Dolmens 2019, isn't it time to actually fix them?

There was a thread not too long ago here where someone was thanking a CP810 player for helping a low level player finish off a dolmen. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/483960/thank-you-to-that-cp810

Just because you don't find them challenging anymore does not mean new players feel the same.

As for the big Dolmen groups doing them of course they are going to be easy, any content with a large number of players tends to be easier.

If you up the difficulty of individual dolmens all your going to do is push more people into those big groups.

People grind dolmens for XP/Jewelry, gear, weapons and glyphs to decon to level the crafts/Leveling skill lines/Fighters guild leveling/running down bounties/using up the last bit of time on an XP Scroll etc...

I use them to do some leveling on alts but rarely bother with them these days, unless I see an active one as I am traveling and go to help the players doing it.

    No challenge

Let me guess, you made a new character, assigned 810CP to it, crafted some nice purple gear and weapons for it and now you are here on the forums complaining about how easy overland content is.

After how many years, Dolmens are still terrible.
    • No challenge
    • No effort
    • It's ridiculous how mobs die before they even appear on screen because of AoE spam.
    • Allows lazy players to do achieve things without having to try - creates a poor in-game culture

So you're only talking about the dolmens that are being attacked by giant farming groups, not dolmens in general. 'Cause, you know, not every Dolmen is swarmed like that.

Allows lazy players to do achieve things without having to try

And here's your real issue. You want to gatekeep that only certain players are "real". If they don't level in a way that you approve, they don't count/shouldn't be here/"cheated"/whatever. Sure. You have fun with that. /eyeroll

(and no, I don't farm Dolmens. Honestly, I find the giant swarms annoying, even if I'm just wandering through the area on other tasks. And I can't solo the ignored ones on most/all? of my characters. But that doesn't give me the right to point and say "You're doing it wrong! Stop that!")

Why do they bother you? You don't have to do them, there aren't that many of them and they are not mandatory or something. So why do you complain about something this trivial? They are perfectly fine as they are.

Most dolmans are pretty empty, apart from Alikr. Lately, when I’m running around gathering mats in base game zones, I frequently see lowbies struggling. I always jump in and help, and same thing with world bosses.

Maybe you never struggled with your very first character, OP, or maybe your memory sucks, but I remember what it felt like to be under 50 with no CP and garbage weapons and armor. I always was grateful to see a high CP player come along and save my bacon at a deserted dolman I needed for a quest. Yes, I did those 3 dolman daily quests for a loooong time while leveling. Dolmans are fine as they are.

Any content in this game I don’t enjoy, I don’t bother to engage with. You’re welcome to do the same. 😉

OP's right, the game should be designed specifically for his requirements.

The sad thing is the number of players who actually feel that everything should be catered to their own specific tastes, and if you don't agree with them they just throw insults.

in truth the problem is no one plays the game... yeah grind spots exist, and "dolmens elsewhere are ignored"... the ones ignored have sets no one wants, needs or use. but ya know, that's logic. if the loot is trash the content don't get done. the reality is because it's open world now, everyone can go wherever they want. that's fair. but there's no story progression anymore. earlier days you had to work the levels, THEN move on to the newer content. you had to EARN your gear, and your progression. now it's as good as handed to them.

so cheer all you want. but when all that is left is the useless healer that chases butterflies because he progressed on a dolmen run for your dungeon groups.... don't wanna hear you whine.... you were told here before, you've been told here again, and till it changes, the truth will continue to offend.

For the last time Dolems, World Bosses, Public Dungeons, and Delves are MEANT to be easier than other content. It is meant for people to easily farm gear so they can have viable sets to do harder content to get better gear. It is Meant also for the casual players and new players learning the game.

You want harder content go do Veteran Dungeons and Trials.

There's only one solution. Dolmen mobs take 5% less damage per player up to 19.

    That's like an NWO solution.
They had open-world group encounters that scaled with player count thresholds. More people = better rewards but mobs instantly got buffed.

They also had dragon encounters in guild strongholds. Too many people engaging the dragon and suddenly it was completely immune to everything.

Dolmens are not for endgame players so i doubt they get "fixed. Try soloing a dolmen with a new char  When i was new they were quite a challenge to solo and i was always happy to have a high cp player around helping me. Now they arent a challenge anymore but they served there purpose when leveling.

I came in here thinking about how sometimes the audio for Molag Bal doesn't fire off. To see the OP complaining that people are actually using overworld content and populating areas is just sad.

How dare anyone form groups and smash some dolmens. /s

    Dolmen difficulty is completely fine.

I do hope though that some dolmens get moved closer to wayshrines lol.

What’s with the ‘lazy player’ insults.. people can play how they want and if that’s dolem grinding so be it. And they are not too easy for new or low level players.

No one is forcing you to take part, go solo a vet dungeon or something for a ‘challenge’

OP is right ofc Dolmens need to be brought up to the standard of difficulty that dlc dungeon bosses and maybe even some trial bosses provide. How many times over the last few months have we seen overland content is dull and provides no challenge, updating dolmens and world bosses (again) would be a good start to providing more of what people seek, more challenging content that isn't behind a gated instance.

The dolmens in Alikr and the 3 starter zones are just annoying because there’s too many people farming them but the dolmens in the other zones are usually alright.

    I agreed 100%.

I remeber in the beginning was impossible to do such things alone. I remember me even die when i fight 3 mobs at the same time in open world....

I would suggest to zos remove the CP completly. They are account wide and they make no sense once you reach the cap with one of your characters at least.

I believe it has to be also a lot more easy to a balance a game for pve and pvp when you don't have to thinking in doing it for with and without CP.

There's nothing wrong with dolmens, just with the people whose idea of playing the game is to camp there the whole time and then complain about them.

You can disable CP points. I do. When I start a new character, I enjoy playing with the challenges that you just described in overworld content.

The only problem will dolmens, for me anyway, is the red static charge circles they put in to stop botters.
One could read this as you saying your botting was killed by this addition .. something I wholeheartedly applauded, sad it's not entirely effective .. just saying.

What is wrong with that? If they like it, they like it. Not your business how others enjoy their game, right?

What contitutes a 'lazy loser' though?
Someone who farms dolmens for the jewellery they need for their set?
Someone who does three dolmens for the daily?
Someone who grinds an alt in Alik'r?
New players doing them to level and clear the achievements?
A player farming them to try and get Daedric Lord Slayer and unlock the dyes?

They're not easy for new players with no CP, they used to be pretty much unsoloable in VR days, sure they seem stupidly easy to me with my maxed out CP and five years of playing, but new players join all the time and overland content is for them, not for 'leet' players. They don't need to be changed and I don't see how you can insult players for doing content.

There are dolmen circuits that get used a lot, because they're reasonably close to wayshrines, or provide wanted set jewels. There are others that remain mostly deserted, because they're too far to bother travelling there, and the drops aren't so desirable.

Tarring them all with the same brush doesn't make sense.
