2h weapons now counting as 2 pieces for set bonuses?

I have been away from the game for a while(about 1.5yrs). I'm starting over on PS4(was on PC) and I recently got a VD set w/ 3 jewelry and a destroy staff. And I noticed that even though I only have 4 pieces, when I switch to the destro the VD tooltip now says 5/5 for the set? Was this changed at some point or just a visual bug?

✭Yes, thankfully this has been the case for a while now
2H and staffs count as 2 set pieces.
What this means is that you can wear two complete 5 pieces sets (both active 100% of the time), plus an Undaunted Monster 2 piece set (head and shoulder). This is the set up most folk run with (though there are a few other formats - EDIT - such as running with a Maelstrom Arena weapon, which can drastically improve damage output)
For instance:
Head: Zaan (monster set, vet dungeons)
Body: Relequen (trial set)
Shoulder: Zaan
Hand: Relequen
Legs: Relequen
Feet: Relequen
Neck: Briarheart (Wrothgar overland set)
Ring: Briarheart
Ring: Briarheart
2H Sword: Briarheart
Bow: Briarheart
This is just an example, but whichever weapon you are wielding, BOTH of your 5 piece set bonuses will be active all the time, as well as the monster set.
