Why no one will use Phoenix in PvE

Phoenix
OLD: When you die, you instead become immune to all negative effects and healing for 3 seconds. When the effect ends, you heal for 17200 Health and explode for 8600 Flame Damage to all enemies within 8 meters. This effect can occur once every 10 minutes.
NEW: When you drop below 25% Health, gain a damage shield that absorbs 10000 damage for 6 seconds and deals 12500 Flame Damage to nearby enemies. This effect can occur once every 1 minute.

Note for Phoenix, Eternal Warrior, and Immortal Warrior: The “self-resurrect” sets have caused issues where they underperformed in most cases and over-performed in very specific circumstances. We removed their self-resurrect mechanic, but kept the survival and defensive theme these sets offered as well as greatly reducing their cooldowns.

Phoenix had a niche: PvE no death achievements. It was literally used nowhere else in PvE. Now, it won't even get to "under/overperform" anywhere else because it won't be used at all. Its fundamental design was to protect you from death once which it will not do anymore in most endgame PvE content: getting to 25% should be an achievement in itself, considering in most cases, healers wouldn't let you drop that low (because by the time you are trying for no death, you have nearly perfected the fight). Most, if not all, end-game mechanics where you die is due to a one shot or rapid incoming damage because of a mistake you or someone else made: a 6s 10k shield is not going to do anything.

Edit: I know some people think it's a cheese set or whatever. Personally, I don't really care because I have most of the achievements with or without it already. My point here was the justification that it's "only useful in some places" is stupid...because now it's useful nowhere

Well it's 2 less sets that provide any usefulness whatsoever, when already 80% of the games sets could be deleted as it is and no one would care.

    Correction:
These sets were very useful in very specific circumstances.
We've removed that singular use they had, and condemned them to the trash bin of deconstruction material.

They've made these sets more boring. No idea why they aimed for that.

    Long post / story incoming...

I’ll never forget the first time I tried Phoenix. It was the very first IC anniversary event and I headed out the AD sewer doors. No one was responding to anything posted in zone chat so I decided to head to the sewer centers solo.

As soon as I jumped down off the platform two DC in stealth tried to gank me. I was on my MagSorc main at the time with limited PVP experience and certainly unoptimized gear. I remember panicking and just spamming shield while trying to figure out what the heck to do lol. I kited and survived against them for a few minutes hoping another AD player would leave the base and help me even the odds.

Sadly no such player ever came. They chipped my health low and I was able to get both of them low but neither party was killing each other yet. I think this was back when frags stunned and I remember that proc giving me some breathing room.

Finally they dropped my health to 0 and when the Phoenix set procced I don’t think they knew what was happening! As soon as I came back to life I capitalized on the surprise and hit a nice frag proc / pulse weave and killed one of the blues!

Finally, 1v1 time. Without his ganking buddy to share pressure this other DC didn’t put up too much of a fight. I was able to kill him rather quickly and I just sat there in shock for a second. It was intense as a mostly PVE player at the time to go up against two other players solo and come out on top.

And I wasn’t even using Phoenix for that purpose lol. I thought since well you get it in IC so it should help with the occasional NPC death and prevent tel var loss haha.

I know people thought the set was cheesy but it will always have a special place in my heart.

Thanks for the memories old Phoenix set, I don’t think your new design will produce anything quite like my story above.
