo, consider it a bonus if you don't.
    • Accept you will die every-time you spawn, just try to make it last longer and longer as you level up, and you are improving your build and skills.

All this > skill builds at lower levels
