Racial Motifs?

see people selling these all the time...nub question...but what exactly are these? briefly googled it, but didnt really find the answers i was looking for? hoping that the great community of ESO would help a "wood-elf" out =d

Usually you can only craft items in your own races style.

Those are books that you can use, and after that you can also craft the style of the race of the book (wood elf motif would give you wood elf style crafting)

They can be found inside every container that can also hold race specific crafting materials (e.g. bone, obsidian, starmetal) and are rather rare.
Those containers are usually wardrobes, cabinets, nightstands, desks and trunks. Level has no impact on your chance, just yesterday I've found a orc motive with a level 3 toon fresh out of the starting area.

Do the motifs carry over to alts? Or are they locked to your current character when you "use"[read] them?

oh...well cool! ahahah i havent started crafting yet other than basic enchanting from drops and book reading exp. should i save them for another crafting toon or just sell them for bank space/bag space/horses?

Only on the character that actually read them. Sadly.
I have used them all on my main. I personally feel that there are enough skillpoints to make a dedicated crafting toon superflous, but other people will likely feel different about that.

They are only visual eyecandy and have no impact on actual performance of the gear. So if you don't care for something like that sell them for stuff that actually helps you play.

hahaha yeahhh. well i mean i would chose a race to craft that race style...dont mind about anything else...and im not even running a good enough graphics card to even care about what armor looks like =d probs just sell mine! thanks for the help guys!

People are farming them to sell, tbh they mean little, its a vanity issue, all they do is allow you to craft a different style of item, and you can pick them up from chests, drawers, trunks and so on, don't be tempted to buy, i've got most of them already just playing and looting as i go along

Yes, I echo what Tiyamel said. Don't be sucked in to buying any, you'll basically find them all eventually if you just play the game as it was intended.
You'll even find multiples of the same one you can use for alts, or whatever you like (speaking as someone who found three bosmer motifs in succession).
