Bosmer roll passive [Post Racial changes]

I wanted to see what bosmer players think about the roll passive after being able to play on it for a while.

What I have experienced is that having the pen only available for ~5 sec after a 1 sec roll makes it really hard to incorporate into a damage rotation, where if you try to use other short duration buffs timing all of these together is almost near impossible. For instance trying to time together an infused weapon damage enchant on a bow backbar with a dodgeroll takes away roughly 3 sec, leaving you with only a second or two to make use of the buffs. In a pve situation I can't see someone ever roll dodging during a damage rotation to get that pen. In pvp the pen is really only useful on very certain builds that dont have any sort of timing involved (dot/proc).

My take on what would be better would be:
make the pen half of what it is but constant
then leave the speed attached to the dodgeroll

This allows the offensive part to be put into an offensive rotation and not have to be paid for in stam and time wasted rolling, while still allowing the defensive part to be paired with the defensive mechanic. If constant pen is too strong compared to something like weapon damage I wouldn't mind having it be weapon damage or weapon crit. My biggest problem is that an offensive buff is tied to the defensive mechanic forcing the bosmer race to be bottle necked into one singular playstyle as it was before.

Basically it saved me some skill points to be used in an area that could actually be useful

Great in PVP, okay in solo PVE content, almost useless in group PVE content.

(PvP perspective) Honestly, it's rubbish. The only time I'm roll dodging is when I'm on the defensive or escaping, so I only make use of the increased speed. I paired it with Race Against Time and the Steed Mundus to make the fastest little Bosmer on the field. It's fun, but needs a rework for something permanent imo.

Roll-dodge with bow + hunter's eye + steed is something spectacular you basically move at sprint speed but still can use abilities and your stamina regeneration is not blocked.

Its good passive for PVP or any pve bar trials. They did good job stabilizing stamina races, except screwed up orcs so I cant objectively ask for more from bosmer.

For a minute I thought to actively try to roll dodge more and then immediately try to attack someone, but I kept forgetting. I'm not really a dodge roll type player, I'm more of a YOLO player that overextends "occasionally"

So whatever, I don't actively use it lol

I really like it. Good way to add some movement into classes that don’t have it.

I roll dodge into a fight 😏 I’m not gonna complain about some extra penetration as a result

    In pve, well idk..probably useless

well the thing is that the pen is almost wasted in every scenario unless you can buff up and ult within 4 seconds, where on another stam race like an orc you would always have that damage towards your ult combo.

Maybe if the pen just lasted longer, but then at that point why not just separate the defensive buff to go with the defensive mechanic.

Spam light attack on a test dummy until you run out of stamina, record total damage.

Roll (not doing any damage), spam light attack on a test dummy until the remaining 5 seconds of +1500 pen buff fades, roll again (not doing any damage), spam light attack, repeat until out of stamina, record total damage.

    Compare results.

Second test: mash the sprint button until you run out of stamina, note how far you got.

Go back to starting point. Roll, mash the sprint button until the remaining 5 seconds of +10% speed wears off, roll again, repeat until you run out of stamina. Note how far you got.

    Compare results.

What are you gonna do with those three skill points you just saved?

You're thinking about it wrong. Rollerblade is cool, whereas Bosmer are now Paul Blart, Cyrodiil Cop

I ended up race changing my one-year-old Bosmer NB to an Orsimer since I play a brawler DW+S&B build... and it's vastly better. More health, more damage, faster and cheaper sprint to escape, and similar sustain after moving to the Serpent mundus. Only scenario I can see a Wood Elf performing better is on the meta StamNB playstyle: Poison Injection > Roll Dodge > Cloak > Surprise Attack. Even so, I think the extra 258 WD would probably net you the same result, minus the roll dodge.

Well, you forget that bosmer already have in-built Serpent mudnus. So if directly comparing orc to bosmer, it's 1k HP+sprint speed vs hunter's eye. So if you roll-dodge rarely, obviously bosmer will be useless, but if you roll-dodge on cooldown bosmer will be notably better. Though with bosmer you obviously need to use bow to got max of roll-dodge.

Though with bosmer you obviously need to use bow to got max of roll-dodge.

I've done the math a lot, and from my (somewhat basic) understanding, that 1500 pen isn't equal to 258 WD unless you're dealing very large amounts of damage. This is further hampered by it being so easy to hit the normal pen cap that the pen bonus becomes literally worthless.

Even in veteran, it's not hard to get near the pen cap between equipment, group buffs, and debuffs that the bonus penetration isn't very impactful.

Plus, since it's only active when dodge rolling, you can't really count on it during your rotation. The only way to make sure it's always up is to target dodge roll cost reduction so that you don't waste all your stamina trying to keep the buff active. With 50% cost reduction and 7 legendary divine traits, your Y'ffre's Endurance passive takes 5 seconds just to pay off the cost of the roll.

So in reality, it takes on bosmer passive (and some equipment) to make the other bosmer passive "free". We either have a free serpent mundus stone, or some bonus speed/penetration, but not both at the same time. No other race has passives that cancel themselves out like that. And especially not for such an almost imperceptible effect.

Worthless for PvE. Good for PvP if NB (in my case).

Would be better if constant not just on roll dodge.

Useless and they should also revert the increased radius for stealth detection to increased radius for stealth.

Completely insane that one race was stuck with a PvP only racial, and broke established lore to do it.

“I’m sorry for the sneaky Bosmer you have been playing for 5 years. We’ve replaced your stealth bonus with the ability to see hidden mobs. Oh, mobs can’t really be bothered to stealth by the way.”

Someone doesn’t want to admit their mistakes. Swallow your pride and fix it.
