Why would ZOS care about the quality of gameplay? The majority just play dress up and homemaker. So ZOS makes all their money from cosmetic crap and reskinned mounts from the sheep just buying it all up.

Those of us that actually play the game are stuck with what we got.

This. The game has found a new way of income, which is new overpriced decorations for houses which players can rent for 50 euro for as long as the server runs.

As long as people who live in a messy basement but like to tidy up their made up virtual crib Zos is doing great.

If you ever want to feel good about ESO's performance, play Otherland. Not only does no one play it, but the servers are in a continual state of desync and lag spikes. ZOS are absolute pikers at lag compared to that game :D

You know it’s pathetic when zos can’t even address the lag properly.
Their reasoning for canceling mid year was because of activity finder when Bg’s Make a small portion of the entirety of PvP.
I wish this company got exposed for the ridiculous things they’ve done.

If you think this lag is bad, you’ve obviously never played Barbie:Fashion Show Extreme Online. If you have more than 3 on the catwalk, it slows to a crawl.

Virtually no lag. DCs sometimes if ddos attacks, but runs perfect otherwise.

People need to stop buying things in the crown store and cancel ESO+ until they fix the performance issues. Absolute horse$#it that they can't dedicate resources to fixing basic performance but they can keep churning out the real-life money crown store garbage.

GW2 gets pretty choppy in crowded areas.

In BDO, I can ride through town without half the players rendering, but I guess that doesn't count as lag.

Cant play for love nor money today, cant swap bar, can't doge, getting CC'd 3 times in a row, hammering the same skil 20 times and it still wont fire.
Its so bad and, now i've logged out cuz' its done my head in.

Anyone know of any other games / "premium games" that Lag like this? i mean, this is seriously detrimental to the health of the game and i've never seen anything like it,
Is this an acceptable standard ?

If i didn't have so many achievements and rl money invested into this server i would move to NA.

Yeah, LOTRO and SWTOR lagged just as bad (even worse).

WoW is really the only game I can remember playing that could handle large scale PvP without significant lag. Which is ironic considering it's one of the oldest games out there.

It is extremely annoying when lag hits you while you're getting "CC'D". Being unable to move on this game is basically an instant death sentence.

This is typically what happens though when a game opens a cash shop and the corporate overlords take over. The priority is no longer to provide the smoothest game experience possible but to make as much profit as possible. Upgrades to their servers are weighed against costs. And considering they probably make most of their money selling reskinned mounts and cute pets sever performance is likely no longer at the top of their priority list.

I remember back in Vanilla WoW days, we renamed IronForge to LAGForge. You did everything you could possibly do anywhere else in the game so that you did not have to visit LAGForge.

Rift back in the day also had 60 man - 3 faction PVP that wasnt always a lag fest.

Most MMO games that I have played were basically unplayable the first few days after a major update due to lag and other technical issues. But hey, you came to expect that.

Part of the problem is that not everyone is experiencing the performance/lag issues to the extent that you are. I'm a newer player, I live in Colorado in the US. I play on the NA Megaserver. I dont PVP. I'm a PVE player that at this point is just doing solo play, i'm trying to decide if I want to participate in end game trials or not. For the most part, I do not notice any in game lag most of the time. I have started to notice and pay attention to the un-lootable corpses, but beyond that, I really don't notice lag/rubber banding like I do/did in other MMO's. Similar to other MMO's the lag seems to be there one day, and gone the next. It's not a constant all the time thing for me. So from my experience in the few months that I have been playing ESO, the game is very playable. As long as there are players like me out there that do not think the game is "unplayable", then we will continue to spend money on our entertainment choice.

IMO if everyone were to stop spending money tomorrow and everyone canceled ESO+ as you ask, I really don't think that ZOS would do anything for addressing performance like you think they should.

After that database upgrade they did around the patch before the elsweyr patch, we've seen things slowly degrade. I've never seen a game charge for it's monthly subscription services, while providing this level of service, but that's not saying anything, who am i?

But, something in the back of my mind wonders where the rubber meets the road with these megaservers. I personally haven't been able to find any technical information on how they work beyond some math concepts used to design them.

Maybe the issues are some indirect impact being felt from the controversy that surrounded bethesda, and fallout 76. ZoS is bethesda's parent company, after all.

I don't know if they qualify in some people's views but Elite Dangerous and Destiny both lagged pretty bad quite often. Neither used central servers, P2P interconnections between player instances for most of the game. Funny watching other ships in ED as they would rubberband all jittery like in supercruise. In Destiny you'd pass through one map instance to another and either freeze or watch a group member freeze while you wait for the map to load. You'd also see other players jump in front or behind you from time to time.

Neither game supported large player instances so maybe they don't qualify as massive but being always online you had to deal with network lag. ED at least had a solo mode where you'd have little to no lag, unless you had to load into another instance, kind of like wayshrine loading screens.

Agreed. Also, you need to appreciate that so far as those players who call the game "unplayable" are concerned, most of them are actually still playing the game. I've long suspected that more than a few are using such complaints to justify in their own minds canceling their subscriptions. To my mind, the definition of whether or not a game is unplayable doesn't change according to whether or not you're paying for it.
