A 40% increased damage in light attacks??? this is a joke in an ULTIMATE! at least you can put some stun or increase the weapon damage a 5% while sloted!

Cheap, high uptime, procs burning light, and in aoe it lasts 18 seconds. Not to mention light attacks in PvE are one of the highest damage sources.
For PvP though, it is undeniably less useful than it was when it gave mitigation.
I don't see a good compromise. Then again, nova and remembrance are both great for pvp, so I'm not sure all 3 ults need be.0 -

Empowering Sweep- 75 ult (72)
- 6s base duration, +2s per enemy to max of 6, total max duration = 18s
- 6s to 18s of empowerment for +40% LA damage
- Minor Protection for 6s on cast
- 10% Crit Damage when slotted
- Helps proc burning light passive for extra 529 direct damage.
- 944 direct damage, 458 every 2s. 18s: 9 ticks * 458 = 4122 dmg over 18s
- 8m, 180 degrees aoe
Flawless DB- 125 ult (120)
- +300 DMG for 20s
- 3% Weapon Damage when slotted
- 1182 direct damage, 1323 dot over 6s (1323/3 ticks = 441 every 2s)
- 10m, conal aoe (assuming 120-150 degrees)
Can cast 5 ES's in the time it takes to cast 3 DB's, more ults = more sustain. Aoe feels larger. Dot damage is almost identical, but has the potential to last 18s instead of 6s. Synergizes with templar passives by providing extra burning light damage and minor protection, usually back barred to provide +10% crit damage and still get DB front bar for +3% WPD with shards/biting jabs front bar. Empowered LA for 6s to 18s. Best case scenario with 3ult/s and 72 cost and 18s duration = ult every 24s or 75% uptime on dot/Empowered, let's say average of 3 enemies hit = 50% uptime with 12s duration.Edited by MashmalloMan on July 17, 2019 5:01PM0 -

That's exactly why they changed it in elsweyr, there is already a defensive ult in the toolkit. Plus it does help proc minor protection if you had trouble keeping it active with anything else.
From the notes:
"The Templar has many Ultimates that operate defensively already in their other skill lines (Major Maim from Nova, Major Protection from Remembrance), and we found their toolkit for offensive moments wasn't being given enough opportunity. Back in Update 20, we adjusted Crescent Sweep to deal Magic Damage and introduced a bonus mechanism where enemies hit in a cone in front of you took bonus damage. We wanted the Physical Damage morph to also enable damage, but through alternative means. Now, the entire ability's duration will scale based on enemies hit, and will also grant Empower for the duration."0
