Having all sales history switched off - again - is also a real pain in the a***.

Think I'll go play Minecraft. No PVP lag. No trade problems. It's my server, so I know it works.

Even Microsoft haven't been able to screw that up yet.

Lol I was seriously considering taking up minecraft again also, in part to avoid these kinds of issues.

Yes this was a big bug but as someone else said it doesn't change how you level your character, how you RP, you doing a run of the two new amazing dungeons or any of the core experience of the game for 99% of players. Sure prices for some mats will rise and a few people will decorate another house or two but people are really overreacting about how badly this will break the game. I am sure the devs who generally do a wonderful job are aware of the problem and are looking for an ethical fix but it does become very difficult as by now the money train has long left the station. While another post or two from the devs wouldn't hurt, as long as this doesn't happen again next week we should calm down.

I don't agree with you on this but I won't bash you. People see situations differently and if we only want to take each case as a one off then, okay, give them a pass. If we want to start to combine all of the cases and realize that a lot(most) things are not fixed/functioning correctly then maybe it is time to start questioning the direction the game is being taken and how things are missed over and over and how every patch brings more headaches and less fixes than the last.

I was willing to give ZOS a pass for not having a fix/response ready to go Monday morning because I really don't expect too many gaming companies to call all hands on deck on a Sunday night, especially if they needed input from higher-ups.

But waiting over a full business day?

That's either going to be one very comprehensive reponse...or not very much of one at all.

I can appreciate you setiment but it feels misplaced. This issue to me is an online equivalent to watching your friend get swindled and then witness the offender enjoy the spoils while the authorities ignore it or pay lip service.

Sorry this is not a time nor an issue to just accept like sheep to a sheering.

i thought trading was one of the most fun aspects of the game. at the moment i feel like it's kind of ruined. maybe they'll fix the fiasco, and maybe not 100% but maybe it will improve. maybe they'll reassign traders to the guilds who actually won them. i'd be happy with that. but for me, trading was great fun. the quests...yawn. leveling up...that's cool. multiplayer...awesome. graphics, landscapes, variety...great. but i really liked hunting items, and coming across that rare purple piece of armour/weapon/jewellery with the perfect trait that i could sell for 20-80k. and now i wouldn't know what to do with it. i can't list it in a public guild trader because all my guilds lost their traders. well, maybe some kind a fix is forthcoming. if they don't do anything though, hmm. not good

Another perspective on this and literally every other situation with this game:

I don't understand how every time an issue or patch happens, everyone is off just days later taking flights and on a "work vacation" all while the issues stay stagnant, unfixed, and left in utter silence with the community left to pick up the pieces. They have so many other scheduled events for publicity rather than functionality, and while advertising your product is important, it certainly better be a polished product on more than just the surface. Priorities?

"We are going to be better at communication" -- :/

Who handles things when main management is out? Anyone? Nobody? It really sounds and seems obvious that they [BETHESDA] *need to hire more hands* at ZOS instead of pushing 1000% load on the current employees (just like they do the servers). For a AAA MMO, they have like what, minimal staff to handle problems at any given time? What happens when the employees crash just as bad as the servers do? There are already a few that have left Zenimax ESO team over the last few months (publicly announced on respective ex-employees Twitter feeds). I'm honestly not all that surprised at the silence every time there is a problem, they are over their heads and cannot keep up! ESO has very obviously outgrown it's team, time for an upgrade all around before the sky actually does fall for ESO!

Better to be proactive than reactive at this critical junction...

Being proactive is how I feel the dev teams need to be thinking at this point. It always seems like they have Plan A and Plan A only. There is never a Plan B,C, etc. when it comes to what could happen if the changes they implement break the servers.

What I don't understand is theoretically it's the same code used to update the NA and EU server. Why did it work in NA but not EU? It's weird.

EU was experiencing server issues with high lag at the time, while NA did not.

If I had to take a guess, it's more reliant on server load. Code is just a set of instructions, processing that code in overloaded situations will expose weaknesses you otherwise wouldn't see == breakage and bugs. Also, let's theoretically say the software is 100% bug free, if the servers are completely inundated with requests, eventually they will run out of either resources or computing power. Think of it as a server "blue screen" of sorts. The software and/or hardware panics, clears out requests for whatever is happening to make room for new ones, otherwise the entire server would grind to a halt. Swap over during busier times vs non-busy make a huge impact thus why PTS had zero issues because it's never truly under strenuous load. PC/NA wasn't under strenuous load during the swap, PC/EU was. The problem here is there is an blatant issue with the servers and possibly code itself, both of which need actual fixing and actual *load testing* prior to a live environment before any sort of reliability can be expected at this point.

The way I've heard it described, on NA the devs made sure that you couldn't buy a guildless vendor until after the flip had finished processing. On EU this was npt so, there only the usual I think five minute time gap between the supposed end of calculations of bids and when you could scoop up a vendor who hadn't been assigned a guild. But because of the massive lag EU was having at the time of the flip and quite likely the fact that culculations took longer than usual because of the multi bid system, a vendor that hadbeen technically won by a guild registered as guildless and could be bought by whoever was there. Some took advantage of that, getting a vendor for 10k.
Issue here? Someone scooping up that vendor and locked the guild in question out of getting any vendor for this week. Further it seems to have made an even bigger mess of computation by adding factors to the calculations, possibly what resulted in the multiple return of funds to some guilds.

Tl;dr it appears to have been a perfect storm of not very well thought throuh coding and a massive case of lag. Lag that had been going on for hours btw. But the fact that the devs appear tp not even have factored the very well known issue pf server lag into the structure and coding of this, really suggests they live in an ivory tower divorced from the day tp day problems plaguing the game. Ffs, it's ot like server lag, especially on the EU server, is a new pr unknown phenomenon.
Thr fact that all that had to be put into the code was a hard block from vendors becoming up for grabs until the calculation pf bids and assignation of vendors was completed shows how easily this whole clusterf!ck could have been avoided on the EU server too. This is absolutely something that should not only have been caught in a stress test, whoever designed this should have taken the 5 minutes to ask "What if the server lags out? How does the system handle it then?"

I try not to backseat code, but really? It looks like this was supremely avoidable.

ZOS are wrong if they think this another "one-time" incident and tempers will cool down eventually.

What's different this time is the massive loss of trust.
I didn't play yesterday because I was afraid of a rollback.
I don't play today because I don't know if anything I achieve today will be worth anything tomorrow.
Constant fear of another meltdown of the in-game economy isn't healthy for long-term motivation...
