Alternative Fixes to Power Extraction: Open to Suggestions

THE PROBLEM: PE has replaced SA as the Stamblade spammable. This cannot have been intended, which is probably why they're looking to fix it. The current PTS fix is quite a weak solution though, and PE is going to be in a bad spot again if this change goes though. This thread is intended to be a brain storm of alternative fixes that ZOS could consider. I'll start it off with a few ideas.

Option 1. Make it strip 300 weapon damage AND spell damage.

Option 2: Increase the weapon damage strip to be more than 300 (300 WD is not much to strip, compared to minor debuffs such as Maim... and Maim affects both stam and mag users. Yes, I am fully aware that reducing WD also reduces healing).

Option 3: Instead of reducing WD, making it apply a minor debuff such as Maim or Mangle.

Option 4: Increase the WD debuff from 8 seconds to 20, to match the Brutality duration.

Option 5: Make Extract/Sap apply Brutality/Sorcery even if they don't hit a target.

Option 5: Leave is as it is on Live (same damage and without the WD debuff) but increase the cost slightly. It should be cheap enough to use as an AoE spammable, but expensive enough that it no longer becomes Bis (or even close to BiS) as a single target spammable.

Option X/Y/Z: Comment with your own suggestions! :)

I really like your first option. It would give organized groups a reason to think about including a stamblade.

^-^ Yeah I agree, good point.

Power extraction was only problematic because it was doing basically just as much damage as surprise attack, even to single targets.

If they had just decreased the base dmg of power extraction to a more reasonable amount (PBAoE standard, which they seem to love so much?) and then have the ability's damage scale up (to a maximum damage of what the OP power extraction was doing) based on how many enemies it hits (like sap essence's heal, capping off at 6) it would have been perfectly balanced. Weak single target, but crazy good dmg when fighting outnumbered.

It was so nice to see class abilities being used instead of generic weapon skills. Wish they kept it the same.

As yet another option, they could model it after shalks, still high damage but with delayed hit and with utility. But then it woud have created problems with bar space of course, NBs already have their arsenal fractured into small parts, separate execute, separate sustain skill, spammable split into two parts... It was really a breath of fresh air when PE became a viable drop-in replacement for the gutted Surprise Attack. Was good while it lasted.
