Would you participate in an annual 'Purge' -like event?

You could just park a character in your own home the day before this was to happen.

Park all your characters at home and you can still get all your mail.

No. Because it would be nothing but griefers that suck at PvP so they would use that even to attack players not even trying to PvP.

It would work fine in a PvP game but not PvE based game like ESO.

You mean imagine a ball group running around Deshaan hoping to find one other player to jump. There are no choke points in those zones so the players will be scattered. Players wanting to do writs or other daily activities would probably take the day off if there were no safe zone.
Players are not going to be hanging out around wayshrines waiting for you to come gank them. It would be boring and most the PvP'rs would return to Cyradiil or battlegrounds after a bit of fruitless searching of victims.

It would be interesting to see all the players who dident get the memo and come blindly into chaos. Yeah most would likely just log off and come here posting WTH threads but still I feel there would be enough people to pillage for 1 24 hour period.

But it isn't, and has never been a PvE based game. From it's inception the game has been designed for both. This continues to be true today.

Think you made a typo there.....

Yep, they sure are. All the pvpers who cry because they want pvers to gank. Every "pve Cyrodiil" thread eventually ends up with pvpers admitting they don't want a pve cyrodiil because they would have no one left to gank. Only other players who could give them an actual "fair fight". Which they don't want. [refer to the post about killing the pvers turning in quests at the last event]. Poor pvpers only feel good when they can gank and grief, apparently. And the ardent, passionate pvpers don't understand that some pvers don't really care about getting killed; congrats, you killed me, you da uberest leet evah, now please get out of the way so I can finish this story quest.

I never said I wanted to gank anybody.
And since when are PvE players incapable of defending themselves?

Even PVP'ers just want to do writs sometimes.

Now if they had an event where Cyro was PVE and PVP got moved to Bleakrock Isle or something for a week, that would be interesting.

PvPers have one region dedicated to them and a broken Battleground queue with an interesting MMR system. PvErs have literally everything else.

PvE by design needs more content. PvP is kept fluid by players changing tactics. You then have to react to the new tactics keeping the play somewhat fresh. PvE benefits from new content. PvP would be hindered by new content as it would farther dilute the players participating meaning less enemies to face.

you know, so many people immediately go to murder and meanwhile, i'm thinking - can commit all crimes, right? and none of it is punishable as long as its done within these 24 hours, right? TIME TO BUILD UNAUTHORIZED ADDITIONS TO THE PROPERTY AND HACK SOME BANK RECORDS TO GET RID OF COLLEGE AND MEDICAL DEBTS, YEAH! heck, hack away mortgage while we are at it!

like... there are a lot of other crimes besides murder, ya'll. why go out for some dumb thrill or revenge, risking your own life, when you can better it instead?

P.S. when WoW did their plague event which essentially enabled full scale world pvp that pretty much couldn't be avoided. i personaly stopped playing. I don't need that nonsense. oh it was fun at first, when you could cleanse and heal npc's or other people, but then it became full scale trolling and griefing event, and the only people that were having fun anymore, were those who feed on schadenfreude. as i'm not one of those people - no thank you.

I mean what answer did you expect from the mudcrab killers? :D

PvEers are as predictable in their rejection of PvP as PvPers are in their preference for unfair contests - which is the sole basis of the OP's suggestion.

    Pretty much this.

Most of those that purchased this game did so for PvE. That is great since that is the major foundation of the game.

I always find it entertaining why some who claim to be PvP players are so fervent about finding easy targets to grief rather than find quality targets that offer a challenge. I suppose it comes down to those who can PvP do. Those who cannot PvP want to fine soft PvE targets to kill and call it PvP.

This would be super fun! I've played another game that would have random "Dark Cloud" events that would make the entire game PvP enabled, except guild homes, and it was a riot.

There would obviously have to be some anti-trolling measures though, like a safe zone in a specified radius around Wayshrines, and maybe make places like Taverns and Banks neutral zones. Maybe even create "Bunkers" for our softer and more faint-hearted players, with quests that ask them to move supplies or something to aid other bunkers. Maybe give them better rewards for reaching their destination without being spotted and place merchants in the bunkers that sell speed/invisibility potions that only work during the event.
