Disable sending gold through mail

Here's an idea to kick around, and one that I think most people can discuss rationally, pro or con.

ZOS could temporarily disable sending gold through mail, for however long it takes to address the gold seller/bot problem. Players who want to get gold to alts can bank it. Guildies can already easily travel to one another to do in-person trades. If gold sellers are reduced to having to set up guilds or meet people in-game to do trades, the problem suddenly becomes much easier to resolve. I doubt many who don't buy gold would object to the idea, given the benefits. Yeah, it's a bit of a pain, but worth it if it stops gold sellers, particularly during early days of the game when the economy is getting its footing. The only real con I can think of is inconvenience, but it would be much less of an inconvenience to me than all the gold seller spam and bots.

    +1 Support for this idea!

Except what if you are like me who has friends and family who you are much farther into the game then and you send them gold to help them out. It's not a very logical move seeing as it would do more harm then good because then MORE of those stupid "guilds" will start popping up and the chat will be nothing BUT spam. I mean if the GMs and devs have this much trouble dealing with ONE spam bot, imagine how bad it'll get when others release their own spambots.

Guilds popping up are much easier to address than individual spammers. And it wouldn't stop people from giving gold to friends, it would just be a minor inconvenience (having to travel to them, which isn't much of an inconvenience if you're in the same guild). I don't know how phasing affects it.

At any rate, just an idea, and it wouldn't be a permanent one. I just figure right now they're in the early stages, where a lot of people are deciding whether or not to sub, and it's a huge problem. If a quick fix could take care of it for a couple of months while they get the resources and systems in place to deal with it on an ongoing basis, it may be worth doing.

It would be circumvented by crating gold selling pseudo guilds or using Cash on Delivery option to sell one iron bar for million gold.

I think the pseudo-guilds would be very easy to address. Not sure about the CoD option - that's an interesting approach. Seems like that sort of thing complicates it enough that you'd cut down on it quite a bit, but I'll have to think about that one.

    Agree with the highlighted 100%.

Whilst I agree that something has to be done about the gold sellers, taking such drastic action would do more harm than good.

    The way I see it...

    1. People need to stop being lazy and start earning the money rather than buying it from these people (no market = a stop to this stap).
    2. The recruitment of GMs who are active ingame.

Perhaps it's just me, but I remember a time when GMs were "active" Members of the Community, engaging in chat and policing it where necessary...

However the trend we have nowadays, is that you don't hear a peep from them and when I submit a report I'm left with a generic response.

Preventing gold being sent through the mail would not necessarily deter sellers/buyers from successfully trading gold between each other. The seller has a real life financial incentive to get the gold to the buyer, so the extra two minutes it would involve to physically meet and trade will not be seen as overly burdensome.

In my opinion the only people who would truly be inconvenienced by this would be the social groupings within the game i.e. friends, family, guilds etc as well legitimate mercantile trade with crafters and gatherers.

Not particularly, if you have a guild full of gold farming bots/sellers you can delete the guild and bots but then on of those could be an actual person and will open a ticket in turn having everything returned to them. And if they stop spamming the guild name and instead make an auto reply with a guild name in it etc etc. Also I somehow don't think that travelling to someone in a different faction works as I haven't found a way to ash mountain from daggerfall yet.

This would eliminate any ability to sell things legitimately outside the guild stores.

    No.

Could be. But there's more risk for the seller having a toon with a bunch of gold, that could get caught and banned, going around meeting people. I don't think it would be a big inconvenience for guilds, but it might be more of a problem for friends and family. I don't know. Personally, it wouldn't be much of one for me, but others may find it more problematic.

I agree it isn't sustainable over the long term. I'm just thinking of an instant fix that could be used for maybe a month or two while they figure out what to do about the problem.

Until MMOs stop trying to have a player based economy, there will always be gold sellers. It is in almost every game with some form of currency.

In previous games, every single attempt at blocking gold seller revenue streams just hurts players more. Remember they do the same things regular players do to make money, but for 24x7 and with multiple accounts. You cant harm them without harming the legit player base too.

People are lazy and will use cash to buy gold, and no matter how easy you make it to get gold or how many threats you make to ban them, people will not change.

Best way to get rid of them is to either get rid of the player based economy (IE just buy & sell to NPC, just like we did in every other Elder Scroll game before) or have ZOS sell gold directly to drive them out (which would drive out the competition, but then lead to whining about pay to win)
