Never did like comparing myself to others and I never like others comparing themselves to me. I am here to have fun. I don't care what others have and what I have shouldn't be any concern to them either.

    No!

    It's intrusive and rude.

If it means that much to you, then just ask. But don't expect the answer you want if your target also thinks it's intrusive and rude.

Is this because ESO is too casual?

Go play every good mmo then.

So many ppl in pvp using op build hide it from public, and they all use the 'intrusive' argument, how sad.
    Time for some transparency.

Ok so you're saying that i need to ask someone to tell me his gear.
    1. That player may not tell me that gear because he's afraid his OP gear combo will be used by everyone
    2. Can lie and give a trash gear because he's afraid his OP gear combo will be used by everyone

Why should I ask for something like this where every other good mmo give it by default?

I think that the game is for casuals that's why. Only this kind of mesures are used in this case.

btw, people aren't idiot anymore as they can use addons for parses to show their dps. why can we have access to this but not gear check?

    That's not how this works....

ZOS doesnt let anyone see your DPS without your consent. Even Encounter Logs assumes everyone is anonymous by default and its not real-time. The real-time addons we have don't show anyone else's DPS unless they choose to share it.

In other words, you can guess another player's DPS but you can't know for sure unless they chose to share it.

Gear is the same way. You can guess their gear from seeing it in action, but you can't inspect it without their permission.

The DPS thing is specific because players were abusive with that info. The same issue comes up with a gear inspect.

Anyone can see your approximate dps without your consent. You don't need addons to see that stuff dies really slowly (or really fast) and what you're doing (for example, if you have a stam dd going through their full rotation and a magsorc spamming execute at 90%, you know who's underperforming). Procs and effects from sets are also visible for everyone in group. Soo... In terms of toxicity it doesn't really matter if someone says "wow, your dps is ***" or "wow, your dps is only 5k, that's ***".
Logs anonimity feature is kinda useless btw, it shows your class and spec, so unless everyone in group is playing the same class and is anonymous, it's easy to tell who's who.

I don't think 'casual' means what you think it means ...

If you are playing at the top 1% you will be running in an organized group where everyone already knows exactly what gear everyone else in the group is running.

If you don't, you are not as leet as you think ...

    Someone who gets it.

Personally, I think the inspect option would be fine ... as long as the ‘inspected’ players can toggle it on/off in the options.

This is the answer if you’re on PC. The logs are an incredibly useful tool that enable you to view all of your allies’ gear and skills. Here is an example of the summary it gives for each player:

    Oh, i get it now.

You get killed a lot in PvP and you'd like to know what your opponents are wearing because it clearly has to be a gear issue ..

    From my point of view:

Other mmo restrict gear to class or role, so having best in slot just means you have the latest season of raid gear. At that point it's just a gear score because everyone in that race/class is chasing the same gear.

In ESO there isnt that restriction and gear selection is if not the biggest, one of the biggest aspects of a person's build.

So, instead of asking someone what version of gear they have you are asking them to expose their theory crafting.

If anything that makes ESO actually significantly less catered to casuals because you have to think or seek out builds and not simply chase the same exact gear as everyone else.

Stop trying to gearswap before duels against every opponent.

I do not support player inspection in ESO. In my experience, inspection makes a game community more toxic and becomes a tool to be exclusionary towards new or casual players.

Or it just becomes a barrier to game play. I remember in other games it taking longer to complete the pre-raid inspection and pi$$ing contest than it did to actually run the raids. Let's not to that to ESO.

Competitive, end game ESO guilds have conversations and requirements for gearing and loadouts. If you're in one of those groups, your build, and every one else's will be open and transparent. If you're not competing at that level, people's gear just doesn't matter enough to introduce that level of judgement into pugs.

If you want to know about someone’s gear or build, ask them

I don't know, I'm used to that option in other games but never thought of it as a feature that adds much. As long as "so-and-so examines you" doesn't pop every time somebody looks at mine like it used to in FFXI I'm happy. That was really annoying.

I always liked seeing that message in XI, I'd sometimes even give them a min to look then hit a gear swap to show them the rest, if they bit on it I'd even show them a 3rd look. Of course I had a pretty pimped out RDM back then.

I think being able to examine would be a good thing, I think it would be good for newer players or even older players who just copy paste meta builds to be able to see that there's skilled players out there who aren't running the same setups you find on build sites.

I get people not wanting someone to copy paste the build they worked hard to come up with on their own, I don't either, but gear is just a small part of your build here.

There's ways they could have the transparency of examine without showing all. Obviously it wouldn't show CP allocation or skill bars. They could also make it so it doesn't show traits or enchants or even color if they wanted, just the base gear. On top of that it could be opt-in, there could be 3 settings, one would show your actual gear, one would show outfit/costume, one would just be hidden, you set it to which one you want people to see when they examine you.

It would be quite interesting to have more information about the build people used in pvp etc. in the death recap to improve ones own build.
