What is the point of playing MagSorc right now?

Everyone knows that MagSorc has been brutally nerfed in this last update. It was no longer that strong over the last year or so anyway. Agreed that at one time it was OP and needed tweaking, and this was definitely done. But most abilities have now had dps, healing and cc reduced even further, and drastically so. And you may as well forget about PetSorcs, who have had both dps and healing viciously slashed, thus rendering PetSorcs pretty much useless.

It's almost as if a part of the population have a vendetta against Sorcs, and ZOS devs have been taken in by the persuasion. I cannot think of any other explanation why a class should be so comprehensively destroyed.

So, does MagSorc have anything to bring to the table anymore? If you were compiling a PVE group, would you include a MagSorc? What will happen if many players abandon their Sorcs due to their current unplayability? What will that do to the balance of the game?

there is none with the reduced dps and survivability good luck getting invited to endgame vet trials as a mag sorc next patch stamina seems to be hitting harder and with reduced survivability sorc is a liability.

as far as PvP good sorcs will adapt like they always do I bet the first week after the patch goes live there will be plenty of moaning about nerfing sorcs and 1vX videos aplenty but unless you consider yourself in the top 1% I would just shelf the sorc this patch.

After much reading and analyzing, the way I see myself playing a sorc is to have two separate builds. One build will be focused strictly on aoe and one on single target.

All classes aoe got nerfed. Winged pet I think will go into the trash bin. Soooooo probably a few skills will join it but overall it'll be a similar rotation

WIthout the winged pet, with shields no better than generic ones, and Power Surge less useful than ever (since Degeneration can be run giving Major Sorcery), the sorcerer will suddenly be weak in survivability and utility. So ... pretty lame overall.

And by the way, which morph of Curse? The one that gives a decent single-target quasi-DoT, or the one that buffs one of the two significant class AoEs?

LOL! Honestly you are absolutely right. I am trying to justify keeping my Sorc instead of re-rolling into a templar. Sorc Boundless Storm and Streak are the most interesting skills it has left. Templar, on the other hand, has better shield, stronger armor, more interesting offensive skills and better heals. One look at most StamSorc builds out there is what will MagSorc will become. Guild / Weapon skills with like 2 class skills mixed in.

GOSH DARN HECK! I THINK I AM REROLLING :(

Some MagSorcs have already tested on PTS and still reach numbers about 90k, so the nerf can't be that big.

I still think MagSorc has the big advantage that you don't have a very complicated rotation and even if you totally f*** up your rotation, you are still doing a big amount of damage. Not to forget, that you are a Range DD, which has some advantages as well.

I don't think MagSorc will be gone from the raidsetup anytime soon (depending of course on the raidleader and the ambitions).

If ZOS wants sorcerers to be even more bland and boring then fine. If the PTS patch is what we get I’m probably going to main a magden for pve dps. Wardens have a theme that is so pretty and noticeable. Or maybe magdk or magplar. Sorcerers are just way too boring now. Only thing that will keep me loyal to magsorc is pet skins, which will probably never be added. I wouldn’t even care about lower dps.

Yeah, kind of this. Just watched a youtube vid of a 101k parse with a stam sorc. Want to know how many sorc skills the guy was using? 1. Could have probably easily replaced that one too. What is the point of having class skills if everything else outshines them. So frustrating. I want to play a class for class abilities not so i use LITERALLY the same abilities from weapon / guild. Feels like drinking a warm, flat Coke. Sure... it may be a Coke, but it tastes like brown water with WAY too much sugar.

    It's fun and easy.

I would prefer to party with other magsorcs.

That question is based on the premise that one is incapable of adapting to the changes, which might hold true if one isn't willing to change any aspect of their playstyle.

As long as players are willing to adapt I'm sure there will still be plenty of magsorcs completing a variety of content

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

the main issue here: PetSorc is OP in pvp. But there are also people that play without pets. And magsorc without pets are not in a good position and they nerfed them even more. If anything, they should have just diminished the difference pets make for a sorc in pvp. For example remove the max health passive, lower the burst heal from pet, make pets untargetable, so petsorcs cant cut line of sight and attack you behind their pets. Also Streak buff was really unnecessary, it is already very strong skill. It is going to overperform now. And also about the Force Pulse, it is defacto a sorcerer ability.

Nonesense... you got owned because you are just bad in PvP and wont admit that there are very strong players out there. Play as pet sorc against one of the stamina metas and then we talk.

And the fact that you say force pulse (a destruction staff ability!) is a sorc ability is a perfect example of talking nonesense.

They are currently the 2nd strongest mag class behind magplars. For how little effort it required to be decent in pve and pvp, it was over performing, esp that twilight pet.

Glad to see it's been nerfed and hopefully I'll see less mag sorcs running around with 1 or 2 pets taking up my frames

Wouldnt mind seeing this class being the lowest mag dps and being completely irrelevant

I'm sorry you feel like that.

I do agree about the pets when they are not unsummoned in town, especially the flappy twilight which drives me mad. It's one of the reasons I don't use that one. The scamp is lower profile.

However, I would never deliberately wish anybody's class to be nerfed into the ground and made completely irrelevant, whatever class it is. That's a pretty selfish and mean-minded attitude. I don't know which class you play mainly, but I hope no one ever says that about your class.

Here are my perceived issues with the sorc:

Twilight heals and does damage. You have two abilities taking up a single skill. So, the damage can't be too great and neither can the heal. Problem is that it takes up two buttons which could be occupied by better damage and better heal. To get the balance right in this circumstance is a tricky thing. Easiest way to accomplish this is by making it only take up one slot on the bar. Otherwise it is useless.
The Sorc execute starts at last 25% Granted it's a normal execute range but the ability is utilized so infrequently that it is borderline useless to have on the bar unless you know you will have a long boss fight or really tough trash.
Bound armaments is a freaking passive slot and forget.
Dps monkey doesnt do much damage while the healing dinosaur is blah.
Dedric mines is a great skill that will be impossible to maintain with the lightning flood and blockade resourse increases.
And finally, NONE of sorc abilities provide any kind of secondary bonus for a more intricate gameplay. Look at any other class. Each ability has at least one extra thing that they do. Sorc is just bland. Lower skill ceiling? Sure. But still bland.

I wouldn't mind the changes made on pts if they wouldnt have put several of our abilities into the dumpster. People pick a class to play the class. In it's current state on PTS, the sorc experience can be replicated on absolutely any other class with better results. Which begs the question asked by the op: what is the point of sorc?

The PVP Sorcs are strong and pets needed a nerf. for PVE,, the pets are pretty much sorc's identity and they have been nerfed so hard that they are not worth using in PVE vs other skills. So, the sorcs will supplement with skills that are readily available to other classes. As far as PVE goes (at least) why play sorc?

Mag sorc will be fine their mobility skill “bolt escape” and it’s morphs got buffed.

Sorc will finally be what it’s was meant to be a squishy glass cannon with high mobility. No more glass cannon face tanking from 40+ meters
