Night and day difference between this forum and Reddit

Official forums.

1. Are all doom and gloom and the game will be dead in 6 months
2. Seems to be where most pvpers post.

Reddit

1. Seems to be made up a lot more of new players, solo players, and rpers.
2. Seem mostly happy as bugs in rugs over the game.

If ZOS mostly reads Reddit instead of their own official forums it might explain their seeming disconnect with the community. I always used the official forums but recently I have been checking out Reddit as well. If you play any of ZOS other games their official forums are completely dead and all the posting is on Reddit.

So maybe we need to post more on Reddit instead of these forums if ZOS pays no attention to them.

They deserve the praise, it's a great game and I play almost every day. They also deserve the anger, and they deserve it more and more for every day they refuse to address the issues brought up by the community.

The part you are completely missing is that a large portion of players come here specifically because they have a problem with the game and they need a place to vent/address/notify/communicate said problems.

There is actually a ton of good information and helpful posts here, you just need to look past the noise (which has a place here as stated above).

This, I could not convey my sentiment more thoroughly in such a short statement. It is a great game, love it, but it needs to work right and fixes/bugs need to be addressed.

More devoted players bother to make an official forum account and post here.

Also reddit is overall sketchy in how it seems to downvote new topics to push up others. A recent topic on reddit showcasing a bug was down-voted twice almost immediately.

I would, but I kinda hate the reddit format.
One thing here about the forums is that their layout and overall functionality is just excellent.

Totally agree, useless posts like "my sword is glowing" has 1100 upvotes but a actually useful post like "how to improve eso performance" is downvoted into oblivion.

    Yeah, quite.

    I don't like Redidit.

It didn't even let me post two comments, within a few mins of each other, as apparently I had been doing "too much of that" and I had to "try again later".

Um, "too much" of posting comments on a forum?

What else is it there for?

Yeah so great game I had to quit playing today because I took 2s to fire my skills if even at all.

Im not surprised that newbies on reddit are more happy - they simply don't know how smooth was this game in the past, also they don't know where to look at. Experienced players know every single issue with this game because they have knowledge, new players are facinated with new huge world. Wait till they go into PvP or trials and will get kicked because they don't play meta.
"We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available."
    — They always claim they’re “investigating” the causes, but in reality they’re just waiting until the PC EU players go to bed. Once that happens, you can suddenly log in again and they happily mark the issue as Fixed.

That is just another reason to avoid it.

Also, I read a comment on there, recently, that read just like a veiled ad for the game.

Companies need to stop insulting our intelligence, it's embarrassing.

1 and 2 are related. ESO is (increasingly) geared toward the new player experience, at the expense of the vet experience. It takes a while before the shallowness of the polish starts to become apparent.

Yeah, for sure some of the top posts are "this game is sooooo beautiful!" screencaps. Definitely comes off as an ad.

Been playing since second wave closed beta, I still don't view ESO as "shallow". I probably don't count as a veteran player though right?

    There are always outliers ;)

Note that I didn't say ESO was shallow, though. Many of its systems and gameplay loops have a lot of depth to them. I said the game's polish is shallow -- the game is a clunky, unoptimized, bug-ridden, directionless mess, but on the surface it appears more polished than it is.

After dealing with other games I know it's just policy really to keep devs off of forums.

For all the good it does for those of us whom appreciate it there is far more backlash.

I remember one of the last times Wrobel had posted here; it was completely taken out of text and made a meme.

I get it, I just wish they had like a direct link to tweets etc on the banner

Both are great (or bad) in their own way. Depending on how well mods run and cultivate a subreddit keeps a control on the community in combination with the ability to downvote anything negative into oblivion by the community they've grown or a mod to just outright remove it. There are plenty of legit topics that would go nowhere on Reddit b/c of the fanboy reaction, and plenty of trash posts that go straight to the top for the same reason. But similar things happen here in different ways as well. I think devs keep an eye on both places and I think that's the smart thing to do.

Red_Feather didn't just "get close", though, he basically said what is happening.

If someone needs it spelling out that companies can choose to use Reddit's dodgy system to downvote (and thus bury) any criticism, they are going to have a lot more issues in life than just being lied to and exploited by games companies...

I really dont know where the doom and gloom comes tbh, they speak about gamebreaking bugs yet i play daily and encounter none. TBH even in posts complaining about bugs all i see is "there are game breaking bugs how can you not fix them!", yet i never see any list of bugs or examples. Starting to wonder if its not just trolling... My only problem with ESO atm is lack of events. Before i joined i saw posts of people claiming there are loads, yet it is nearly 2 months now with no event at all.

And while you're at it, go tell Epic Games that it was a mistake to close their official Fortnite forums.

I think it's time to stop pretending that this message board is worth keeping open. I'd challenge Pete Hines himself to evaluate it. Given his community forum experience, would he want to moderate this ***? Would he want to sit around removing post garbage from people who probably don't even play the game anymore and maybe never have?

Our moderation crew probably hates this product by now. I don't even know what happened to the Community Reps. I can't think of a single reason, financially or strategically, to keep maintaining official forums.

cheap trolls, complainers, roleplayers, and bloggers get the most attention around here. Tell someone to L2P, complain about how op magsorc is, say how you would like your shoelaces red, or talk about your today's random dungeon. I begin to come less and less to this forum. You help nobody with your cheap answer, don't solve something's op-ness by complaining, generall discussion is not mainly for roleplaying, or about your personal talkings.

useful topics like miscalculations on abilities or champion trees, bugs, op builds, etc, are ignored (maybe willingly? iykwim)
