Experience gain is too low from questing?

Hello,
This is not a complaining post - get that out of the way. I am going for "Tamriel Hero" so I have been fully completing every zone (except a few Dolmen) but when I got to the Rift, I was only level 37. How can I be completing so much content and yet be under-leveled? In every other game I've played when you try to be all completionist about your game, then you are usually over-leveled.
Is there something I'm missing?

Vikova✭✭✭✭✭No. If people don't do all of the quests in zones they often end up underleveled, as can be demonstrated by the myriad posts of people wondering why they are underleveled. The speed of progression is intentional, which is also why the people who rushed to 50 did it through AoE farming.2 -
If you aren't also getting all the explorer points, public dungeons, anchors, "world boss mobs", etc you are going to be underleveled.1 -
Gelston✭✭✭Yeah I am always down by about 6 levels when I get to the next zone. I completed all but like 7 quests in previous zones. This isn't a complaint though. Sorcerers are super easy and it gives me a little bit more of a challenge.1 -
RangerChad✭✭✭I am always up 1-3 lvls compared to the zone. Exp rations per quest are perfectly added to exploration and boss killing. Well done system.1

SexyVette07✭✭✭You need to do the starter zones instead of skipping them. Khenarthis Roost boosted me to level 8 before ever touching Auridon. After having done every quest in Auridon, I was level 18 or 19. Finishing Grahtwood I was 28.
If you do ALL the quests, youll never be behind. Im always several levels ahead.2 -
One thing I found is other players make a difference. You can run through many quests hardly killing anything. I play with my wife so don't quest without her. When she's not on I farm mobs. Actually killing mobs does add up.My Guild - Anvil1

I have done EVERYTHING up until my level, I am level 30 with 1035 achievement points from exploration, questing, skyshards etc. etc. etc.0 -

✭I'd suggest talking your time more in general then? Maybe more time just exploring and enjoying the game and not worrying about your experience bar? Maybe you need to take more time and kill every enemy you come across whilst your character's travelling about? Perhaps don't use any Wayshrines, and wander about on foot. I don't know.
From personal experience I'd say we're still leveling too fast. But that's just me, my character keeps out-leveling content in Glenumbra: almost level 18 and I've still a lot of Glenumbra left to explore to my liking. There just seems so much to do, which is a good thing of course

It's true. I spend a lot of time wandering around and picking up crafting nodes. As a result I also spend a lot of time in combat getting to nodes or because some creatures are also nodes of a sort. I've found the extra time that I spend in combat really does add up over time.
I've also found, in my explorations, that there are a lot of quests that are really out there in the landscape. This. I see so many people run through all the mobs to get to the objectives instead of killing your way there. Your losing alot of exp overall if this is you. Not to mention drops.1 -

Have you been exploring out-of-the-way locations, like lighthouses and off-shore islands? That gives experience.
Have you been reading every bookshelf you come across? That gives experience.
So far, I've been keeping pace, and that's skipping the Mages Guild questline (my Nightblade looks down on anyone who spends more time thinking than doing). Thete✭✭✭It does seem a shame that there isn't an abundance of content for the levelling. After I missed out (unintentionally) a small section of Stonefalls, I now find myself always on quests several levels high (which would be fine but for having to wait a good long while to use the quest rewards).
I now make sure to scour the map for every last quest before moving on, which is a little unfortunate.MMO PvE veteran looking for suitable guild:

Custos91✭✭✭I skipp most of the sidequests because the game is to easy if I am at the same lvl, and I have no problem with XP, add to the list: do the dungeons at least 1 time and look at Cyrodill, just like in oblivion there are quests too, and they lvl with you!Warden Main apparently... 7 Wardens currently, otherwise a healer of every class.
Mostly active in No CP PVP on EU, blaming the buffbot meta in pve.
I want to feel like I am saving somebodies life, not like I am carrying amunition for them...1 -

MysticAura✭✭✭Missing 7 quests is a lot to miss. You really do need to complete the areas before moving on. Both for experience, and not missing out on story. If you see a chest, pick it. If you've not explored an area, explore it. Get all your sky shards. Every zone I go into I'm above or at level, and I never have to grind to get there.0
