Playing Templar in pvp is like playing in hard mode difficulty

Was playing a lot with my sorc last month, cheesing/stealing kills with my Mage's wrath and almost immortal thanks to my shields.
Battleground become too easy so i tried going back to my templar. that was a bad idea.
Guess what playing templar pvp is like playing hard mode difficulty, only for masochiste.
*** this wracked templar class, only for healers and idiots.

I'm not crazy about it for PvP either and came to pretty much the same conclusion you did. It's for masochists. That or people who have a regular PvP groups to run with.

Don't try to play your templar like a sorc. They are very capable in PvP when played to their strengths.

    There's your problem.

Templars are pretty good and can hit for 10k (no-cp, against a heavy armor player) with Radiant Oppression... yes, 10k... Ultimate level damage, on demand...

They don't have all the endless shields, heals, and escape abilities that a Sorc has, but they still do alright when played semi-decently.
...just avoid Sorcs, it's a pointless battle.

I have 120 days of /played and 110 or so are on Templars... But in pve. When I took one of them to cyrodiil, I had to learn from the beginning, all but a pair of the skills in my bar are different, and the strategies are also very clashing too, at least for what I'm running. Having experience with Templar didn't help much, as I did better with my stamdk 2h/2h than with my Templar.

I say... Keep trying. Push through for another 20 hours or whatever. You may like it then. No promises.

I seem to do pretty good with Stamplar in Battlegrounds, compared to StamDK and StamWarden, or at least that's what I noticed when getting all 3 of them Caltrops. Stamplar was fun enough that I went back to do BG's for fun after getting Caltrops - something I hadn't done ever before that.

But yeah Magsorc I do significantly better on still, I'm not saying it's OP, but, it did get to the point that I'm considering other classes for BG again, maybe I'll go back to Stamplar.

I done something similar to this before that worked nicely.

Meteor>toppling>sweeps>beam if not dead. The delay in meteor allowed the meteor and toppling to hit at around the same time. Was almost a guaranteed kill

@Delparis only because Sorc is op. Templar btw too in pvp.

But try to play NB! I beg you, try it!

I want to hear you cry in pain. You will know what it really feels to be masochist xD only when you played NB.

Meh.. premade group with healer vs randoms. How boring.

OP is right, magplar in no cp is about as bad as magcro. At least if your not getting carried by healers.

magsorc is the top dog in pvp, magplar is roughly in the middle.
On a templar you have access to:
-Some of the strongest heals in the game
-Huge delayed burst in the form of purifying light
-the ability to shut down DoT builds by purging snares and DoTs as well as being the largest AoE snare in the game
    -ridiculous sustain
-Extremely strong cheap AoE burst ultimate

Im sorry but magplar is not hardmode, you are just accustomed to easymode

I have been playing my magplar since summerset as burst and glass oriented. It's incredibly effective in BGs. But...I had to give it up after new update since flare nerfs hit too hard. So I swapped back to my puncturing sweeps setup. Pariah, pirate skelly, regen set. I missed those big burst heals from the other build. So I had a thought

Playing my glass canon I REALLY got comfortable with horrible sustain and passive mitigation. So I swapped to full damage glass canon puncturing sweeps build. Its insanely effective.

I run 740 regen unbuffed, 4.8k spell damage not including spell strategist and I'm able to put down BIG boy damage that makes all but the best duos *** themselves. I rarely zerg (although I am guilty...) mainly at resources or alone against multiple players.

My advice is to drop all sustain, all defense, and learn to play with it. You will not regret it. It's the best way to really learn your classes defense, offense and opportunity windows for burst.

Also...crescent sweep, its AMAZING. Dont sleep on it. 16k initial hits against poorly defended 810s. It's really a great class. Although I'm still salty AF about dark flare nerfs...

As far as solo pvp play goes, everything i can do on my magplar i can do better on my mag sorc. Also i cannot do everything on my magplar that i can do on my mag sorc.

you can't play pvp without sustain and defense. templars need to give up on dmg in order to do that where other class got that sustain and defense built in their skills:
    • sorc got shields for defense (skills)
    • nightblade got cloak (skill)
    • dk got dmg mitigation (skill)
    • warden get dmg mitigation and shield (skill)

magplar can be as strong as magsorc, the thing is magsorc has way more easier access to better result, while on magplar you have to put in much more effort into builds and playstyle to reach the same result a magsorc reaches much easier
